Roleplay Practice - High school setting (Open to all)
« on: May 20, 2015, 08:10:58 PM »
(So this is my first time trying to roleplay and I thought of just having a go at it ;) If anyone wants to jump into this with me and just try it out you're welcome to)

Setting: Large High school in the city
Year: 2015
Roles to consider: Fellow students, Teacher, Sub teacher. (anything else you can think of that would suit)

(I guess Ill keep it vague for the sake of flexibility)

Limber stood outside the entrance of Newman high. The young deer looked nervously at the tall three story building. Its looming brick structure obscured the early morning sun, throwing the concrete schoolyard into deep shadow. He could see a collection of people in the courtyard talking amongst themselves but the half light made it hard to make out exactly what these figures looked like. Limber took a deep breath, letting it out slowly through his mouth. He was nervous, It was, after all, his first day here. And after a long and stressful move from his hometown a few states over, he felt anxious about beginning a new life here in Glendale city.
Steeling himself Limber adjusted his rucksack so it sat more comfortably on his back. He began to walk towards a set of benches that were placed near the edge of the yard. school hadn't begun just yet and there was no where else he could go.

All in all, the atmosphere was sweaty. Students of all ages hung about around the front of the school building. Some of them were quite obviously part of pre-established cliques, and others were identifiable as newer students. Like Charlie.

Charlie stood awkwardly. Never knowing what to do with their hands, Charlie walked slowly forwards through the muck of strangers whilst clutching their shoulder bag for comfort. Charlie liked the bag a lot, they had to admit. It was Paragon merch. Paragon was Charlie's favourite comic book company. The foxdeer's ears perked for the first time since arriving when they noticed the benches at the far end of the yard. With a slightly more brisk walk now, Charlie knew where they were heading.

The benches were tightly packed, the cement around the legs built up unevenly and patched with grass and dirt. But they provided shade, as their placement at the edge of the yard meant they were resting in the shadow of the trees that dotted the lining where the grass met the concrete paths. However, not as many students chose here as a place to rest or meet up with friends. Only a few were lounging on the benches or around them. Most have collected around the middle of the yard.

With a grateful smile, Charlie chose the bench they thought would provide the most privacy, and finally got the chance to sit down the breathe easy.

Heading towards the benches Limber saw most were occupied by students already, a trio of loud foxes were jovially laughing whilst they tried to shove each other off the bench. A couple of otters occupied another bench, deep in conversation.
the furthest bench was occupied by a solitary figure. Limber didn't recognise exactly what species they were, nor could he clearly identify their gender. they looked just about as lost as he felt, so Limber decided to sit on the third and furthest bench.

With a nervous smile Limber sat. Chancing a quick glance he attempted to get a better look at the person who was sitting next to him. They had a pleasant face he noticed, with features similar to a foxes, but the antlers sprouting from their head were definitely from a deer.
His curiosity was aroused. he had never seen anyone who looked like this before. Limber opened his mouth to speak but quickly shut it.

'No Limber,' he thought to himself 'asking them what they are is just rude. It's your first day at a new school, try not to piss anyone off.'
Letting out a sigh Limber resigned himself to stare blankly at the milling students which took up the center of the courtyard.

Charlie was midway through pulling a sketchbook from their bag when they noticed someone was now sitting on the same bench. The compulsion to either scoot to the very edge of the bench or simply just get up and walk away pulsed through their mind, but on second thoughts that might be considered kind of antisocial.

The other occupant of the bench was a full deer, and by the looks of it about the same age as Charlie was. He was surveying the other students with an expression Charlie themself was all too familiar with. Puffing out their cheeks, Charlie looked down at their shoes and swung their legs gently. One of the most interesting things about school was socialising, they supposed. And it would be nice to actually make some kind of acquaintance some time during the year. Buck it.

"So," they asked tentatively. "Have... you been at this school long?"

''So'' they asked tentatively. ''Have... you been at this school long?

Limber, Mildly surprised, turned to look at the Person sharing the bench with him. after throwing a quick look over his shoulder to make sure it wasn't someone else being addressed, he spoke haltingly.

'well... I'm new actually, it's my first day here... you see.''

Limber trailed off and stared sullenly at the bag this person was holding. Limber was never good with eye contact. he decided to try another stab and making conversation.

'My name is Limber by the way, what's yours?'

Immediately Charlie regretted their life. Inwardly, they had a brief moment of cursing themself for asking the stranger such a weird first question. They made a mental note never to "buck it" when it comes to social interaction again.

They then realised their new acquaintance had asked them a question in return, so they hurried to answer it. "Um, my name's Charlie. It's... my first day here too, actually."

Though their anxiety levels were rising beyond comfort levels, as anxiety levels for Charlie were wont to do in situations like this, the foxdeer was fairly determined not to completely botch the whole thing. They decided to try again, "It's more crowded out here than I thought it would be."

The person who shared his bench muttered something under their breath which he couldn't quite pick up. They seemed about as nervous as he did which was comforting. They spoke again, louder this time '

'It's more crowded out here then I thought It would be.''

Limber was too nervous to try to ask for a name again so he let it slide,
'Yeah, its quite crowded... I don't like crowds.'
Limber reflected that that was probably the most unintelligent thing he had said thus far.

"Yeah, it's quite crowded... I don't like crowds."

Charlie half-smiled with their reply, "You and me both. The yard's alright though, my old school didn't even have one."

Limber began to relax, 'this isn't so bad' he thought to himself. he adjusted himself in a more comfortable position and responded.

'your old school didn't have a yard? what school did you come from? I came from a small country school myself, this one is by far the largest I have ever attended'

Limber let out a sigh, he missed his old friends back in his old school, just mentioning his old school was enough to make him feel down.

".... this one is by far the largest I have ever attended," Limber finished off, trailing slightly near the end with a distant look on his face.

Charlie thought about asking what was wrong, but they figured they weren't at that level of friendship yet, so they just decided to answer the other deer's question, "I came from the west, from another city. My school was like, directly next to the street so you just had to walk in from there, so no yard."

Charlie looked at their wrist; a force of habit, because they didn't actually have a watch. They asked Limber, "Hey, do you know when the first classes start?"
