I'm looking at a climate map, but the area you live in has three or four climates according to the Köppen-model. Due to the mountain range the climate types are really thin if you go east-west.

You have a cold semi-arid desert climate east and a warm-summer humid continental climate west, and with a smal slice of oceanic climate in-between. This makes the weather very unpredictable.
