what is a  ref sheet? (im guessing it is short for reference sheet , but i still dont know what that is)

Yes, it's short for reference sheet. A reference sheet is a drawing that displays your character/fursona exactly as they should be. It sets a standard for people trying to draw your character, and sometimes gives other biographical kind of information for your character. It tells people what colors your fursona is, what they look like, where their markings go, gender, age, what clothes they wear, what their personality is like, etc.
