"Danger be to those that seek out things they do not understand. Turn away or be lost child." The letter sat on the balcony roof she slept on, crisp and clean compared to the slate around her. Red ink stood out on the white, dark as dried blood and readable only in the moonlight. Her fur bristled.
"Old coot. I know exactly what I'm doing," she said. The moonlight highlighted the old boy's clothes she wore, from newsboy cap to boots. Her white hair was tucked into the hat, and brown eyes shown against the stripes on her face. She yawned and flicked her tail and ears. "Aw well. I'll bed down tonight and start searching tomorrow."
As she lay under the blankets stashed under the eves, a figure watched nearby. The smog in the London air did little to hide the eyes of it. Within a minute, it dashed away.
The year was 1800. The place was London. But the world would soon be Hell.
(I am starting this from a roleplay envisioned by someone else. He hasn't been on the forums since a few posts in, but it seemed neat to start. I hope it's not against the rules to use an abandoned RP.)

Elizabeth looks up when lacy returned from her mission "you deliver the letter child?" Lacy nods and keeps her gaze adverted Lacy:"yes ma'am just like you said." Elizabeth smiles "good you can go back to sleep now. i need to do something. i will return shortly."
Elizabeth stands and draws her tattered hooded cloak around her and draws the hood up. after a while of walking she stops on the outskirts of the city. a nother hooded figure is just barely visible. Elizabeth bows slightly, "the letter has been delivered. do you have any other wishes?"
The hooded figure says nothing for a few min and it makes Elizabeth nervous, but then if finally hisses out, "no there isssss nothing left that you need to accomplisssssssh. await your next sset of ordersss" Elizabeth nods then returns to her small group and rests.

max snuck through a few alleys silently, looking for a place to sleep for the night where the wind wouldn't bother him, soon finding a ladder leading to a small roof-top green house he had found a few weeks before that he liked to stay in. silently as always he climed the ader and sliped in through the door with a broken lock, hiding away in a dark spot he wraped a blanket he had 'borrowed' from a clothes line just down the street around himself tightly.

Morning came slowly, casting grey light on the dirty slush along the streets and off white snow on the roofs. Mailcarriers had aleady started their routes, rolling down the streets next to the milk carriers. Cold winds woke the streets throughout London, brushing snow against windows and under blankets.
Rachel opened her eyes, squinting against the wind and rolling over. She stretched languidly, shivering in the cold air and readjusting her jacket. Another day, another few wallets to swipe. She tucked the blankets back under the eves, adjusting her hat on her head. The letter lay tucked into her bag, forgotten.
She hurried off the roof via escapes and headed into the alleys. She'd find that thing that swiped her dinner. Whatever it was.

Elizabeth smiled as she sipped on her hot tea and watched the others sharing a few hot loaves of freshly baked bread she was able to wring out of the bakers son. he was a nice lad, though he wasn't all too smart.. thought not with his brain. well in the end it served her well. She had three more letters to deliver.. these she would do herself.

Jackal silently followed the odd girl across the rooftops, curious as to why she was running. He rested one hand on the pommel of his sahmshir, in case he needed to use it. What is she looking for? he wondered.

Luke sat in the rain, waiting for the contact with information about his father. Looking out of the alley, he saw Elizabeth walking along, being followed but Jackal (though he doesn't know who they are.) What's going on here? he wonders. Looking around, he gets up and follows Jackal on the opposite roof.

"I need to take care of some things. you guys are free to do as you wish. anything you get while I'm away is yours to keep. so if you want to stock up.. now will be the time to do so. If I'm not back by sundown, move to the safehouse on the east sector the third warehouse building." she looks at all of them. "Is that understood?" All of them nod and reply in unison, "Yes miss, travel well." Elizabeth nods. "Good. i will see you all in time." Elizabeth finishes up her tea and dons her tattered traveling cloak, its faded purple and black velvet, one of the only things left from her home.
(I'm sitting drinking my tea aldrea is the one moving. and its SNOWING not raining. love you all but read thoroughly please... that way to avoid confusion. ^_^ )

Jackal sudden;y halts and glances behind him, hearing something. Not seeing anything, he keeps going... unaware he's being followed...

Luke hides behind a radiator, breathing heavily.
Gotta be more careful, he thinks, then continues to follow Jackal.

Suddenly, Jackal does a total reversal and leaps at Luke, pinning him to a chimney.
"Why are you following me?!"

*Coughs slightly*
"I could ask you the same thing about her!"

"I was curious!" Jackal said. "You don't normally see some random girl running across rooftops!"
Jackal lets Luke go, dropping the wolf to the ground.
"You're welcome to help me follow her."

*growls slightly*
"I prefer to work on my own. In any case, i have some other business to attend to."

Jackal raises one eyebrow.
"Really? Well, maybe I can help you..."

Luke looks shocked...no one's ever offered to help him before...
"Sure, if you're willing to get into some shady stuff."

Jackal cocked his head.
"Will there be villains? Traps?"

Luke smiles slightly at how right Jackal is.
"Villans, definitly. Traps...maybe."
Hops off the roof and moves back down the street to meet contact.

Jackal smiles. "This is going to be fun..."
He follows Luke, pulling his hood over his head.

The contact's come and gone, but he left the dossier. Luke picks it up and searches the contents. Only one piece of paper, with a few words. It's a name, and location of the last man known to have had contact with Luke's father.
"Well, looks like he's here in town..."

Jackal looked over Luke's shoulder.
"Who's in town?"

Rachel slowed to a walk once she got outside the wealthier district, sidestepping trash here and there. Beggers slept here and there in doorways, huddled under rags. Few people from houses passed through this alley. The street rats, her among them, would strip anything valuable from them in a heartbeat.
She smiled as she came to an old bar. The lady that owned it had helped her out on several occations, maybe she'd know where the bugger'd gotten to. She walked to the backdoor, glancing around for anything edible. 'Must not have trown anything out yet...' she thought, shoulders sagging slightly. She knocked timidly on the door.
Within a moment, Ms Smithy opened the door, butcher knife in hand for protection and bear fur bristling. "Yes?"
Rachel tipped her cap to the lady, smiling warmly. "Mornin' Ms Smithy. I was wonderin' if you could tell about somethin'," she said, deepening her voice a hint. Never hurt her to act like a boy. They got more food.
Ms Smithy relaxed and smiled. "Ray, it's been a while. I have a plate of overcooked food for you if you're hungry. It's always nice to see a friendly face my boy," she said.
Rachel bowed. "If you don't mind Ms Smithy. I'ven't had much to eat in a day or two. What I was hopin' for though was a bit of info."
Ms Smithy took something off the counter, wrapped in a cloth. It was cold, but Rachel couldn't care less. "I'll see what I can do."
Rachel pulled something out of her bag and handed it to the old lady. A scarf, retrieved from a rich clothesline. "Your payment first."
"Of course." She tucked it into her apron.
Rachel tucked into a piece of burnt bread. "Little bugger took my dinner yesterday and left a note. Blue eyes, black hair, female. You seen anyone like that?"
Ms Smithy leaned on the doorframe. "That I haven't seen. You thinkin' of trackin' her down?"
"Maybe. I want to make sure she doesn't steal from me again." 'Man this food is good... I need to pay her more.'
"Well, I'll look out for her, but you know the drill. You should be going boy. The ships are coming in soon, and I know you love that silk and sage." She made a shooing motion, driving Rachel into the alley. Rachel waved and started toward the docks, tucking the rest of the food safely in her bag. If the kid was a rat like her, the docks would be the best place to snag goods, second only to the wealthy roads.

Jackal glanced out the window nd spotted the girl.
"Hold on a second...." he said, rushing outside and catching hold of the girl's arm.
"Why are you running all over the place?"

Jackal looked over Luke's shoulder.
"Who's in town?"
"Bear...named Alain...He's a person you go to in order to disappear...And we're gonna pay him a visit."
Tosses folder in a near by hobo fire, then moves to climb nearby building*
He's at an old bar. Down the street in fact.

Rachel whipped around in reflex and swung at him, hitting him square in the chest. It wasn't spectacularly hard, but it was even to need to slow and take a hard breath. She jumped a few feet back. "Who are you, and what does it matter?" She stood ready to fight, hands balled into fists and feet spread. 'Great, another weirdo...'

"Whoa, whoa. We don't want any trouble."
Luke steps in between Rachel and Jackal.

Jackal clutched his chest, scared to death.
"I was only askking you a question! Sheesh!"
He looked at the girl. "It's just... this a dangerous place, even for someone as tough as you obviously are. Trust me, I've lived on these streets my whole fracking life... it's a bitch out here."

Rachel watched him carefully. "I have too. I know this place up and down. I don't know YOU. So, little background on why you want to know?" She didn't relax her stance. It was an effort to keep her voice a bit deeper, but she'd rather not be seen as a girl. They got mugged more.

Elizabeth held the rest of the letters in her cloak and started walking along the streets. Though her hod was down, she did not mind the snow. it was nice and pure. not muddled brown or gray like it soon would be. but a nice white just like her own fur.
Elizabeth walked through the middleclass district waving to the children playing in the snow, and occasionally joining them in throwing a few snowballs. She was on her way down to the docks, she heard that there was going to be a nice shipment arriving today, and wanted to see if she could charm her way into the ships goods. The sailors were normally always looking for someone they thought they could cheat out of a trade.
She heard a bit of a rucks and stood a short distance away observing the situation. one of them was the girl she had a letter delivered to, the other two.. She thought then smiled. those were two of the three she needed to deliver letters to as well.
"Excuse me but what are you doing bothering her? you should be on your way. it doesn't look like she wants anything to do with you."
(boys... try to stick with the original story line please (its fine ur loking for what ever you are.. but somehow have it tye in with the rest of the rp)..... most appreciated and we need to wait for the lizard to post. i hate having to read multiple posts so lets cool down on the posting or try to make it at least 5-7 sentences in length... please.. :( :( :( :( :( :( it would be much appreciated.)

"I WAS JUST CURIOUS, OKAY?!" Jackal yelled. "Stop treating me like some villain!" He rubbed he chest a bit more where the girl had punched him, looking over at the new person. "I was only trying to be helpful! That's all I ever try to do!"

Rachel started backing away. Three against one, or even two on two, were not odds she'd try with her food. The slush was already leaking into her boots too. "Listen, you can be as curious as you want, but I have things to do. If I see you again, maybe I'll tell you. Maybe not. Right now though, no. Good bye," she said. Rude as it was, she couldn't care less. The ships were more important than a squabble.
She carefully backed into an alleyway and hurried up the escape, onto the roof and off toward the docks again.

