In it's most basic form; you are correct. However, a debate is highly structured, and usually has more intelligence behind it; think our PMs over this... This was almost a slanging match. This was an argument due to lack of structure; our PMs are full of points and counter points, all arranged nicely into a useful formation.

That is a simple explanation, but it may help.

I stills saw what we had as a relatively structured debate, it wasn't all over the place, but it was in a single flow. Our PM's however are usually just chunks of information being edited once a day . Either way, I think both of those examples could be considered debating

It was; if you are more lax in what you consider a debate. I need a lot of structure, more than "a single flow", to consider something a debate. Editing once a day is still a debate on a forum like this.

1. Don't repeat arguments already disproven
2. Listen to the other persons arguments
3. Don't make it personal
4. Think concisely and easy to understand

Have that on both sides, and it is a debate; fail to have it on one or both side(s), and it is merely an argument.
