There's many different versions of WOTW.
The first one was a radio show that had just dialogue.
It had most of England running to Dartmoor and evacuating their homes!
The second one had the music and story and the newest one has put in new elements to the music too.

The "original" of which you speak is the Orson Wells Radioplay based on the H G Wells (no relation) novel.


People really did get scared and flee.  It would be like today if Morgan Freeman or Patrick Stewart told us we were being invaded.