(man, i go to sleep for 6 hours and three pages happen XD and cif, white, not trying to be a pain but it couldn't hurt you both making your posts longer)
max woke slowly, dispite the warmth of the blanket and greenhouse he was still to cold to do anything in a hurry. slowly but surely he got up and grabed out some clothes he had stashed, a warm coat, shirt, long pants and, his most hated but necicary part, shoes.
"damn this weather, i can't wait till i get out of this frozen hell and find somewhere warm."
he snuck out the same way he came in, his bag hidden under his coat and a large had he had stolen from an american traveler covered his face while he casualy stroled down the ally to return the blanket he had 'borrowed'

"boys. i have something for you." Elizabeth walks up to them both and hands them letters. "you will be able to find me if you truly try. " the letters say the same as what was written on Rachel's. as they look down at the letters Elizabeth starts back toward the docks.
(if you dont remember what the note said go back to look at hers.. it pratically the same thing.)

Jackal looked after the oddly mysterious cat. "Geez," he said. "She reminds me of my mother... you know, before she died..." He looked down at the letter in his hand. "So... we should probably open these." Pulling out his dagger, he carefully opened the letter. "You need help... um... wait, what's your name?"

max quietly climbs through the window of the house, silenty walking past the girl who was still asleep, blacing the blanket on the small chair near her bed and left a flower he'd picked from the greenhouse on top of it in thanks before going to leave. geting to the window before she spoke
"you can keep it if you want, you need it more than i."
"ah, but then i would have no reason to come back and see you."
he smiled softly so that she could just see his face before sliping out the window and heading towards the docks

Elizabeth is headed away at this point and ignores him. she gets down to the dock and sits on a crate a small smile on her face. / mm good ships today... very good./ she looks around, pleased with what she sees she hops down and walks up and down the dock.

Rachel relaxed as she walked, munching on some burnt chicken. It was easy to get down the next escape, landing in the alley. The snow fell around her, inciting shivers as it came down harder. He coat had been a few years old when she'd grabbed it; it was threadbare by now. 'Maybe they'll have some wool on the ships. Or silk.' She smiled at the thought. "Maybe. I love that stuff..."
The docks weren't far from where she was, ships bobbing in the distance. Choppy waters made docking hard, and ice had covered some areas. She glanced down the row. Merchant ships tended to be guarded, but she didn't want to get anything from the poorer traders. It'd just make the wealthy wealthier. Crewman ran up and down the docks, breaking up the ice as they went.
One ship caught Rachel's attention. It was large, as large as a spanish galleon, and painted rich purple and red. The sail looked new, and the wood looked sturdy. It was just coming in for dock, but she couldn't see any flags. 'Must be an out of England crew.'
The other targets were too well guarded, and all of them had seen her before. She'd go after the new prey. Rachel sat on a crate nearby, waiting for it to come into dock. It took several minutes, but it was worth it. The gangplank lowered. At first, no one walked out. Then, a tall lady, dressed as richly as a noble, walked elegantly out with an escort. Rachel adjusted her clothes and walked over. "'Ello. Would you happen to need any assistance?"
The lady, no older than thirty and with the scales of a snake, looked down her nose at Rachel. Rachel felt her blood run cold. Cold blue eyes seemed to drill through her. She smiled wide, pointed teeth showing. "That'd be much appreciated. I'm here looking for my young protegee. You might be able to help us find her." The Lady put an arm around Rachel. She knew snakes were cold blooded, but the touch sent chills through her. Pain erupted in her chest. She walked with the lady, who introduced herself as Tabitha, only because she couldn't leave. She felt cold, numb and yet on fire all at once.
It was ten long minutes before Tabitha and her assistant, Gyrus, released her. "Thank you. You've helped so much child. Perhaps I'll see you again soon." Without another word, they disappeared into the crowd. Rachel swayed and collapsed to her hands and knees, unable to breathe. Unable to think. Unable to do anything but shake and cough.
It was several miutes before her coughing quieted, letting her sit back on her heels. She was gasping deparately still, but at least she could breathe her body was retaining heat. The cold stayed deep within her, but there was heat. 'That's it. I HATE nobles.'

Elizabeth hides as soon as she sees the snake come off the boat. She really did not want to talk with her right now. it was a pain when she decided to come into port without prior waring. Elizabeth winces when she sees her link arms with Rachel.. /poor girl.. shes going to be so cold now./ as soon as the snake walks off with out Rachel, Elizabeth darts out of her hiding place and helps her up.
"I'm sorry about that. come with me...you're freezing... take my cloak." its surprisingly heavy when Elizabeth places it over Rachel. Elizabeth leads Rachel into a dimly lit tavern. "Marci can you give me a hand please...?" a young bar maid hurries over and helps Elizabeth with Rachel.

Rachel shook, looking around. The tavern was similar to others in town, abeit better smelling. A rough hewn bar area sat at the back, with tables and chairs here and there. Few seats were empty, with patrons smoking and drinking happily. She looked back at the girl that'd brought her in there. Her face was cast in thin shadow but for the very edge. 'Pretty. Wonder why she's on the streets.'
Rachel smiled, still shivering. "Thank you. I saw you earlier, when you tried to help. Never caught your name though," she said. She still kept her voice deeper, even though the girl knew her gender. With so many people around, a few that she knew, there was always the chance they'd figure it out in some drunken state and attack her.

"don't worry boy. you'll be fine with me and Marci.. we just need to get you rested.. " Elizabeth and Marci lead Danny into the back. it is a lot warmer. Marci looks at Elizabeth accusingly.
"What are you doing back in here? i told you not to come back." Elizabeth winces.
"I'm sorry OK. SHES back. i did not know that she was going to be docking today. We'll be gone just as soon as ray starts to get her wits about her. Please.. i know i have no right asking this..."
Marci sighs and nods. "that will be it though. i still haven't forgiven you yet."
"thankyou Marci.. i really do appreciate this..."

*max stroled into the tavern, quietly taking a seat at a table and pulling the small amout of money he had out of his pocket, seeing if he had enough for something hot or not. quietly looking around and trying not to draw attention to himself. staying in the dark at the back of the tavern*

Jackal sighed. "Um, you know, I'll just meet up with you later... you seem pretty busy right now." He started walking towards the docks. "Besides, someone's got to keep the peace down there... I'll meet you in the tavern by the fourteenth dock."
LATER...
Jackal quickly pushed open the doors of the tavern and sat down in the back, gently rubbing his left arm. Darn thugs, he thought. Always trying to beat the hell out of everyone... Looking around, he saw that his friend had yet to arrive. He noticed a lace monitor sitting nearby, his hood up.
"Hmm... not a bad idea," Jackal muttered, pulling up his own hood.

Rachel narrowed her eyes. This girl knew too much about her to be a stranger. "How do you know me, how come to keep callin' me a girl, and who's she? Quit avoidin' the questions I ask. I deserve an answer," she said, standing up. She hadn't even gotten the girl's name, and for all she knew, she could be working for the royal army. Anybody could be drafted for sailing duty without a word of warning, and there wasn't a way out without being hunted down for treason.

"I know your a girl because there is no way my teacher would have pulled you aside if you went, i also was charged withhaving someone deliver you your letter and. the lady that pulled you aside wasn't soposto come into port for another week. I don't work for anyone, and..i-i.. " she winces and sounds pained "I live on the streets as well. did i enlighten you enough to satisfy your curiosity?"

"No, but it'll do." Rachel sat down slowly, handing her companion the cloak. "Listen, thank you for your help, but I have a thief to track down. Tell the person that wrote the letter I know what I'm doing." She stood again and turned to walk toward the door.
Before she could take a step, that same cold feeling flared up, stopping her breath for a moment before it died down. She touched her stomach where it resided. 'Must be getting the flu...'

Tabitha smiled, riding in a cart to Elizabeth's hideout, when she sensed the child's presence. 'Perfect. I don't even have to get up.' Her mind reached out to Elizabeth. 'Elizabeth. Meet me at your safe house in five minutes. We have... THINGS to discuss.' She cut the bond quickly, leaning back. "All according to plan..."

Elizabeth shudders as the ice creaps into her mind the sighs as it leaves. "rachel please... you have to stay for a bitlonger .."

*max watches cautiously as strangers walked in and out of the tavern, shaking his head a little seeing one of them pull up their cloak after they walked in, making sure to keep his face hidden under the rim or his hat, (not wearing a cloke or hood) watching with one pale yellow eye through a thin wedge that was left from a knife fight over a year ago*

Jackal looked over at the other man, studying him intently. He was a lace monitor by the looks of it; he had the right shape, and his hands were covered in scales. As he watched the lizard, he noticed that beneath his hat, the man was scanning the tavern, as if looking for someone, with one bright, yellow eye.

"please, it would look odd if we both left at the same time. i'll go first. you dont want to get stopped do you?" elizabeth hopes that reasioning would work. she did not want her to run into Lady Tabitha again.
(-_- cif.shes powerful enough that she knows how to control it.. it would not have effected yu.she did not touch you either.. so just no.. please. your character does not need to feel everything.. -_- )

Rachel shuddered at the cold that started to creep up from her stomach to her chest. "I'll be fine. No one has any reason to stop me." She walked slowly toward the door, tugging her coat closer around her.

(um cif....mind making sure you know what i look like before discribing me? i'm not wearing any visible meapons and my tail is around my waist under my large coat out of sight)
*max noticed the one who had put his cloak up after eantering and watched him closely, his tail wraping around the hilt of a small dagger under his coat and behind his back, ready for if the stranger tried anything. finaly his food and drink arived and he payed quietly, not taking his eyes off the stranger*

As Jackal watched the tavern's door, he felt the other man's gaze upon him, and, looking over at the lizard using his perepheral vision, confirmed that fact. He squirmed uncomfortably, his hand brushing the hilt of his dagger. He wasn't sure of this man's intentions. He managed to sit still as the lizard ate, but eventually the constant staring was a bit too much. He had to find out why the man was staring.
Jackal got up from his seat and walked over to the lizard slowly. "Excuse me, sir, could you please stop staring at me? You're kinda freaking me out."

Elizabeth ducks out the back not wanting to use the front door again. it would draw too much attention to herelf. She had to get to Tabitha befor she did anyhting to her group. she hated them.. but not enough for them to get slaughtered by her. She quickly goes back to the new safe-house and clears her throat by Tabitha.
"Miss.. I got your message..."

i wasn't staring. and with only part of my eye visible you can't even say i was looking in your direction. but if you must know the maiden behind you, when she leans ofer to speak to the man on the next table as she often does her young friend slips a hand into her perse. why don't you be a good little boy and tell her her date is robbing her blind.

Rachel stepped into the street. Manure lay on top of the new snow, horses trotting up and down the walk with carts and carriages. The noon rush to the market had started, servants hurrying for their masters and mistresses and friends while middle and lower class people walked behind. She smiled. The perfect crowd to disappear in.

