The National Park would be gardening and forestry type stuff, as it's way too small and dense (classic Netherlands, space is always at a premium), and has to be maintained.
At the KNRM I would actually be trained to go on the boats and help out with rescue missions. But as someone with a technical background and education I could help (or even be employed for) with maintainance of the boats.
So, eventually I'd end up carrying a pager, and any employers or family would know I could get called in at any given moment to go on a boat and potentially do some live-saving work out on the sea, in an epic oversized high-tech speedboat.
(But lots of times it's just sports sailors soiling their pants because their engine won't start anymore)
The dad's in huge favor of the KNRM because he knows people that work there and that it's an amazing community that's also surprisingly influential, meaning that they could help me with stuff (like finding a job) just as much as I'd help them.
