Here's a mathematics game! It's more of a competition and it's pretty simple, essentially all you have to do is give a number between 1 and 1,000,000,000. Simple right!
Ok there is more to this game, it's based on this sequence which essentially goes like this. I get a number, if the number is even I divide it by 2, if the number is odd I multiply it by 3 and add it by 1. I keep doing this to the number until it reaches 1. The person who gives the number that takes the MOST steps to get to 1 wins!
Here's an example
Spoiler for Hidden:
Poster 1 = 16
Steps:
1. 16 / 2 = 8 (16 is even)
2. 8 / 2 = 4 (8 is even)
3. 4 / 2 = 2 (4 is even)
4. 2 / 2 = 1 (2 is even)
Therefore 4 steps
Poster 2 = 17
Steps:
1. 17*3 + 1 = 52 (17 is odd)
2. 52 / 2 = 26 (52 is even)
3. 26 / 2 = 13 (26 is even)
4. 13*3 + 1 = 40 (13 is odd)
5. 40 / 2 = 20 (40 is even)
6. 20 / 2 = 10 (20 is even)
7. 10 / 2 = 5 (10 is even)
8. 5*3 + 1 = 16 (5 is odd)
9. 16 / 2 = 8 (16 is even)
10. 8 / 2 = 4 (8 is even)
11. 4 / 2 = 2 (4 is even)
12. 2 / 2 = 1 (2 is even)
12 steps!
In this case, poster 2 is winning because he guessed a number that required 12 steps, while poster 1 only guessed a number that requires 4 steps (and these numbers only differed by 1!). SO yeah, the aim of the game is to find the number between 1 - 1,000,000,000 that has the most steps (hint: It's not 1,000,000,000). You can either guess, or actually try and find an educated solution. But this has been a problem with mathematicians for years and still remains unsolved, whether a number exists that will never get to 1.
I will keep a high score, whoever gets "number 1" gets my appreciation!
High Score:
1. Twilight Rose: 392 steps
2. Trixsie: 361 steps
3. Bandal: 294 steps
4. Nic: 291 steps
5. MrRazot: 130 steps
(Also don't worry, you don't have to figure out the steps, just post a number here and I'll tell you the steps (either by replying or just updating the high score list))
