Is it common for people to find larger spiders less scary?

I quite commonly freak out over a little spider, but I have no problem in picking up larger ones.

Maybe that's because I watched some youtube vids of a guy who ran a tarantula farm. He had a gigantic goliath and she was tranquil as a snowlake!
