Did you know that human perception happens on a logarithmic scale rather than linear?

The difference in loudness between 5W and 10W of output power on a speaker is perceived as the same as the difference between 10W and 20W or 50W and 100W.

Thus each full volume step is a doubling of the previous in terms of output power.

Which number is right in the middle between 1 and 9? Most of you would say 5. But on a logarithmic scale it's rather 3.

30 = 1
31 = 3
32 = 9
