Fast enough, probably.
And novacaine is what they use at the dentist...they give you a shot (or shots) of it in your gums when pulling teeth and sometimes when they're working on a deep cavity. It doesn't put you asleep, just numbs your mouth (if they do it on one side, half of your mouth is numb, including half your tongue and lips; if on both sides, then all of your mouth is numb).