Jackal looked over to see that the lizard's words were somewhat true... but were, in fact, very misguided, for he knew the couple and actually knew that they were brother and sister. However, he always had a plan. "Thanks," he said. "You can put that knife away now." He motions toward the lizard's back, where he had heard the sound of a blade being drawn earlier, then walked over to the table. "Excuse me, miss," he said, gently moving next to the girl and whispering something to both of them... and then seemingly decking the boy with one punch. A brief fight ensued, ending in the boy pinned to the wall by a knife through his shirt collar. Jackal raised his fist to knock the boy out when his sixth sense kicked in. "Dear jesu..." He unpinned the boy and went to walk out, then turned to the man. "Please make sure he doesn't escape, kind sir," he said. "We don't need him robbing more girls. And if a white wolf-lion comes in... tell him Ill be back soon." With that, he left the tavern, following his senses. There's evil afoot... And I don't just mean that jerk in the tavern...

Luke walks into the tavern, looking for Jackal. He spots a lizard and walks over to him.
"Excuse me, have you met someone named 'Jackal'? I'm looking for him. I followed his scent here, but i lost it...."

if you're looking for the fool that spoiled both my and the lad naied t the wal over there's day he just left, said he'd be back soon but when the boy get's down i would love t be here to see him try. after all, it's not every day you can trick a thug into decking a rich boy for stealing mere treats from his sisters bag. *max smiled under his hat and finished his meal* serves him right for disturbing me. *he walked out leaving the wolf to do as he pleased, vanishing into the crowd*

Jackal, who had lost the odd sense soon after he had left, watched the lizard leave the tavern. "I'm not as gullable as you think, sir," Jackal said to himself, chuckling as he entered the establishment. The boy and his sister were there now... and so was his friend.
"Hello, unnamed individual," he said to the wolf-lion. "How are you, and what did that gullible lizard tell you?"
(I'm sorry... I just get pissed sometimes. and he isn't all-knowing... but I just realized it would be out of character since he's lived in that Furzanian town all his live and knows like everyone.)

Elizabeth waits nerviously for Tabitha to acknowlage her presence and hopes to what ever is out there that she wasn't going to be pissed at her.

(Cif, Kaya's right. You left with no notion of being wrong, and no one told you otherwise. Don't act like you are all knowing. You aren't. I was going to pass the "Feeling", but I'm starting to reconsider. It doesn't hurt to be wrong occasionally Cif. That's what makes a character interesting.)
Tabitha sat at the table placed in the middle, looking around disapprovingly. Groups stood and sat nearby, scarfing what they had gotten. 'Filthy. Absolutely filthy. I swear she has no standards.'
Tabitha looked up at Elizabeth. "I assume you have done what I asked for? I don't like to be delayed."

Rachel slid past people here and there, persuing a tiny girl. She hadn't meant to scare the rugrat. Not much anyway. She just asked her why she'd tried to tuck into Rachel's bag. Rachel sighed. Couldn't say she blamed her from her looks. Even under layers her ribs stuck out. She hurried in a break in the people.
"Hey! I just want to talk to you kid!" she yelled. Fewer people crowded them now, getting to the lower district. Rachel watched her hurry into a large warehouse, not far ahead. She slowed. No need to run in and trip. She walked up to the door, straightening her jacket. The door latched only just, hinges at an odd angle from time. Rachel pulled it open carefully, stepping in and latching it behind her. Wasn't easy, but she managed.
The area she'd walked into opened into a large, cluttered room. Just junk at first glance, but closer inspection revealed little beds here and there. Everything from old, too big laundry to piles of paper formed blankets, getting moderately better further in. A door, thick and heavy stood in the wall. She'd not seen the little girl as she'd walked among the beds, so maybe she'd gotten through here without her seeing.
She opened the door slowly, quietly, and peeked around. Her eyes widened. The snake lady! She was sitting there, seemingly disgusted, and furniture obscured part of her figure, but it was definitely her. The chill in Rachel's gut grew. Her breath quickened. She didn't even know this lady, but she just felt so WRONG. Something... An aura almost. It was just so wrong...
"I assume you have done what I asked for? I don't like to be delayed."

" I.. I still have two more letters to deliver.. You surprised me.. i wasn't expecting y-you until next month....." Elizabeth stood there nervously trying not to look her in the eyes.

"So sir... i never caught your name before, sir," Jackal said as he cared to the boy's bruises. He turned back to him. "Sorry again, Nathan."
The boy smiled "It's cool, man," he said.
Jackal smiled. "Thanks." He turned back to the wolf-lion. "So what's your name?"

*max waked around the allyways for a while, not really looking for anything but just hoping to findsomething interesting to kill some time on. after a while he just settled on a rooftop overlooking some wearhouses where the sun was fairly warm, and quietly watched a girl run into one of them* hmm, don't see that often.

Tabitha shook her head sadly. "Tsk, tsk. Elizabeth, you know I don't like failure." She stood from the table, fangs dropping down.

Elizabeth flinched a bit when Tabitha spoke and reflexivly shied back a few steps. "i-i wasnt aware you were comming this early miss. please... "

"So sir... i never caught your name before, sir," Jackal said as he cared to the boy's bruises. He turned back to him. "Sorry again, Nathan."
The boy smiled "It's cool, man," he said.
Jackal smiled. "Thanks." He turned back to the wolf-lion. "So what's your name?"
"Luke, and yours?"

Jackal got up and walked over. "Real name's Eric, but most people call me Jackal," he said,shaking the wolf-lion's hand. "Pleasure to meet you, Luke."

Tabitha advanced on her, hissing her words. "Does that matter?"
Rachel leaned forward, watching the trainwreck unfold. She was unable to to look away. Not even to her hand that was slipping beneath her. She only noticed when she crashed through the open door.

Suddenly, Jackal's sixth sense kicked in again. "Oh crud," he said, realizing the danger. "Come on, Luke, there's trouble afoot..." With those words, he ran out of the tavern, not checking to see if Luke was following him. He eventually came to a warehouse... and got there just in time to see the girl from earlier fall through the door.
Christ help me, he thought, sneaking forward.

Luke followed Jackal, wondering what was going on.
As they reached the warehouse, he asked, quietly, "What's going on?"

" I-I.. no miss. it doesn't... " Elizabeth fumbles backwords a few more steps then looked to where she herd the sound of someone tumbling through the door. Her fur bristled. No one should know where she was. She whistles shrilly, the signal for her, lackeys for lack of a better word, to clear out to a different location. they all dropped what there were doing and piratically dissolved out of the warehouse. Elizabeth has forgotten about Tabitha and growls in the direction of the same girl from the docks. "What are YOU doing here?!" she snarls stalking foreward.

Jackal looks back at Luke. "Frankly, I have no clue... but I think that girl's in trouble... and that snake..." He shook his head. "She's DEFINITELY bad news."

"Should we do something?"

Jackal watched. "Not yet.... but if things start to look rough, I'm going in there and straightening them out."
His hand tightened on the grip of his shamshir as he watched events unfold inside the warehouse.

Luke chuckled slightly.
"I'd love to see you try. They look like they could kick your tail!"

Jackal looks back at Luke.
"Don't judge a book by its cover. I can hold my own. And besides, you'll be helping me. "

"Well, yeah, but still....."
Luke nudges Jackal in a friendly sort of way.

Jackal looks back. "What?"

"Nothing. They're really going at it, aren't they?"

"Hmm... yeah, so far." He puts a finger to Luke's lips. "Shh. We can't let them know that we're here yet."

*max watched azily as the two from the bar walked into the wearhouse, mere seconds later groups of kids came running out and vanishing into the allys* hmm, looks like this just got more interesting, might even head down for a better look.
*he hoped up laziy and started calmly heading from rooftop to rooftop and headed towards the wearhouse, climbing down and heading into the wearhouse, standing siently behind the two from the bar, listening to them blaber on before moving around them without them noticing and looking into the room that seemed to be the center of attention, making sure to stay out of sight.*

Rachel jumped to her feet and into a defensive stance, adrenaline kicking in for a fight. Her shoulder was sore from the fall, so it hindered her a bit. The cold feeling in the pit of her stomach grew every second, almost bringing her to her knees. She gritted her teeth. 'Not here...'
Tabitha motioned Elizabeth to quiet, smirking and forgetting her anger at her. This was almost too good. She stepped forward, smiling and holding out her hands in an open gesture. "Ah, you're finally here child. I was wondering when I'd see you again."
Rachel took a step back. "What do you want?" The cold continued to grow, faster though. 'She's... She's making it do this...'
Tabitha stepped between Rachel and the door, touching her chest. "Perhaps you can guess. You're smarter than that." Rachel's blood seemed to turn to ice from Tabitha's touch. She could hardly move or breathe, just as on the docks. Tabitha forced Rachel back, closing the door and grinning, fangs already dripping black venom.
Rachel forced her body to step away. She stepped into a wall, Tabitha following. She gritted her teeth. "Get... away." Tabitha just laughed.
"You'll be perfect child." She lifted Rachel's arm to her mouth and bit down. Blood dripped onto the floor, mixed with venom. Rachel tried to scream, yell, hell, even WHIMPER, anything but stand there and do nothing, but nothing came out. Her head swam. Her breath hitched. Her vision spun and blackened. Rachel fell, unconscious within a minute. Tabitha let go of her arm and caught Rachel easily on her arm. She smiled. "Easier than I thought it'd be with this one. Get the bed with straps ready Elizabeth. We have a day of fun ahead."

Elizabeth's fur flattens out when Tabitha motions for her to be quiet. She winces when she sees the all to familiar look of pain cross Rachel's face. She knew what that cool felt like, knew what Tabitha's fangs felt like as well. Tabithas voice snapped her out of her thoughts.
"in a few min. please miss.i want to make sure we're alone if you dont mind."
Elizabeth starts looking around behind crates sniffing the air. 'ah there we are' she thought as she picked up a few forigen sents. 'now to find you.....'

Within a matter of mere seconds, Jackal drew his shamshir, stepped forward a few paces, and pressed its point against the snake's neck. He glared at the reptile intensely, his bright blue eyes burning with an unseen fire. "Hand the girl over, you bitch. You have no right to harm an innocent child." He started to press the tip of his sword deeper into the woman's neck. "I suggest you comply... I have no qualms against slaying such a malicious creature." The cat looked at the girl searching behind the crates briefly, but she was of no worry... at the moment. "Um... you ARE evil, right? Because if you're not, I'd really appreciate it if you didn't kill me... or report me to the... oh, who am I kidding, you're totally evil. Now let the girl go."

Elizabeth snarles and runs towards the innoclent boy threating her employer. She slides the last few feet and knocks the soward away from her and out of the boys hands. "YOU DARE THREATEN HER?!" She snarles and puffs up.

