Hey guys, Isaac here, I've been wondering this question for a while now.
Most of you may not know this, but there's an urban legend of Japanese culture called "The Slit Mouth Woman", this story was to make sure kids get home by their curfew or at night.
The legend about a woman with a large part of scissors or some large, sharp object, who wanders around town at night. If someone ever encountered this woman she would ask the person " am I pretty? " and if you answered no then she would stab you to death with her sharp weapon, if you answer yes then she will take off her mask, revealing a deep cut, carved smile that goes from ear to ear, then she asks if she's pretty again, if you answer no you get killed, if you answer yes, she will carve a smile just like hers into your face.
But if you say "your average" or "your okay" or something like that, she will be distracted and confused for a moment, giving you some time to run or escape.
What I wonder is, why don't you just attack her?
I know, attacking someone with a sharp weapon is pretty stupid, but if you knew how to counter it, then shouldn't you be able to take her down?
I saw a video of a group of Japanese boys encountering the slit mouth woman, and they all just stood there, answering her questions, but there were four of them, four people could easily overpower one woman, even if she does have a weapon, question is, why didn't they just gang up on her?
But the REAL question is, if there's a group of people facing a serial killer or human sized monster in a horror or sci fi movie, why don't they even consider attacking it?
Dead space is an example, the protagonist Isaac Clarke doesn't run from the necromorphs if they get in his way, instead he fights them head on with everything he's got, why can't more people be like him in horror movies?
Yes I know their life's are at risk but nobody even THINKS about attacking them, even if they have advantages, the upper hand, or a weapon, it really boggles me.
