Soviet Russia never was backwards. The "Russian reversal" was a a series of jokes popularized by Ukranian-born painter and comedian Yakov Smirnoff. They were started as an observation on Communist life in the Soviet Union.

this was a ussr solder drinking game that came to the usa
buy vladermear ustova wen he defected to the usa in 1981
the onley way I know this is I played this game  
with him and other's in 1985/87 wen ustova got his us citizenship.
ustova and yakov smirnoff be came grate frends over this game
and the things that thay in comin. thay soon after started a groop
to help uthers from the soviet union defect to the usa.

jest a footnote
a soviet  general blamed this game     < I wish I cood remember his name
for wold war 3 from never happing.
(thay started to beleave the stores)
we all owe this gave a lot
and yes thay still play this game
and we do to, cos its fun

I lost track of ustova in 1998
I hope he is doing well,
he was like a father to me
and I miss his frendship
a grate deal.
