The Shadow of a Species 2
« on: June 23, 2008, 11:01:15 AM »
A continuation of the first which can be found... The Shadow of a Species

Sunshine krept over the canopy of the forest's trees, the rays causing the birds to sing and chirp like a conducter of a ochestra. The morning was cool and breezy, the rustling of the leaves shared a duet with the cawing of colorful birds. The small raptor village had none of the prior nights activity, fires had burned out and the food had been eaten. The playful raptors had given into the call of love and the huts of the village were closed shut for privacy. Pairs of tracks could be seen leading into all the huts as if the tribe consisted of four legged beasts. In one particular hut slept two raptors, one covered in scales the other not. Through the night, though mere aquaintences before, the two formed the beggining of a lifelong bond.
Tezztors eyes awoke to the sight of shut eyes before him. His lips pulled back into a smile as he continued to embrace her. It was the first offical day of his courtship with her and already he felt like she was his. They did not breed but that would be reserved for when they became a fully mated pair. He nuzzled her muzzle with his showing affection and sharing scent. Whenever her scent traveled his would go with it letting all know she was claimed. He sat up and reached for his sash before stepped outside and stretching his hind legs. "It could be storming and the day would be just as glorious" he said softly to himself. As he stretched she came out of the tent behind him.
She stretched her legs and walked up to him, licking him across his muzzle. "Good morning" she said in a soft voice. "How you feeling thiss morning?"
He licked her back and embraced her in his arms "Good morning babe. I'm feeling as if I could conquer ever mountain on the horizon. You every morning for yearss I have emerged from that hut, sniffed the morning air and took in the sights. Now that I've begun courting you everything though the ssame as yesterday has taken a whole new form." He took her hand and they walked along the forest, talking about nothingness and generally acting as new lovebirds do. They came to the clearing where he had hunted the day prior and they both looked at awe at the ship's wreckage the sun glinting off it.
She turned to him, "I've read a lot of the rumors in our anchient text past down by the priestesses of the tribes, but still I hardly know anything about it" she said marveling at its mystery
"Want to go inside it?" Tezztor asked her, his voice full of adventure. "It is not really that dangerouss I've been inside a few times." He grabbed her hand not waiting for a answer and they ran up to the ship together as if they hadn't a care in the world. Acting all brave he offered to scout inside for danger. "Let me check it out first no telling what might be in there." he said hinting at unknown danger.
Not to be thought of as helpless Reirna pushed him aside and made her way in. "You didn't think I was so helpless last night. Keep up if you can" she teased. She could hold her own in any fight, even put Tezztor in his place if she wanted too. They made their way through the metallic corridors, the lights still illuminating the halls as if the residents still traveled them. The ship despite its age was perfectly clean except for a few damaged areas. The air had a thick jungle scent to it, but matched no place nearby. Everything about the ship seemed to be alive and designed to cater its residents despite being made of metal. Even the ground changed its texture to match their prefered surfaces. "This is unbelieveable" she remarked noting.
Though the three large tribes had several weapons stolen from the ship's various armories, no raptor that lived really had any knowledge of the ships wonderous technology. As Reirna made her way down the hall, the walls painted a vibrant vista of the watery marshes of her homeland that quickly faded away as she passed. They repainted to a forest vista to cater to Tezztor's tastes and just as quickly vanished behind him. The ship was just as much functional as it was the day it flew out of the dock for the first time despite the fact it was largely a wreck and could never fly again. Many a raptor has tried to gain access to its files but none have the knowledge to operate to decievingly simple computing systems. No consoles existed, no buttons where at a single spot they explored.
They came to a room marked heavily in the writing of their ancestors, but neither of them had the knowledge to read it. "I wonder what it says" She asked as she made her way to the door. Suddenly the markings changed form to their current language and the door flew open. "Commander's Deck" revealed itself to them as they made their way inside. They both split up, examining all the rooms devices and gadgets, none responding to any of them. Tezztor made his way up behind her and roared causing her to jump a few feet in the air. She promtly turned around and bit him on the arm, his face turning sour at the mercy of her sharp teeth. "Don't do that again" she said angrily not pleased with his joke.
A alarm went off and they both jumped up. The computer's voice alert system hissed a warning as a camera pointed at Reirna. She paniced clinging close to Tezztor as the barrels of automated turrets pointed at her. She may not of known most of the technology but she recognized what those barrels meant. "Baby I will get you out of here" Tezztor reassured her. The computer had seen Reirna's bite as a hostile act and sent a large wave of electricity into her body sending her convulsing to the ground. "Reirna!" he roared panicing not knowing how to help her. Upon the sound of her name the electricity shut off and emergency bots scrambled from hidden compartments to give her aid. "What iss going on" he said sorrowfully as he held her unconscious body close....

Once again a ton of editing had to be done and cutting down the length. But still I hope you enjoyed it. I will write more if I feel anybody is interested and I have the time. I also wanted to keep this to a smaller length to make it more accessible to everybody

I'm gonna add just for any guests who might be reading this, all characters are (c) by me.

Interesting turn of events there. It makes me want to read on...
The farewell was premature. My definite stay is not definite. The constants are variable. The greeting was too late.

Woo, that's an interesting ending there...

Though the question I have is how the ship managed to shock her and not him when they were clinging so close to each other ^^;

Im not exactly on the level of a trekkie when ti comes to explaining why a ship can do what it does, but its a very advanced ship. The most powerful ship of the most powerful species in history. It essentially is a living metal capable of doing such things :P If A controlled charge, maybe the polarities in the metals of the ship can influence the distance direction of the shock.

That would work XP I was just thinking that the shock would travel through her to him, since they were so clingy with each other ^.^

His mother was a dragon, and since dragons are magically resistant, her genes would pass down to him and electric is obviously magical :P He wouldnt be harmed. There thats my terribly scientific solution

Whatever works, and that makes enough sense to me XP Sorry for nitpicking and being too literal here :3

And aside from necroing :P

I dont mind it, really these things need to be caught. When writing it can be easy to oversee such minor details.

Yeah, you have no idea how many times I fixed contradictions in Raven's Hollow with only the stuff I have up at the moment... I just go back and reread it myself and pretend I'm a total onlooker, a casual reader. It works :3
