Military dog
« on: August 09, 2010, 11:06:01 PM »
OK so, I was thinking about join the marines. I've always decide that if I ever joined any arm forces that it would be marines. But the thing is, the reason that I thought about join is because I don't know what I want to do with my life. I don't want to be a military dog (no offense) for the rest of my life. I don't want to just use all my ability's to successfully kill some one or bring something down. So I was wondering, how all that works. How do you decide what your job will be, do we all do the same training, and then select what we will be doing (like engineering , scientific stuff) I don't have a problem witht the training. I actually do like like challenges so I'm for that. Some information would be nice, so thanks for your time and such :)

First, you take the ASVAB test to see where you'd be best in. My particular test showed I could take on any job (as per their scores), but my areas of expertise was anywhere mechanically- and electrically-minded.

From there, your scores would actually narrow your field of search down to a few areas which will help you further find a better job for you. Don't just take the recruiter's "job-choice" as he's paid to try to get you into a field that is currently in high-demand, though often those have sign-on bonuses and re-enlistment bonuses.

@ Vosur- what kind of test is that? Is it like a IQ test? or a skills test? or a little of both?