Jackal jumps back, then rolls forward and retrieves his sword. "Well, I'm sorry," he said, sheathing the shamshir, "but this bitch just hurt that girl. I'm pretty sure that justifies my actions." He glared at the snake. "And she desreves threatening, from my perspective." His face lightened. "Well... apparently I've made an error here. I'm very sorry. But... could you please let the girl go and explain exactly what's going on here? Because I still don't see any good reason why she's justified to try to kill an innocent girl."

"We dont have to explain anyhitng to you, oh by the way, i did nto get a chance to give this to you and your friend.." She hands him two of the same letter envlopes. "now be a good little boy and run off and let the women settle this private matter." Elizabeth still looked pissed and still wanted to kill him for even adressing her employer without permission.

*max couldn't help but smile as the cat made a fool of himself. letting his tail slip into the light in front of him* it seams you have a knack for getting yourself into situations where you're not wanted.
*he stepped forward looking up through the gap in his hat, making sure that only part of his eye, hat, coat and his tail were visible, his coat open and lazily resting on his shoulders while hiding his arms and hands.* so, should i show myself out or stay for the show?

Tabitha smirked. "Elizabeth, Gyrus, please bring them with us. They'll be wonderful for the games." She easily tossed Rachel over her shoulder. Rachel's cap fluttered to the ground as Tabitha pushed the sword away and walk to the stairs. Her hair, short for a girl but long for a boy at her shoulders, fluttered over her face. Tabitha disappeared down the stairs as Gyrus stood in front of the doorway.
An imposing sight, Gyrus easily stood above everyone in the room at six foot five. He grinned, head jutted out at an odd angle. His eyes seemed crazed under his disheveled hair. "Oh, chiiiildren. Let's go play a game, shall we?" he said, cocking his head to the side and taking out a gun.

"gyrus.. dnt kill them. we need them alive..." Elizabeth wistles again, loud. it easily echo's outside the building and people, children, start comming back into the building.

hmm, you look like a mild threat. *max mocked towards tabitha, chatching rachel and carerully putting her down and turning tio the brute at the door* you look even milder. i've seen more than enough suposiby solid figures like you that go down through stupidity that i'd say the thick skull over there could take you on. *gesturing towards jackle lazily*

(Serpington, Tabitha tossed Rachel ONTO her shoulder. The usual phasing may be over, but it meant on.)
Tabitha swept into the basement. Dimly lit, and worsening as the sun set, tables with straps and chains sat in rows. Many where stained red. Implements, large, small, old, new, hung on the wall. Each had beenn cleaned thoroughly before being put back, and shone dully.
She tossed Rachel on one of the tables, spiked cuffs waiting. She smiled as she arranged Rachel's limbs and shut the cuffs. Blood oozed over the bonds. "Now to wait for those idiots to be done."
Upstairs, Gyrus laughed. He lashed out at Max, forcing him back to avoid his blows. They aimed at his throat, his chest, his stomach. Only places with vitals.

*max dodged the blows, half mocking gyrus and half acctually trying to not get hit* come on, i've seen trees that hit faster than you. *he jumped back out of the mans reach and smiled, taking off his cloak and hat before softly placing a thin materia bag on top of them and facing gyrus again* guess i'll acctually start to try now.

"Allow me." Moving more quickly than should have been possible, Jackal dove through Gyrus's legs and kicked him in the butt, effectively pushing himself over to the stairs down which the snake had gone. Unsheathing his sword, he tossed it to Max. "Use that!" he said, running down the stairs after the snake. He slitted his eyes, pulling out a saxe knife. "NOBODY is going to hurt that child tonight..." he thought.

*max watches the sword fall uselessly infront of him, not bothering with it other than to lift a foot and lett it slide past* the heck would i want that peice of junk for? *the tip of his tail slid into the long bag and wrapped around something, slowly drawing a 5 and a half foot long japanese grass-cutter, the red handle wraped in thin black lace-like leather, the main body of the blade black while the cutting edge shon a deep blood red* why use a fools dagger when i have a wize mans sword.

Jackal tries to squirm away from the wolf's assault to no avail. thank goodness I decided to wear my mithril shirt today, he thought as he felt the claws thud against the light but strong armor uselessly, still brusing his chest. Balling up his fist, he knocks his hand hard against the side of the wolf's head, then squirms away as the wolf falters slightly. Retrieving his knife, he sheathed it and pulled out a silver-edged mithril dagger, attached it to his gauntlet through the use of a small mithril chain so that he couldn't lose it, and put it in between him and the wolf. "Look," he said. "Apparently I've been mistaken about what's going on here, miss. If you'd like to explain the situation, I'm all ears. However, if we must fight, I am ready."

"if you did not know what was going on why did you go to attack my master. you must think things through before acting on impulse. you dare go to lay a paw on her again i wil make sure you can NEVER put your paws on anything. try reading your letter and talking with Gyrus. i have things to attend to. though if you want to fight. i will end your ehistance despite her wanting all of you alive." Elizabeth dissapears off after Tabitha and the unconcious Rachel.

Jackal shrugged and took out the letter. Using his knife to open it, he found a folded piece of parchment covered in elegant writing. He quickly read it... then widened his eyes. "Crap..." He quickly ran up the stairs, retrieved his shamshir, sheathed his knife, then stepped in between Gyrus and Max, his left hand held up in defense towards Gyrus and the sword in his right, pointed at Max. "Stop... fighting..." he said, out of breath. He shot a look at Max. "And don't... insult... my sword... again."

Gyrus ignored him, lashing out with his knife again, slitting Jackal's shoulder open. He grinned. "You Didn't stay to fight. You will this time."

Below, Tabitha followed Elizabeth into another part of the basement, growling. The mud floor oozed around her boots as they came to a closed door. "I told you to hold them at the stairs Elizabeth. I DO NOT like interruptions." She tossed Rachel onto a large blanket, tieing it around her with twine. The blanket would disquise her from the people still about, even though the sun had set.
"Carry her out. Once we're in the carriage, I want you to tie her wrists and ankles." Tabitha opened the door. Street lights were being lit as they spoke, casting a dull glow on the near empty roads. She surveyed the street with cold eyes. "Damned beggers. They'll be the first when I have what I need."

Elizabeth nods "yes miss, sorry miss." and quickly picks up Rachel and strugles a bit suprised. "i need to get back into pratice..." she mumrers quietly to herself. She walks out after Tabitha and ignores her comment about the beggers. "miss the others, they will come looking. if you dont mind would you please elaborate more as soon as we get into the carriage? you left verry vauge instructions...."

Jackal stopped looking between the pair and lowered his arms, then slowly turned his head to look at his shoulder, then at the wound, then at Gyrus's bloody knife. Finally, he looked at Gyrus... and smiled.
"Well," he said, spinning his sword, "I suppose we'll have to do this the old-fashioned way." Moving quickly, he held his weapon out in front of him in a position from which he could either attack or defend. "Your turn, old chap," he said, smiling once again at Gyrus.

*max looked at jackle for a moment and lowered his sword, walking over and sitting on a box to the side, smiling and watching with his sword sitting un-sheathed on his lap* sorry if it seams a bit rude but i kinda wanna see you take this guy on, or try to as the case may be. but if your going to get your ass handed to you could you try and do it quickly, i have somewhere to be in a little while, and i'd hate to be late.

Jackal just kept smiling and staring at Gyrus, but still heard Max's words. "Sure, sure," he said, flicking one ear. "Although I'd prefer that you'd stick around...I might need a second in this duel." He winced slightly from the pain in his injured shoulder, rolling the joint a few times to make sure he could still move it. Satisfied, he spun his sword in his hand and continued to wait for Gyrus's strike. After the man still hadn't struck, Jackal shrugged. "Alright then," he said. "I'll go first!" Moving quickly, he aimed a sideways slash at Gyrus's head, and the duel began. Jackal timed blows with his sword with blows from his fists and from the silver-adamantine knife until finally, he knocked Gyrus's knife away with a sudden electric blast from his palm. He raised the dagger above his head, sheathing his sword. "It ends here..."

The carriage trotted around the corner, the driver's face shaded from view by a scarf and hat, pulled down to combat the chill wind kicking up. They stepped down and opened the door, jerky in their movements. Tabitha stepped in, lifting her skirts elegantly. She sat on a velvet topped bench, rearanging her coat to lie right. "Hurry up Elizabeth. We don't want to be late."

Gyrus laughed, put his knife away and threw a punch at Jackal, connecting solidly with his cheek. The blow brought stars to Jackal's eyes, knocking him out within a moment. He grinned. "I think I'll take a trophy for my trouble." With that, he pants-ed Jackal, taking his knife and slipping it into his bag.
Gyrus looked up at Max only when he finished. "I believe my lady needs me. Tootallo," he said, walking calmly out the door. Tonight had been fun.

Elizabeth quickly and awkuardly clambers into the carrage. "yess miss sorry about the delay...."

The driver took Rachel from Elizabeth, helping her in. Once Elizabeth had settled herself into the opposite seat, it tossed Rachel beside her. He shut the door, latching it in place, and climbed back into place. The whipped cracked outside the carriage and they were off.
Tabitha relaxed against the wall. "Undo the binds and redo them. We need her restrained well for the next step. I don't want another one I have to catch."

Jackal got back up about ten minutes afterwards. "Well... he was a solid prick. Well, I suppose I'd..." Suddenly, he widened his eyes as he realized that his knife was gone. "Wh... THAT BASTARD!!!" Standing up, he singled out Gyrus's pungent scent and raced in that direction, shaking off the pair of pants he wore over his normal ones. "Alright, that man is going to die," he said. Especially for taking the only thing that I had that belonged to my father...

Jackal looked around for Gyrus once he was out of the building, searching left and right. But the large man was nowhere in sight, nor were the other two characters. Plus, due to the weather, the scent trail had gone cold. He shrugged and went back inside, feeling lightheaded from his shoulder injury. "He's gone," the cat said, sitting down. "As are the others. But we'll find them. Somehow..."
With those final words, he fell to the floor, unconscious and spent.

Tabitha narrowed her eyes, hissing. "Are you implying I am not making a wise decision in keeping an enemy subdued?" The air in the carriage grew cold, sending chills up Elizabeth's spine.

Elizabeth breathes in the cold burning her lungs. "n-no miss. not at ..all.. i-i will try a-again." She is strugling to breathe because of the cold. and goes back to trying to undo the girls bonds. /wake up.. please wake up..../

*max yawned and watched jackal, not saying anything till he passed out* i guess i'll be nice *scooping him up and onto his shoulder after sheathing his sword max caried jackal out.*
*he lightly tapped on the window* jenny, get your father. i'll meet you down stairs.
o...ok.... *she runs deeper into the house, a moment later opening the door with her father*

Jackal groaned in his unconscious state, stirring a bit but not waking up. As he lay there unmoving, he dreamt that he was with his father, the one he never knew. They talked for a while, sharing memories that might have been. Jackal smiled, then frowned again. "I'm sorry, Dad," he said. "I'm sorry that your knife was stolen." The older man patted him on the back, then grasped his shoulder firmly. "You'll find it, my boy... I know you will."
Jackal smiled again. "Thanks, Dad."
Suddenly, his father's grip on his shoulder seemed to tighten, becoming rather painful.
And then he woke up.
"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGHHHH!"
(Aldrea, please fix your post so that the knife is now the sword and so you DON'T pants Jackal. That last part was just immature. Taking the sword was enough.)

