Is the idea of honor outdated?

Though old fashioned in a sense, I personally feel that we should have more respect for ourselves and where we come from. No family is perfect, but we're a part of it. Should the idea of honor be brought back if you think it's gone?

I think family ties are important, even if they're bad. They still make up a part of who you are.


My family is no where near perfect but I still love them, still love my country and I think we need to focus on our roots a little more than our fruit.

Woah. I believe that anyone can make for themselves who they are. I decided I was furry, chose to accept pansexuality, and decided most things of myself. I am not an example of my country or my family.
I am an example if me. So the kind of honor you are looking at, yes. It is dying.
I however, honor myself, and those who earn my honor by doing just a bit more than getting turned on, knocked up, and pushing out a watermelon out of themselves. A family that honors you deserves your honor.
The country isn't doing a ton to honer us. So why does it deserve our honor?

Honour can refer to a high amount of respect or a moral standpoint.
You are honoured by the guest's arrival and it's a matter of honour to present yourself in a sufficient manner.

You may think about honour when you watch those old kung-fu or samurai movies and they don't shut up about honour, but in those it's all about respect in regards to a social standpoint where high ranking members of society are required special privileges and whatnot.
More towards Europe and honour was found in battle and in forging ties with other powerful families.

In the sense, you don't need to seek respect in yourself and your family from others, but rather you should honour others and stay humble towards yourself, your family and your roots and appreciate them for what they are whether good or bad. It's your roots and family that got you to where you are today and as such a little humility can go a very long way.

Honour isn't out of date, it just shouldn't turn into arrogance.
