Well, it's story time.
Got a call at 4 PM, there's a small fire in the kitchen. Little girl (I'm guessing 8-10) calls 911 but the fire lines were busy so I'm stuck on this call for 2-3 minutes. I ask her for the address, where the fire is, where her parents are, ect., and I before I try to put the call through again I say, "help is on the way, dear."
Right before the call ended on my end, I hear her say, "don't call me dear."
Maybe because it was a slow day, but that call has been in my head. She's probably in her phase where she wants to act "mature" and doesn't appreciate being called "sweetie" or other endearment terms.
But I guess I should be glad. After all, she seemed composed enough in the midst of a house fire to say that to me. A little shaken, but most people are when calling 911.