*max sat on the other side of the green house, he looked over at jackal on the floor* i think i liked you better when you were asleep, even draging you up here wasn't that bad compared to that noise. *he walked over and sat so he could see jackal better* i recomend you stay there for now, at least for the night. it's already dark out and far to cold for you to go out dressed as you are. the doctors wife said she'd fix up your shirt in the morning.

Jackal sat there panting, with only his sleeveless mithril-enlaced undershirt covering his torso. Looking to the left, he saw that his shoulder had been bandaged. "Wh... where am I?" he asked the man, looking at the lace monitor in a mixture of bewilderment, fear, and confusion. "What happened? And who are you?"

Tabitha hissed, tongue flicking angrily. "Do not disobey me Elizabeth. You know the consequences."
The wagon wheels hurried over the cobblestone, horses' hooves clacking in time with each other. Lights passed by beside them, beggars huddled around fires. Lights were already out in windows as those with homes set in for the night. High above the street, theives did the same, scurrying to their hiding holes and blankets. first, you are in what i call home, you break anything and you can sleep outside. second you got your butt kicked and wounded. then passed out from shock and bloodloss. and third i'm the guy that for unknown reasons bothered to drag you half way across town, get you fixed up and then drag you here up the side of a three story building, you're free to thank me at any point.

Jackal looked up at the man in awe. "Thank you," he said, slowly moving into a sitting position. He sighed. "That man had no honor. To cheat in a battle of blades is an unforgivable crime. ESPECIALLY when, after cheating, the person in question also steals one of the victim's most valued possesions... and attepts to pull their pants down."

Elizabeth goes back to trying to undo danny's bonds and she finally does, the ice feeling has not let up at all as she harshly and tightly re-ties her bonds.

Jackal shook his head. "No thank you, I'm not that hungry. Actually, I ate something earlier. Perhaps in the morning." He gently drew his knees up to his chest and rested his head on them. "Well, to tell you the truth, the knife isn't really that important of a loss. I have many. I just carry it around because... well, because it's something my dad touched... something he used." He looked up at Max. "Usually, I just use my main dagger in combination with my sword."

Tabitha hissed again, dropping the temperature still lower. Rachel groaned and opened her eyes. Tabitha smiled. "Ah, you're awake child. I didn't expect you up yet."
Rachel looked over at her sleepily, wincing as they hit a bump. She felt like there was fire in her veins instead of blood. "Where are we going?" Her breath came in short gasps and her vision wavored. Tabitha tsked.
"You are going back to sleep dear. It seems you've run a fever. Must be alergic to venom." Rachel's eyes closed again, cold forcing her to sleep again.
The carriage sped along the streets for a few minutes more, turning corner after corner. Finally, the horses slowed to stop in front of a large brownstone, windows aglow with candle light and snow heeped on the roof. Gyrus leaned against the door, a stolen horse tied nearby. The driver opened the door, helping Tabitha to the ground. "Get the child Elizabeth. We have business with an old friend."

Jacob had several candles around his table as he looked over his journal. The handwriting was getting harder to read as the entries continued, but he had already gone through more than half the book and absorbed whatever he could from the writing. He knew that at some point in the past, he had discovered something that had driven him to such lengths that the writing held more emotion than information.
Jacob passed a glance at all the tomes and jars that were part of his research rituals, and let out a sigh as the longing for discovery once again took hold of his heart. He wished he could just give up on this search for "Darkness" and go back to gathering knowledge, but some sick sense of nobility insisted that he must first find this "Darkness" that he had written with such disgust for.
He then heard the sound of horses getting close to his home before stopping, prompting him to at least get his blade and be prepared to greet his visitors in whatever fashion is deemed appropriate.

Elizabeth clenched her teeth against the cold and did as she was bidden without question or hesitation. if the others were here they would finally understand why her hands and her skin were always so cold to the touch. Tabitha. 'Tabitha... such a horrid name.. fits perfectly with that nasty she snake. i should never have agreed to this.. i haven't gotten my house back... I'm a lowly errand girl now...' she growls a bit but stops when she notices that she did that out loud.
Elizabeth hopped out of the carage and re rapped Danny in the thin blanket and put her over her shoulder and helped Tabitha out of the carrage.

Tabitha led the way to the door, velvet cloak easily seen in against the snow. Gyrus moved out of the way, moving to the bottom of the stairs. His jester grin might have scared anyone on the street, if they took the time to look past the lankiness of his body. Jackal's sword hung in a loop beside his own knife, strapped to his leg to keep in still. A small leather cord kept it securely in the sheath.
Tabitha rung the bell, the sound chiming through the halls and rooms. "Oh, that boy had best not leave us in the cold. I don't have time for anymore problems."

Jacob hefted his blade up and walked towards the door as the sound of the bell passed through the halls. He looked through the small opening in the door, and swiftly opened the door, and would have likely hit Tabitha if she wasn't already away from the door. "To what pleasure do I owe, to have the scaled temptress Tabitha come to my humble abode?" He put his sword down to the side and gestured inside. "Bring your associates in, but I must insist you keep your jester away from my books. It was hard enough getting any literature in these times, let alone texts of actual significance."

"I know," Jackal said. "I try to use it... you know, live up to my dad's standards... whatever they were. However, I can't use it any better than my other knives or my sword." He pulled out his dagger- a curved affair with a silvery blade and a black handle with a straight, oval-shaped crosspiece and some sort of blue stone in the pommel. He spun it in his hand faster than most could comprehend. "I'm best with any weapon I carry... be it the sword, any of my knives, or my bare hands."

*max openrd the bag and slowly pulled his sheathed swrd out, the handle red with black fabric wraped around it looking like a demented spiders web, the guard more of a 13 pointed shuriken, the sheath a deep, almost back red, the blade inside black with a blood red cutting edge* this is my main weapon. and it's sisters *he retreaved four smaller blades, in their sheathes looking like nothing more than black one and a half foot long lengths of wood, each with a matching blade to the sword* are nothing more than extensions of me when i use them. that is why i can aford to be cocky going into a fight, cos i go in with five extensions of me made from metel from another world, not mere weapons such a you carry.

Jackal stopped spinning his dagger and looked up at Max. "I see," he said. "Well... didn't know we had something in common." He held out his dagger to for Max to see. "This is comprised partly of Stygian iron and mithril, and the blade is made out of a special mixure of mithril and steel that only I know how to create. The stone's main purpose is to keep the blade balanced. And when I made this, I mixed in a few drops of my own blood, to show that it was my own. It accidentally enchanted the blade so that it can never leave my possesion for any longer than five seconds, and only I can use it properly. In the hands of anyone else, it's just a hunk of metal. Even the most accomplished swordsman wouldn't be able to cut through a hot stick of butter with this, much less fight with it. But in my hands, it's like your blades... an extension of myself made of metal. Only in this case, it's almost much more so." He slipped the knife away. "I'm good with the other knives too... but frankly, I work best when I'm using a combination of any of my knives and my sword and my hands and feet and tail and energy pulses." He looked up at Serpington. "I should also mention this... those other knives used to belong to other men... evil men. But it's rather hard for a dead man to own anything postmortem." He sighed. "On second thought, maybe I am a bit hungry..."

Tabitha smiled pleasantly. "Of course Jacob. He will have no problem staying outside, will you Gyrus?" Gyrus grinned.
"Of course my lady. I'll be in the back." Without another word he walked around the building, twirling his knife. Tabitha motioned Elizabeth follow her as she headed in with Jacob.
She adjusted her dress and hung her cloak on the hook as Elizabeth closed the door behind them. "Now then Jacob. I believe I need your assistance."

Elizabeth hurries in doing as she is told and closes the door. she looks around with a slight smile upon her face. she always felt relaxed in homes.

Jacob holstered his blade as he took a few steps into his home. "Oh, so it's more than just nightly companionship." He chuckled, his footsteps silent despite the metal greaves he wore. "Is the nature of the assistance magical, or do you require my strength?" He then turned to Elizabeth. "There is a couch in the room on your left, it sits six to seven people, so you'll have enough room to sleep on it. Also, there is enough heat in this house to not require a blanket."

Elizabeth quickly looks down, and shifts the oddly shaped bundel. "miss where should i put this....?" she hoped she did not get slaped for asking. Tabitha was alredy in a bit of a mood. Elizabeth hated it when she got like this. she could be totally unpredictable.

Tabitha motioned her toward the other room. "Take the child out and put her in a sitting position. We'll be working on her soon." She turned to Jacob again, smiling. "Sadly, we'll have to wait a bit for fun Dear. I need your help with this child. An experiment if you will."

Elizabeth hurries off and finds an old wood chair and sits danny in it then unraps the blanket from around her . "come on get up.... wakey wakey...."

Jacob, despite having no eyebrows, was able to arch his brow noticeably at the notion of an experiment. "An unusual request indeed. Is this an infusion, fusion, or augmentation?" He put a fist under his jaw as he thought a little more. "Testing a new drug, poison... technique? There is much you can experiment with, dear Tabitha."

Jackal nodded. "I know that. My dagger's flaw is that it can't harm women or children... which, by the way, I'm perfectly okay with..." He frowned. "Although that's gonna be a problem if we have to fight that snake... she was CLEARLY a woman." The cat sat in silence for a minute, simply thinking about things, when all of a sudden, he looked up at Max. "Wait... you're a swordsman, right? You could teach me how to use different techniques... to become more effective! I'll even train wit hyou using my father's... oh right..." Jackal shrugged. "Alright, well first I have to get it back... shouldn't be too hard, I can probably just take it from him while he's sleeping... after I find him, that is. But THEN... perhaps you could teach me?"

"Anything you want really. The first is fusion though. I want to know that we can use darkness to control the minds and bodies of others. Of course, torture is a second option if it doesn't work. Test whatever you want on her though." The smile never left her face. "When you finally grow tired of her, I could contribute one of the poisons I carry. Melts the flesh from the bones."

Rachel slowly opened her eyes, head spinning. She felt like she was constantly being pricked and poked and burned. Her shaking only made it worse. "Where am I?"
(Cif, I'd like to remind you that your fight style is hand to hand combat, not sword play. I'd prefer you either changed it and alerted me or used it throughout the roleplay. Daggers can make sense in hand to hand, but it still begs the question why you wouldn't use the form of fighting you wrote down.)

