traditional meals?
« on: March 12, 2017, 02:08:34 AM »
I almost went into culinary school years ago, but couldn't afford it. Even with the loans and stuff. ;_;

ANYWAY. I still very, VERY much love cooking. I'm curious, does anyone have any favorite traditional foods? You know, like from their family or culture? Doesn't have to be a cultural thing, could just be something you or your family or friends have kind of always done.

For me, it's either a basic and hearty beef stew, or any number of Polish foods. I'm going to look at jotting down recipes for the Polish stuff ASAP, since I may or may not be moving away in the somewhat near future.

I love love love Kielbasa and pierogi, and we've also made basic homemade kluski. Basic, but good!

Since I live in Texas, we have a lot of variations of Mexican food.

I'm actually cooking chicken tacos at the moment.
It's pretty much sliced chicken breast cooked with seasonings, boiled potatoes and tortillas. The only difference between how my family makes it and the traditional version are the potatoes.

Then there's enchiladas, Mexican casserole and whole bunch of variations on basic Mexican food staples.

Oh, sweet. Chicken tacos sound awesome right now, actually. The potato part sounds awesome too! Now I really want enchiladas, or even tamales. lol Tamales of which, I regrettably know nothing about making from scratch.

A typical Belgian traditional dish?
Well there are 3 dishes who're loved here:
Stoofvlees with Fries
Steak with Fries
Moules-Frites.

Wikipedia pages to explain the dishes:
Stoofvlees:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carbonade_flamande
Moules-Frites:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moules-frites

Oh yeah, small warning: Belgian food is a bit... fattening.
