My first thought when I read the first couple of pages was, "I have absolulty no clue what this guy is talking about..." But, as I read more and more his point started to slowly present itself. His ideology about the students entering Freshman Composition courses, in my opinion, is correct. The entering freshman have no idea how to write or even comprehend, prose style writing. One reason, as stated by Richard A. Lanham (2007), was, "It cannot be taught as a duty, for you cannot teach as duty what society does not feel a duty." I agree with his statement because America's english standards are declining from what they once were.