Jacob felt a tightness in his chest when she uttered 'darkness', but remained silent until she finished talking. Then he let out a sigh as he leaned against the wall. He wanted to outright smack her for even trying to use the darkness for such a petty reason, but he also felt excited to wield such a dangerous force. Jacob soon felt all the previous tension leave his mind as a soft chorus sang inside his mind.
"What you ask for is a domination through magic, which would be a modification to the mind. A fusion using darkness is very dangerous for all involved, especially if it's a living body I'm dealing with." He said calmly, then gained a smile of his own as he got off the wall. "I could have provided a dinner theater, but you caught me in the middle of my studies."

Jackal looked down at his boots, cogitating deeply. Then, after ten seconds had passed, he looked up at Max and opened his eyes, a serious look on his face. "And you called me stupid. That's a laugh." He chuckled. "You think your life is tough? I got thrown out on the streets at an early age with no one but myself. I had to adapt quickly to survive. And now I'm talking to you... nine years later." The cat's eyes burned intensely. "You're talking like someone who thinks he knows the streets... WHICH YOU DON'T... and someone who thinks that they're unbeatable... which, let's face it, no one is." He stared out the window. "Besides, I don't even want to use it in battle again. That stuff about wanting to use it in battle was a test for you... which you failed." He looked back at max. "I carry it for a different purpose."

i don't think i'm unbeatable, i just know that i have nothing to lose, and i'll admit, i had a good upbringing till everyone i knew was killed and my entire family's home was burnt to the ground. i don't know these streets like you but i learn what i need to before just running in without knowing anything. and i don't bother trying to teach people why neither respect me not want to put in hard work. you say i failed some test i say you wouldn't survive if i put you to the test. remember to put the fire out when you leave. *he got up and pulled on his coat nd hat, gathering up his swords and walking out of the greenhouse* i thought that you might be a but more tolerable with some gratitude. guess your 'hard life' worked all that out of you.

Tabitha smiled, pushing him back against the wall. "I know sweety. I trust that you could do that and so much more. Pretty please?" She set her hands on either side of his head and pulled him into a kiss. A rush of heat passed through both of them. She broke the kiss. "What do you say big boy?"

Elizabeth snaps her fingers infornt of Danny's face. "gome on. snap too. i want to talk to you before she utterly destroys you. why were you following me and Tabitha darie? this would have been avoided if you would not have come."

Jacob's smile turned into a smirk as he lifted her up and cradled her to where Elizabeth and Danny were, then set her down on a chair before walking over to the experiment's body. "Now what am I fusing to this girl? I don't want to assume that you want me to meld these two together, unless that is what you're planning to see." He glanced towards Elizabeth, then back to Danny as he prepped his mind to wield darkness.

Rachel moved into a more comfortable position, the room spinning around her. She barely heard Elizabeth's question, mumbling something about curiosity as Jacob brought Tabitha in. Tabitha perched daintily on the chair. "I want you to fuse my will and the girl's. I know it's dangerous dear, but if I want to change the leadership of this country, I'll have to do it to them too."
Rachel looked up at Jacob fearfully, towering above her. The chill in her chest expanded throughout her body, causing her to shake. She could hardly move; fighting was far out of the question. Elizabeth had been good with the binds too. Whatever happened now was not of her choice.

Jacob shook his head. "Unnecessary, I'll infuse her mind with your will, using the darkness as a cement." The chorus in his mind grew louder as he started chanting, followed by black tendrils of energy emanating from his body. some of them holding Danny in place while two tendrils passed right through her skull and attached to Danny's mind.
He slowly turned to Tabitha, gathering another set of tendrils that reached out towards Tabitha's chest...

Rachel struggled against the ropes, pain running through her body. She tried to scream. Nothing came out. Tabitha smiled as the tendrils entered her, fusing her own darkness with them to help. Chills ran through her, followed by intense heat. She sighed. "I almost forgot Darkness's pleasure."

Jacob was relieved that he wasn't harming Tabitha with the tendrils, and almost lost focus as the cold and heat washed over him. He then took a fragment of her will, and sent it through his body before it went out through the two tendrils at Danny's head. He then let each tendril fade away as he stopped the chanting.
"Give her a command, and she will follow whether she wants to or not." He let out a sigh, then turned back to Tabitha before clapping his talons together. "So, what would you like for dinner, my love?"

"No wait!" Jackal rushed toward Serpington and wrapped him in a hug. "Look, I'm... I'm sorry, Max. I don't know why I act the way I do, but... I'm not made of stone. I can't do this all by myself." He looked up at the lace monitor with tear-filled eyes. "I... I'm always so alone.... I've never really been able to talk with someone else like this... I don't know anyone well enough. I'm not really all that I seem..." He buried his head in Max's chest. "Please... please don't go. I need you..."

*max stod quietly for a momant, not so mych cos he wanted to but with jackal holding onto him as he was he couldn't get back inside and moving back would likely cause them both to go of the side of the building* you can let go now........*he used his tail to pry jackal's arms from around his back and pushed him back inside before following him in* fine, i'll help you for a little while, just till you get your fathers blade back. after that you leave me alone.
and second.....you hug my like that out in public and i'll put one of my swords in your eye.......

Jackal nodded enthusiastically. "Alright," he said. "But... are you sure that you don't want to stay around afterwards? I don't really think it would be too smart of me to go save that young girl on my own..." He shrugged. "I swear, that snake is evil. I've got to stop her."

and that dim whit who took your blade works for her, you think i'll be sitting back while you have your rematch? and you said it yourself you don't like fighting women.....in the world of reptiles women are as fair game as men. *he smirked a little, and looks over jackal again* if you were a little less arogent i might have reconidered sticking around, but after this i plan on running of with the doctors daughter and sailing to a far off land.

Jackal grinned evilly. "I said I don't like fighting women. I didn't say anything about evil snake women." He chuckled, then stopped and looked over at Max. "Wait... I'm arrogant? Since when?" He thought for a few seconds, a look of confusion on his face. "Um... are you serious? Because if it sounded like I was arrogant, then I'm really sorry about that... I was just trying to sound heroic."

Elizabeth moved closer to danny and poked her shoulder. "Miss.... did.. did you just make an utterly mind controled minion??"

Tabitha motioned him cloe and kissed his cheek. "I would say you, but there are children in the room. Child, go make a large meal of rabbit and all the dressings. And stop crying. It's unbecoming."
Rachel shook on the floor where she'd been crying. At Tabitha's command, she tried to ge to her feet, unable to scream or cry as she wished. The binds on her feet tripped her up, sending her tumbling to the ground. A small cry escaped her as her shoulder thudded painfully on the floor. Tabitha sighed. "Elizabeth, untie her and follow."

"y-yes miss" elizabeth sat on the floor and slipped an aploigic look to danny as she struggled to untie the knots she had tied just an hour before. she finaly get them undone and helps danny up and leads her to the kitchen. "im sorry about all of this. you should have stayed away when you had the chance,,,"

Rachel walked beeside her, shaking with the forced effort not to cry. "Just make it stop... I just want the pain to stop..." Once in the kitchen, she immediately set to work. Dishes and food were set on counters and tables. Rachel took out a knife and started chopping carrots, lleaving the rabbit itself to Elizabeth. She had no idea what to do with it, but maybe Elizabeth did.

Elizabeth begins skinning the rabbit with ease. she hatted doing work like this but it was the reason why she was still alive. she got it prepped while Danny was making the broth and everything else

Jacob melted into the kiss briefly, but the chorus in his mind changed to a different song, helping him to stay his baser impulse as he stood up and waited for the two to leave the room. "I know she may have wronged you, but should we at least not make her suffer while she follows your every command? The gesture would at least help her sanity and show that we are not without some form of... concern."

Rachel bit her lip. "I'm not staying that long, not like this. I'll find help from someone." Her hold on her determination slipped when another jolt of pain passed through her.

The chorus in his mind was momentarily silenced when he questioned why adding pain to her forced dominance would teach her to 'not bite', but the chorus changed tune once again and he grew a smirk as he caressed Tabitha's neck and shoulder. "How much fun do you think we could have before the children finish making dinner?"

"Better than this." Rachel sniffled as she tossed the veggies in the pot. She sighed. 'You'll be here a while Rachel...' She glanced at Elizabeth. "How'd she get you?"

The chorus grew louder, and he felt bliss once again in the arms of his dear Tabitha. He couldn't remember what brought him and Tabitha together, but right now he was thankful to whatever force had helped make this happen...

Elizabeth glares at the knife in the woodwork then walks over to remove it. she does and then sets it back on to the table scoping the rabbit chunks into the pot. "they are going to be a while.. we are going to have a little bit of free time. .."

Jackal climbed on top of a wooden table.
"Let's get this straight. I do whatever I want, when I want. I can survive any weather that comes my way. Heh, I slept through a blizzard with only my socks, not bad huh?." He said beginning to walk along the table and jumped down, when he reached the edge.
"If you were in my shoes you would also say he threw a pretty darn lucky punch. It's going to be a whole new deal next time, I'll tell you. I'm going to give that guy a beating like he never seen." Jackal pretend to throw punches at the air.
"Are my trousers finished, yet?"
Joao walked through freezing cold night looking for a place to stay. He scaned around to make sure no one was in sight as he created a fire ball in his hand to warm himself.

Rachel went back to work, flattening her ears. Plans had started to form, but they'd take time to execute. 'Friends or not, you've done worse. Moment she's gone, start checking entrances.' The scent of rabbit filled the air. Rachel went to work on making an appetiser, running off things she'd seen in Ms Smithy's kitchen. If her prior experience with a knife and stove was anything to go by though, well, she hoped she wouldn't burn them to solid ash.

Elizabeth looked over at Rachel. "one question..... you do know how to cook dont you...? because if its even slightly burnt or over done she throws a fit... such a picky pallet she has..."

Rachel winced. "Vaguely. I've never lived in a proper home, and Ms Smithy prefered I didn't try. If I did any work with her, it was stoking the fire and cleaning." She carefully cut the chicken up for soup, carrots, celery, onions, and garlic set nearby for their turn.

"ah.. would you rather do that here.... because those flavors will not mix correctly if you add them at the wrong times and ammounts.... the dry garlic would be better in the soup... unless you want to overpower the carrots and potatoes and celery....." Rachel nodded, setting the knife down. "I'd rather not burn it to ash." She walked over to the wood pile, just inside the door. It was nearly as tall as she was. She grabbed an armload of the split pieces and walked back over to the iron stove. Embers flew up as she tossed them in and closed the door. She grabbed the broom a moment later. "I wonder how Ms Smithy is doing."

Rachel contiued to clean the floors, bucket nearby and scrub brush in hand. She'd tried once before to leave. Pain had made it impossible to breathe, let alone walk. Now, she worked with a zoned-out expression. Had she not been forced to work as a slave, she may have enjoyed the work, without Tabitha looming in another room of course. "Is the soup and rabbit done? Smells it."

