There was a sound near the edge of the cave. At first, Galen was unable to properly guess as to what it was, but even as it grew close enough for his augmented hearing to properly detect it, he still didn't have any idea as to what it was. The first thing he saw was its muzzle, distinctly canine. That was where the resemblances ended. The creature, or rather creatures as he saw soon after, was an anatomical nightmare. The biggest concern, however, was not its appearance, but rather its likely intent. The growling definitely hinted to that. Realizing the limits of his current armaments, Galen's hand flew to his hatchet, bringing it up to strike at the first agressor as soon as it got within a proper impact range. The claws in his empty left hand extended, one from each finger and the thumb.
As they neared, he prepared to participate in his first instance of combat with the wild.
