Remember that, originally, the Christian masses were taught that the Earth was the center of the universe, and everything revolved around it. And considering the ever flowing state of time... Yeah, they did that. But regardless, they used sundials. And those are kinda useless without a sun. BUT GOD KNOWS ALL. TO GOD, INDETERMINATE PASSAGE OF TIME IS MEASURED IN A FRAME WE CAN PROVE A MORTAL MAN ESTABLISHED, AND HE KNOWS. He kept the sun to himself. Good lamp.