Secondly, I'd suggest fixing your post a bit, Joao, because I'm pretty sure that, no matter what kind of street rat Jackal is, he'd be smart enough to know that if you have a cut with stitches in it, you've gotta see a doctor. Also... um... you're... you're not really playing the right sort of "tough" right now... it's kind of coming off like EVIL tough guy who's cocky, not nice tough guy with a soft side, which is the kind of guy Jackal is. money's not a problem, he owes me a favour or two......he doesn't like it, but him and his wife owe me a few more saves. i saved him and his dughter from some thugs, delt with the thugs a bit more permanatlythan he thought i would and his daughter took more of a liking to me than he would be willing to put up with if he found out. so be thankfull, if not for me you mightbegetting some second rate medical butchery by some guy that thinks he knows what he's doing and is in it for a quick buck. this doctor normally does house calls to the first class citizens, and charges more than either of us could afford.

"Unless you're leaving right after dinner, it doesn't have to stop here." he suggested with a smirk as he slipped on the clothes and chainmail that he wore under his armor. "Plus, the doctor suggested that I spend some days away from those books." He stood up and slowly walked towards his dining room while Tabitha cleaned up.

Jackal waiting for Max to leave before he rolled his eyes. "It's not like I can't handle it myself." He said quietly to himself. Jackal climbed out of the window and skillfully reached the roof. He spotted Max waiting for him. "I'm up here." he shouted down while waving his paw. He began to parkour to each roof top along the way to the park. As he jumped the blanket around him looked more like a superman cape. Jackal landed in a bare tree when he reached his destination. He fix the blanket so it wrapped around him better and waited for Max to catch up. He looked at the park covered in snow. The trees were side by side creating a border for the park itself. The cobblestone path lead a pathway to each exit. The candle filled lamps lighted the area around.

Rachel glared at Elizabeth. "I'll screw up. It's not like I'm one of you nobles. I'm lucky to be taught how to read. Etiquette is last on the list." She set the plates and bowls down, placing the pot holders in the middle. A pretty lace table cloth decorated the oak table, an angle statuette in the middle. Glass doored cabinets surrounded the room, sand wallpaper in-between. An area rug and bronze chandelier completed the look. Rachel sighed. "This is the fanciest house I've ever been in."

Jacob walked over to his table, and was rather surprised that it was set, but he was even more surprised that Rachel hadn't gone mad from the pain. Sure it wasn't that much compared to the ones caused by his own magical mishaps, but it wasn't just a major headache either. "So has Elizabeth received any formal training in cooking, or did you just whip her when it didn't meet your self-established standards?"

Tabitha chuckled. "Oh, a bit of both. It's not hard to get Gyrus to play nasty when I want him to." She sat in one of the chairs, setting her napkin on her lap. "Elizabeth, you may have the usual bread and milk. Under the child learns to stop fighting, she will starve. And do tell those rats at the door to stop begging. It's unbecoming."
Rachel stood by as a servant throughout the meal by Tabitha's orders. Her mind, however, was not on her work. Since they'd served, she'd been formulating plans to get out. Few had any sense to them, but it never hurt to plan (Used to anyway).

Jacob hid some of his portions, thankful that the chorus wasn't in his head, but not sure why such a thing was worth his gratitude. He simply wasn't sure how long ago she got a meal of her own, and wanted to be sure of how long she went without food. "Tabitha, the Darkness tends to alter more than just the original target area. In future punishments, please take into account that the next time she wakes up, her body may require food just to survive the change necessary to be a better servant. I used to be a scrawny whelp who could not carry more than three tomes, now the sword you see me carry is very light in my hands."

Jackal snapped out of his daydream.
"I'm coming, I'm coming!" He called as he jumped out of the tree and speed walked to meet up with Max. Jackal places his paws behind his head. "I had plenty of time to rest when I waited for you." Jackal looked away when he didn't expected himself saying something rudely.
"...Sorry that I left you back there. Leaving others is kinda a bad habit of mine." He grinned. Jackal also notices someone lying on the bench. He stopped in front of Joao and tilted his head sideways. "Hey, are you alright?" Jackal reached for him.
Joao jolted awake.
"Who's there?" he said followed by a cough.
Jackal stepped back and looks at Max concerned. Joao continues to cough, when he stops he looks at both of them.

Tabitha smiled. "Oh, dear. You're so cute when you care. She's a minor street rat though. Hardly a thing to care about. As soon as she's served her purpose, I'll drop her off a cliff or something. Something fun. Maybe even show you how my venom works." She dipped her spoon in the soup again.
Rachel had taken to dusting the dishes in the cupboards as she waited, one ear swiveled their way. They flattened momentarily at Tabitha's words, but she said nothing.

"Miss, my i inquire when we shall be leaving, so i can get everyting ready?" Elizabeth glances around a bit annoyed and tired. she wanted to go to sleep. the good thing when Tabitha wasnt around was she could do things on her time. she hated being thrown off of her rutine. she was supposed to have been asleep at least a half an hour ago.

Jacob shook his head as Tabitha downplayed the significance. "Since you have come by for my assistance, I might as well forewarn you of the future that this 'minor street rat' now has due to her fusion with Darkness. While I may not know how this energy arrived to this world, I do know that it thrives by coercing its "children" to work together to spread its influence. Soon your will won't be necessary for her cooperation, as she will start to see us as siblings rather than strangers."
He put his bowl to the side to show his unfinished portions, and gestured to Rachel. "I find it better to get used to the transition rather than fight it at every step. So Rachel, I know you have yet to tell me your name, but you may come over and have my scraps..."

Rachel turned, surprised, and edged closer. She stopped and took a step back in pain as Tabitha's orders forced her otherwise. "I still have to deal with her orders. Thank you though."
Tabitha went back to sipping her soup. "Elizabeth, make sure the chores are done first. Then you may leave. As for you child, when you learn, you will eat. Sorry dear Jacob, but I would rather she follows through."

"Huh? You can't just leave without-" He was interrupted when Joao collapsed upon him.
"Hey! Get off of me! I will not be used as a pillow." Jackal said as he began to drag Joao along the path. He saw Max stop in his tracks.

"yes ma'am." Elizabeth walks off and upstairs to the small bedroom. she knew full well she was going to get hell for this but she was exausted. she fell onto the bed and slept.

Jacob nodded, then got out of his chair and walked over to Tabitha. He whispered into her ear to make sure that Rachel didn't get any ideas of what he would say. "Just make sure she doesn't die. The darkness that binds us together has a purpose for her." He then went silent for a few seconds while thinking something over. "So do I have permission to travel with you during my week of "relaxation"?"

Tabitha seemed intrigued, but decided to save the conversation. "Of course dear. It'd be lovely to have another on the journey." She dabbed at her mouth, finished with her meal, and motioned Rachel toward her. "Clean the table and dishes. I want them spotless." Rachel sighed and did as she said, tired from the long day. She carefully stacked them in her arms, careful not to let them topple.

"Shall we continue this conversation upstairs... before we get back to our fornication?" Jacob asked, leaning against the dining room wall with a smirk on his face. He waited for Rachel to look up, and mouthed "Eat when you're done, she won't care" then yawned. "Does the Jester or Elizabeth harbor the Darkness, or is it just you?"

Rachel smiled at him in thanks, heading to the kitchen with the dishes. Jacob's scraps sat on top, and it was only seconds before they'd been scarfed down.
She started quickly on washing the dishes, running through where she'd go for help once out.

Jacob heard the chorus return in full force as he followed her up the stairs. Once Rachel was alone, she could see a flickering light come from the room she was 'experimented' in. There were no whispers or maddening voices, just a warm wave coming from the source of the light.

Rachel finished quickly, hurrying out the door. Snow was beginning to fall again, making her shiver. Wind whipped her hair about her face as she ran down the street. "There has to be someone I can ask for help."
Lights had gone dark in the windows of most houses. Street lights eluminated the walk, guiding her forward to where ever she dared venture. Rachel slowed to a jog, looking around. The area was unfamiliar to her. Too rich. She groaned. 'The docks have to be here somewhere...'

As she continues down the street, she can make out someone with a book in hand. When she could get a better look, the figure stops and closes the book. He is a navy-blue dragon dressed as a scholarly wizard, complete with reading glasses on the end of his snout and a chain linking his book to his robes. "Your clothes tell me that you not only are too poor to have a home in this district, but that you're the type for outside work. Would you like directions, or maybe somewhere to stay for the night?"

Rachel smiled and stepped toward him. "Directions please. I need to find the docks. I know someone I need help from." Without her cap, it was more than clear she was female, even disguising her voice. Her hair fell in curls around her face, highlighting the brown of her eyes.

The dragon chuckled warmly, letting the book drop and hang from the chain. "The docks are not the best place for women like yourself... so would you mind if I accompany you? Before you ask, I have no intention leading you to a trap, and the paths we will take will have plenty of open space for you to flee in case you feel too scared."

Rachel paused, uncertain. She didn't like strangers, and she hated the dirogatory comment toward her gender enough to want to punch him. But if he was giving directions, she might as well. Besides. She knew how to get to the roofs if she had to. "Fine. But if you dare say that about my being a woman again, I'll knock your lights out. Got it?"

He nodded, and had gained a smirk. "It still does not change that most women often meet a more jarring experience for 'losing' than most males at your age. Instead of a mugging, you might also lose your maidenhood to any that might not have enough to afford a prostitute." He lead the way towards the docks, whistling a drinking song and occasionally swaying his hips and stepping in rhythm.

Rachel looked away. "I need to find my damned cap. It's safer, and warmer, that way." She tugged at her coat as she followed him, sleet soaking into her shoes. She yawned. 'Hopefully I can grab my blankets. Tonight's gonn' be cold.'

The dragon stopped his humming and stood still as he tilted his head. He then held his left hand out in a cupping motion before breathing out fire and letting it gather over his hand. When it got large enough, the fire gained butterfly wings and floated next to Rachel. Its proximity seemed to melt away the snow and sleet while keeping her from getting too hot.
"I know we have yet to exchange names, but I feel that you're not going to last long on your own... especially with that mental handicap you've got going on."

Though thankful for the heat, she reached out and smacked him, leaving a large red welt. "Funny considering you're walking with a theif. I can tell I'm not welcome. Thank you for the bit of help, and good riddence." She hurried to an escape, quickly climbing to the roof. On the way up, she snatched a cap from a clothing line and situating it on her. She tucked her hair in quickly and resumed her modified voice. "Might want to get home 'fore we catch you."

The dragon got on all fours, his 'direction' aimed at Rachel. If she could read mouths, Rachel could see 'By the grace of Wind, grant my limbs flight!' before the dragon literally leaped over her and landing on the same roof in the matter of an instant. His voice took on the tone of an instructor warning his apprentice.
"Your mind is affected by energies you are too ignorant to control or resist. I never meant to insult or belittle, "young lad", but a thief has no defense against the power nested inside your skull. Eventually the person you are bound to, will call for you, regardless of you hearing the voice."

