There are some cold areas.  I live in Tasmania with is fairly cool much of the year.  The ACT regularly reaches negative temperatures in Celsius (<32 deg F).


But yeah, Summer can get warm!


I'm in the process of learning UK accents.  They are so complex!

I'm actually at the stage now where I can usually tell the basic area and often the county.  West country accents are hard to differentiate.  Except for Cornwall. But Dorset and Devon sound the same to me pretty much.

To be honest, if I was confronted with a guy from Dorset and someone from Devon, I doubt I'll be able to tell them apart as well.

Yeah, a southern accent has a little bit of Westie, Dorset and Devon have more and so are "piratey", Somerset is piratey with a touch of farmer and Cornwall is just full blown farmer.


I know that's not very technical but that's how I label the sounds I hear.


Australia doesn't have much accent variation.  Very dull.
I'm trying to learn US accents too.  That's hard.

I'd say that that is very accurate . Although I am confused as to what my accent is, I've lived all over the south.

I find in practice most regional accents are watered down with either RP or one of the London accents anyway.


It would be interesting to see what I hear in your accent.
I met someone last week, she sounded Brummie with a little Westie on some final syllables esp "-er".  But she was from North London but has been living in New York.


I thought someone sounded like they were from Wisconsin and they were from Norway via Michigan.  They are very close (Wisconsin and Michigan) so I count it as a win.

According to one of my friends I sound like I have a Devon accent, even though I don't think I've lived in Devon yet. If I have, I can't remember it.

I would describe my own accent as standard Strayn (so not Queenslander nor with the South Australian last syllable emphasis on -y suffixes) but not very broad.  However sometimes my bogan roots show, especially if I'm angry.
