Sexist Gameshows

It seems like there can never be an original game-show that's fun to watch, especially when they all seem like they're designed to be sexist. Right now I'm watching a show called "Total Blackout" on SyFy, and it is a prime example. I've seen a few episodes, and they all ended the same. There are four teams of two people: Two teams have a guy and a girl, one team has all girls, and one has all guys. What happens? Every single time, the first team to go is the two girls, followed by the two Guy/Girl teams, leaving the two guys as the winner. To make matters worse, the two guys ALWAYS look the same. Generally athletic with short hair, and are generally show-offy. Since these type of characters win almost every single time on almost EVERY SINGLE GAMESHOW, gameshow's have generally become predictable and hard to have fun watching. As well in these gameshows, girls are generally kicked off sooner than later. I know I'm probably thinking of things, but gameshows have not only become sexists ways for guys to show off, but they've generally become no fun to watch. Why do gameshows always have to be this way?

Because it sells, and because that's the kind of people that apply to being in stupid game shows to earn quick cash.

But again, it just makes for an uninteresting and a predictable show. And the sad thing is that Blackout, and other game-shows, actually have interesting premises, but they're all ruined by the same problem: Predictability and sexism.

So what? Honestly, if they aren't fun to watch, don't watch. Watch something else that you find fun.

I agree. The only thing I watch is QI really, and even that is getting a little repetitive.

The reason it sells is because many people like watching it. All they care about is ratings, and thus profit.

But I like gameshows...

There are some gameshows I can watch without having to worry too much about sexism. Survivor has challenges that are normally dominated by guys, but girls win the entire show quite often. Hell's Kitchen was okay, too. And was a nice alternative to Top Chef, which was more predictable in its winners. Face-Off is another good one. It's the shows where guys and girls are evenly matched that are fun. But the ones that are always dominated by guys are predictable.

Well those shows you mention fall more into the "reality show" genre than "game show" genre, so that's why you see that pattern. As for the game shows, I think it's as simple as if you don't like it, don't watch it.

Okay. Why would Hell's Kitchen have less of a pattern, when Top Chef gets rid of 80% of the women competitors first thing? As for Survivor, it's true that males dominate in challenges, but females often outsmart them when it comes to the game.

And one of the worst things about the gameshows is that, earnestly, I WANT to like them. I really do.

Then if you can't just not watch them, it boils down to two things. You can either...

1) Ignore the parts you don't like and try to enjoy them anyway

or...

2) Find a different game show/reality show to watch that suits you more.


It's as simple as that. And this applies to all TV shows.
