Besides maybe the fact that a tiny amount of energy goes to the lights and not to the card, but if it's not running on battery it shouldn't matter

No, I can't control the brightness of the screen when the graphics card is having trouble. I don't know why, but it's the only thing that it can be since nothing else is giving an error.
That, or my system is haunted...
