Sitting in my Dorm
« on: August 14, 2009, 03:21:24 AM »
So, I just moved in my dorm today. I feel really weird. The fact that I know I am going to have to call this home really unnerves me. The walls are this annoyingly bare, and this... off-white. It's weird. And my tv's broken, and won't pick up all of the cable channels, and the sound is broken. Plus, there's this really gross brown handprint on the ceiling. I don't know, I think I may just be complaining. I guess it is really nice. Considering that every two rooms gets it's own bathroom, so there's no communal showers. Which is good. That would be all gross.

If there's someone who'd like to talk, on yahoo or MSN, I think I'd like to have someone to talk to. Since this is all weird and unnatural to me.

brown handprint on the ceiling...doesn't it constantly bother you to wonder what it is? XD

Make it like home! Plaster the walls with posters, bring your own TV, rearrange the furnitiure, whatever helps. Staring at the off-white walls can make you crazy, don't do it. Wanna talk, just add me on MSN!

new dorms are strange things, but you get used to it. You start to fill it with your personality. You feel more free than you ever did back home. I have a dual loyalty now. One to my home town and one to the town my dorm is in. It's a connection to builds without you noticing.  People react differently to such things. I was generally ok, though a bit lonely. Some people go crazy and eat pringles all day every day instead of proper meals. If you can clean off the handprint, then do it. Get posters, get books, get a computer and make it your world.
"Parents always think kids are wasting their youth, and always have done [so] down through the millennia," says Tom Forsyth of RAD Game Tools. "'That Ug, always holding things. His front paws will develop in funny ways. Why can't he walk on all fours like normal proto-hominids?' And so, whatever the kids spend the most time doing, that's always what parents think is a waste of time, and what is corrupting their lives. It doesn't matter what that is. If all they did was homework, parents would be worrying that their kids aren't becoming well-rounded people. And, in fact, parents do this - enrolling math nerds in karate classes and the like. There is no way to win - parental paranoia ensures that kids are always doing the wrong thing."

Make sure you try introducing yourself to the other people in the dorms around you. Chances are some or many of them are feeling the same way you are, and you might make a new friend or two.
