I see it as a sign of desperation in a "race to the bottom" economy situation with income inequalities increasing. A lot of countries have done some crazy things hoping to change "luck".

Such funny stuff in the Netherlands, too...

My hometown is building a new sealock soo larger ships can travel the Northernsea channel to Amsterdam. The sealock will have a depth of something like 20+ meters, making it the largest sealock in the world. (or Europe, Idk tbh, not the point)

Funny thing is that the Velsertunnel (the tunnel that runs under the N-sea channel) lies at 17 metres, soo even if the sealock will be twenty meters deep, the ships with that draft would still not be capable of passing to Amsterdam.


And that's leaving out the other "interesting" desicions resulting in billions of dept, and the original construction company having gone bankrupt.

Kinda, yes.

But, even if it's not, there's also a bunch of other very "interesting" things that had happened.

Like some caisson that needed to be sunk down in the down in the channel for the construction of the lock, but because of some faulty caulculations, they only now found out that that wasn't possible. However, the construction of the caisson still had to continue "because it was already payed and couldn't be drawn back" resulting in another few millions in damage.

Funny is how, for some reason, the firm that did the calculations does not have to pay for the cost. The goverment is doing it with tax money.
