In my experience, big red, buttons usually shut stuff down very, very fast. Fun if the stuff in question is diesel generators and such.

Or they just ring really loud alarms when you press them such that, when you press it, everybody in the engine room simulation class looks like you standing their awkwardly like, "I didn't meant to do that".
