And no, I refuse to trade them or 'Ah, it's okay to have too many fursonas'.
Sorry, but I am going against that to a degree

But I'll explain why as I too have/had the same issue you're having.
I have:
-Ventus (as you and many others know me by)
-ITO (another dragon creature)
-Suirrel (a squirrel character I used to go by this name on the forums for a while a few years ago)
-Zelt (bunny-alien creature)
-Kakusei (revamped from a character I had named Velcro)
-Sen (wolf character)
I started off from day one realising I wanted to have a character to represent myself on this forum. So I whipped up a quick, hastily drawn picture of Ventus and cropped out the head to use as a forum picture. This was all on day one of me joining this community/forum.
I decided to go with a dragon, it is something I relate to. I've been surrounded by dragons and dinosaurs my whole life (movies, books (my Grandad had a whole book on dinosaurs I was allowed to have), figures I collect, statues, etc.). I've always felt a connection to dragons particularly of the two and I see them as a source of inspiration and imagination. A wolf is a wolf, a rabbit is a rabbit, no matter if you add spikes, wings or whatever to make it different. But a dragon... You can go anywhere with a dragon. Or a Serpent or Wyvern, etc. Mythological lizards and reptiles.
So I decided to go with a furry dragon. I didn't see many around (still don't xD), I thought 'furry forums'... I thought at the time I wanted a dragon but maybe a scaled dragon wouldn't be 'allowed', so besides preferring fur I also chose fur due to the name of the fandom

I intend to keep using Ventus as I can redesign her however way I want her, I realised. (Lately this last year I realised that more than before). I can change the species even if I wanted it to be and she'd still be the same. She is my main and true fursona, as she represents me at its fullest; Loving to create things (drawing), dragons, and the personality!
ITO is a character I created because I wanted a fursuit, something akin to a dragon like Ventus, but not yet commissioning someone to make Ventus. I kind of want to make her myself, and besides, I didn't have a clue how the fursuit-making process would go. I didn't want to have Ventus be screwed up for myself x3
It's why ITO's personality is rather unemotional and bland. He was a placeholder originally. Then later I decided to work out an entire species around him and describe that his species indeed have no emotions (or less than we as humans do).
Suirrel is a fursona I made because I wanted a real animal (with more realistic colouring as well) to be a more... real and... better representation of myself. At the time I was way more busy with coding than drawing, so his skills? Coding, of course ;P
He also represents myself in another way; I was struggling at the time whether I was transgender or not, or simply something else. He is/was me at the time, but I'll never get rid of him.
Zelt was actually my first fursona. My old dA account I was still using at the time has the first drawing of it:
http://odin1379.deviantart.com/art/Bunny-One-Sketch-301457987 You can see the similarities perhaps with my current (new) design:
http://ventus-fall.deviantart.com/art/Creation-556402077 I've always felt connected to rabbits as well, also once again taking in a large portion in my life. I've had several rabbits as pets, all I took care of and loved. I also like what rabbits represent in a variety of cultures as well as how I've seen their variety in personalities when I had them as pets. AND HOW SOFT ;3;
I think as a real animal, rabbits are the ones who I relate to the most. Not squirrels x3
Kakusei was originally Velcro, still having some traits resembling the old character and species design (was a demon-dog, is now a weird owl thing xD), the sole intent was to create a character that was once again me, but meant as a couple-character. If I wanted a drawing together with my partner (whoever that might be), I could use this character. So both of us would design our own character together, making something for both of us that we would like design-wise. So from the start this character was meant to be able to change design, but the core is the same. Some features will never change x3
As for Sen?
Not
really a fursona, but I had gotten a wolf fursuit, I wanted to give it a personality and name, so I (eventually) came up with Sen. Nothing much to it, and if I get rid of the suit I'll most likely make sure the name and art goes with it too.
I do kind of see it as a fursona; I walk in a fursuit and it's a persona I put up when in it. So yeah >3>
SO! Why did I write all this, seems a bit silly to me now as well xD
The point I'm trying to make is: I really was focusing (as you are now) to keep to one fursona. In the end just made more and more. Once I realised it's ok to have more than one, I stopped. Not that I wanted to or not wanted to stop, it just happened.
But as I read, you aren't too happy with any fursona you have currently. So I think perhaps what might be a good idea, is to sit down and relax. Think about what you feel represents you.
As an example: You're from Australia, correct? Do you feel that represents you in some way? If yes, what are animals that you like which are typically from Australia?
Any other animals you feel a connection to or that you like? (mythological or real)
Take your time to write down what you like and don't like (creatures, colours, etc.).
Maybe once you got your 'real' fursona down, maybe then will you not make more and more.
But even if you do, do not worry about it. Most likely your mind will just make more as it likes to be rebellious
