well, that's a pretty difficult one, but even though you never knew him, I dunno if I would ignore the opportunity to get to know him, if you're interested that is.
If you're asking simply because you don't know if it's a good or bad idea, I'd say it couldn't really hurt to do it :P but, if you're maybe just a bit nervous about giving him a call, then, how about getting your mom to call him and then after she talks to him, you talk to him, maybe make the introduction a little easier.

I bet you're a bit nervous to just call him, so it could be easiest to just get your mom to call and then introduce you to him and such via the phone :P but, yeah, I don't think it's a bad idea to talk to him if you're up for it :3
