Go for it! It's not like they cost a bunch, or something...

Take the Texas Instruments MSP 430, for example. The development board costs only 15 bucks here, and the microcontrollers themselves are about 2 euros per piece. IIRC, the programming software for your computer is free, too!

AvE made a nice video about those...

I'm probably gonna order some soon aswell, but not really shure wich ones yet.

The arduino board runs on atmega chips wich are cheaper, but I feel like the TI ones are more versatile, and just better quality in general. I should do some research on that, tho...
