It's just a suggestion. I used to carry a lighter with me aswell, during winter times, for that exact problem, and it worked for me.

You can either get triggered^tm about it, or just try it yourself, and maybe find out that it makes your life somewhat easier...

They're not tho. There's not really that much that can go wrong with them.

Lighter gas is easily compressed to a liquid, and the cold just makes the pressure inside it even lower, reports of people getting injured because of lighters exploding in their pockets are unheard of, and if you're really scared of them, you can always just leave them by your doorside and not take them outside. Or put them in your backpack, bike bag, if you do.

But, it's just a suggestion and stuff, so don't get angry...

You can't grow up if you keep being scared of even little things like learning how to use a lighter. Added upto that, not only are most things that you'll run into actually quite an achievement to manage to light on fire, even intentionally, but every modern ligher is constructed such that it will shut on it's own, if you don't put a fingernumbing amount of force on the button, so you don't have to worry about dropping it either.


But that's just the way I see it, tho.

^^Press and hold button with thumb to light. Flame will burn as long as you keep the button depressed.


^^Somewhat tricky. No shame if it takes some practice.
Use your thumb to press down on the top of the little wheel with some force, and then let your thumb slip towards the rear, spinning the wheel before striking down the button. Flame will burn as long as you keep it pressed.

Slider does the same on both types. adjusts the size of the flame.
