When they're Division or multiplication, you go from left to right.

So in this equation, 48/2(9 + 3) can be represented as 48 / 2 x (9 + 3), brackets first, 48 / 2 x 12. Go from left to right, 24 x 12, 288.

If you wanted to do it your way, the equation should of been
48/(2(9 + 3))
