Help with concealing my furry hobby?
« on: August 29, 2015, 05:40:37 AM »
I joined the furry fandom less than a week ago, and already it's been frustrating. It's just because I'm not wanting any family to know that I'm a furry.  So when I'm drawing or I'm on the forum, and I hear someone coming down the hall, I quickly change tabs so nobody sees. But now they're gettimf pretty suspicious... Does anyone have any idea on how to not lose their trust, but not have them see that I'm a furry? Thanks!  ;)

You are going through the initial acclamation period I think. Don't make a huge scene, and just say you're on some discussion board or something. Art related to the fandom won't be noticed unless you make a huge fuss over hiding it. It's art, if they are interested enough to take a look, then be proud of what you made.

Is your family open to concepts like you being a part of this community?

If you are worried that your parents might find out, what I could suggest is that you could use your phone to access The Furry Forums. This way they wont be able to see what you're doing but if you find yourself using your PC more then just keep doing what you are doing. You may also want to email your friends here so they wont find out.

Every time say that you need some privacy, because you're doing something confidential/you want to keep your secrets a secrets.
For a longer run, they might get suspicious, so better get your hard drives and phone encrypted, like I do, with my flash drives.

Thanks everyone! :) I am using my phone for the forums now, and I think I'll just try to make less of a fuss of hiding it! I don't really need to encrypt anything though, because they're not that great with electronics. Thanks again!

Well its not really anything to hide. If your ashamed then when are you on a forum devoted furries. Its your life if they dont like it then too bad for them.

Concealing your furry hobby is like being afraid of who you are. While I will admit the furry fandom has a bad rep. due to misunderstandings and cringe videos. But if you tell your parents, and family, etc. they will understand the fandom. They're reaction I cannot predict, but I DO know that you shouldn't be afraid to be yourself. I wish you the best of luck.

I gotchu, I gotchu... First, get a passcode for your phone. Second, make it clear to people that lookin at yo phone and getting up in yo business about being a furry is just creeping. Ask them really loudly "Yo, why you creepin up in my shit?!" For good measure

Look, if you want to hide it then do so, but please consider your reasons for it.

Why is it important that x person don't know about it?
Should the reaction of x person matter?
Do you have a good reason to put x persons opinion before your own?

Please consider your reasons. There really shouldn't have to be a 'coming out of the closet' phase within the community.

Thae, heres my advice, dont feel obligated to tell people, its not like youre gling to magically change ur social behaviours now that youre part of this fandom. Just try to keep it on the down low and not bring it up arround your family, and as for telling friends, i only ever told my close friends because i knew that they would accept me no matter what [even though your family will accept you no matter what anyway if they love you] but i get not wanting to explain being a furry to your family so just try to be carful, but come to peace with the fact that you may eventually be found out so have the answers to the awkward/ hard questions if it were to happen

Ps. All of us went through what ur going through at some point, youll  learn to keep your personal life to yourself

Also passwords on electronic devices doesnt hurt lol
