Wanna know how I solved this? Since, logically it's an endless sequence that will always get closer to 2 without actually reaching 2,

Lets call the sum of this sequence X
Now lets double every value in the sequence to make 2X:
2X = 2 + 1 + 1/2 + 1/4 + 1/8 + 1/16 ...

Notice how you get a 2 followed by the very same sequence, thus making this equation:
2X = 2 + X

Now simply divide out the X's to make:
X = 2

Thus the sequence will be equal to 2.

Using this method you can also prove that 0.9999999999999999... (an infinite amount of 9s) is in fact equal to 1.

X = 0,99999....
2X = 1,99999.... (thus 1 + X)
2X = 1 + X
X = 1

And before you comment that 0,999 * 2 = 1,998 and not 1,999:
Where do you put the 8 in the 1,999... because how can you put a a different number at the end of a number that doesn't have an end?