Rachel narrowed her eyes, far more on edge than before. "How do you know of that? I just met you, and I've told said nothing of THAT." She shivered involuntarily in the falling snow. If she fought him, she'd lose. No doubt to that. If she ran, he'd catch her. Her breath quickened. It'd have to work to the best. Rachel had no intention of falling at his hands.

The fire butterfly returned with a twirl of his wrist as he smiled at her. "I have been exposed to so much magic, I can see and smell it. Yours forms around your skull like a collar, and if I concentrate hard enough it is possible for me to see who it is linked to. Of course, for the sake of privacy, I will not read who has you around their finger..."

Elizabeth grumbled and slid out of bed the humming in her brain was starting to piss her off. that only used to happen when Tabitha was in a bit of a scrape.. she knew it wasnt her. she threw on her things and slipped out following the buzzing. "Rachel? sweety? where did you go?! " she started expanding her mind searching for the other humming black energy. there was something blocking her... some softer energy. oozing with a comforting glow. she growled, it made her remember what it was like in her house...reminded her of her mothers air she carried around her. She took off towaRds that direction. she slid to a stop in the street next to a building. there were two figures on the roof.
"Ray? lad are you up there? the Misses is looking for you."

The dragon looked down at the girl calling out for 'Ray', and smirked. "I can see her imprint as well..." He then turned to Rachel and gave her a pat on the back. "You got three options: Go to the girl, and likely back to whoever bound you. Or you could reject the cards fate has dealt you and die to spare yourself the coming madness. Then there is myself, who not only understands the magic holding your mind, but can ward away the darkness it brings. Of course you could go with her and I would still watch over you... but it is not my place to decide your fate."

Elizabeth growled slightly under her breath before looking back up and smiling.* "sir.. please.. with you let the lad come back down.. we really need to get back to the house before the misses gives both of us a thrashing..."

*max carried the stranger to the docters, making sure jackal keps up. we get there and i quickly talk to the doctor, getting the stranger looked at while i wait outside, jackal with the doctors wife while she tends to his stitches*

Rachel took a step back, mulling the options over. The second option was out of the question. She would find a way to survive, maybe thrive, regardless of the circumstances. She had to. But going back or joining this stranger were not particularly fun options either. "How do I know if you are any better?"

The dragon chuckled, shrugging his shoulders before looking back down again. "I'm going to say you're more clever than I give credit for, and admit that anything I do right now does not prove that I can be better than whoever put you in this situation to begin with. What I am saying, is that regardless of whether you go back or keep moving, I'll be at your side." He then walked towards the other roof and stopped as he reached the end of this roof. "If we stick to the roofs, most of the riff-raff won't even see us passing by on our way to the docks."

Elizabeth scales the side of the building with some difficulty but it can be seen she has has at least some pratice doing so. "Ray.. please.. we..we should be getting back...." She glances over her shoulder towards the house. "you can go off on your own as soon as she leaves port again.. "

Jacob and Tabitha were cuddling each other in bed, sharing the soothing calm between fits of passion. Jacob however, did not wish to simply let the moment take its' course, and decided to speak up. "Tabitha, I've been doing some planning on gathering more "family". I originally intended to go by myself, but since you arrived, I've realized that with your will bolstering my magic... we could bring in an army in a matter of weeks, maybe even days!" He noticed her looking out the door with some annoyance, as if she knew someone left the house.
"For someone so demanding of those she considered 'lesser', you have quite the attachment to those two..." he teased, not knowing if she even heard him or not.
"Well, she can't kill you from this distance." The dragon casually interjected. "Though she has a connection to one of you, she lacks the practiced magical sense to divine your exact location. If she wanted to kill you, she would need enough power to level this entire block in order to make sure that she actually hit you. Even better, the farther away you are... the harder it is to locate you."

Tabitha snorted. "I have no attachment to those two. They are nothing but servants. As for more family, we should still stagger it. I don't like having too many to watch at once." She stetched. "Now, what to do with you?"

He gave a slight shrug. "I can go as long as you want me to... likely even further."

elizabeth sighed and started back t the house. if rachel got eaten.. well it was her fault. might as well go get tabitha... she did not want to be blamed for this...

Jacob smirked. "I can understand if you're talking about Miss Elizabeth... but Rachel is a different story. But I'll leave the subject alone until we're far enough away from the house..." He said as she stretched.
'Now, what to do with you?'
He gave a slight shrug. "I can go as long as you want me to... likely even further."

Tabitha flipped him on his back. "I have no attachment to either. It would be of no consequence to me to dispose of both." She setted her rump on his stomach. "As soon as the three of us have no use for them, they'll be just two more bodies in the gutter."

Jacob didn't feel like pressing the issue, knowing that eventually Tabitha will treat Rachel as at least an annoying little sister rather than a lowly slave. However, that statement did warrant some further teasing. "So with all the magical knowledge I possess, I was only asked to make an obedient and expendable servant. Are you underestimating my magical ability, or were you just using her as a reason to visit me?" His hands traveled down her sides and stopped at her bottom.
"You already know my name, you've just been too angry at me to let it be said. Once you've said my name, I'll have no need to stalk you..." The dragon just stood there with his hands behind his back, and his grin would almost seem smug if his tone wasn't so calm and familiar.

Elizabeth timmidly tapped on the door. "um... e-excuse me... miss tabitha... Rachel.. well rachel got out and is conversing with a nother dragon.... i.. i cant get her to come back inside..." elizabeth winced after stating this and backed a good distance from the door fearing something would be hurrled at her for intrupting.

*max got up, tired of waitig i te cold and started to walk, ot knowig or really carig where he was going, finding himself running across the rooftops and jumping between buildings as if he was home. after about an hour he was panting and out of breath, he looked around him to see if he could place himself in the city, instead spotting others on a roof a few blocks away. one, a youger girl by the looks of her, looked fimilure but he couldn't be sure at this distance.
after stopping to catch his breath max started to slowly creep closer, making sure to stay hidden while keeping an eye of the girl ad the dragon

Tabitha smirked, pinning his arms down. "A little of both. What fun would one be over the other?" When Elizabeth came to the door, Tabitha growled. "Use a net if you have to. Knock her out. I don't want her out though."

Jacob put on a mask of surprise when she pinned his arms back, then it turned to confusion when she finished speaking to Elizabeth. "So how exactly is this position fun for either of us? Sure you might be getting you kicks in thinking you've pinned me down..." His arms pressed back against her pinning, and a smirk of his own appeared when Tabitha fell on her back while trying to keep his grasping claws at bay. "But I can easily break any hold you have over me, my love..."
The dragon shrugged his shoulders once again, but not sure if it was for 'I don't know' or 'I don't care'. "I hate to incur the wrath of the one I'm guarding, but you're being a little unrealistic expecting words from a stranger to be a reason for trust. All I want is a chance to prove that I can be trusted, and that means I get to travel with you, and be the helping hand that you need when your skills as a thief are no longer enough."

Jacob looked rather confused in the direction of Elizabeth, then chuckled. "I think retrieving her just got a tiny bit more challenging, my dear Tabitha." He kept her from trying to flip him over or push him off as he thought his situation. "Worry not, I can track her from the other side of the world, and we'll bring her home once we're done with our other affairs." He assured with a knowing smirk.

(Chrono, please tone if down. The way you've been phrasing things has not only bordered on powerplaying, but it's rather insulting. My character is wary, not angry, and you've made it very clear you consider yourself better. Please stop. Simply because one character has a skill set that another doesn't doesn't make them inferior. I'm not going to give a strike this time, but if it continues, there will be. And yes, Rachel SAID there was no reason to trust a stranger.)
Tabitha groaned and pushed him away. "Might as well go get them. I can't stand when those two cause trouble. You may stay if you want. I need to get Gyrus anyway. He's probably roasting one of the horses by now."

Rachel walked in the opposite direction of the dragon. "Sorry, but I don't travel with those I don't trust. Maybe if I talk to you around others I consider it, but since I haven't had that chance, no. Good bye. Thank you for the directions though." She balanced lightly on a clothes line crossing the street, fighting her shivering to keep from falling.

Jacob fell out of the bed, partly confused and unaware of how he might have sounded. He went upright and went to put his clothes on. He only went as far as simple clothes, then left to go put his armor on.
Halfway through dressing up he heard piano music playing a sad, depressing melody. Tears dripped down Jacob's face as he tried to put the rest of his armor on in spite of the oncoming sadness. He was only able to get the chest-piece on before he started sobbing and banging his head against the wall. "Where did that arrogance come from? 'Halfway across the world', I can't even keep the Darkness out of my head for two minutes!!" He said aloud, not sure if Tabitha was still listening or not.
The Dragon sighed as his feet were dragged through the snow, then he unceremoniously fell off the roof. There was no 'thud' or any indication that he actually fell. Even the trails he made in the snow had completely vanished.

*max followed rachel carefully, finding a safer way across the road and caught up to her* hey! slow down, you're fast i'll give you that. are you alright? i saw that woman kidnap you. how did you get away? *he panted a little, both exorsted from running and trying to catch his breath after saying so mych without stopping to breath*

Rachel turned suddenly, tripping and falling into a slush pile. She shivered violently as she picked herself up. She vaguely remembered the person in front of her, too cold to think very well right then. She nodded slowly, motioning he follow her to an abandoned area. "O-out of the s-snow. P-please."

Jacob stopped sobbing soon after Tabitha told him to stay, and the music died with it. "No, I'm fine... in fact, how about a little competition?" He quickly suited up the rest of his armor and lifted his sword over his shoulder. "Whoever finds her first, is her new "owner"..." The tears still clinging to his face were practically lost on the cocky smile he sported as he strutted past Tabitha.

*max nodded and followed, finding somewhere warmer and offering rachel his coat* you need it more than i do at the moment. now tell me, what happened with that woman, and who was that dragon back there?

"Max!" Jackal ran up to max, out of breath. "Wh... where did you... Huh?" Just then he noticed rachel... and hid his face so she didn't see him blush. "Um... hi there," he said. "Are you alright? What did that snake do to you? How... sorry, I'm curious..." He sighed. "Just... just pretend that I'm not here... I'll just listen." he grunted as he lifted the man he was carrying over his shoulder.

Rachel shook violently against the coat, cursing her hat. It just had to fall off... Her dark curls fell free around her head. "Thank you. I'll owe you," she said, pulling it tight.
Rachel almost never let anyone know she was a girl. The last time she had, the person she thought she could trust had reported her to the police. She dropped the rather futile lower pitch in her voice. "Why don't you sit? Not much to sit on, but it's better than luggin' that man around like an oversized suitcase." She settled herself on a crate, crossing her legs.
It took a minute to sort her thoughts. "That lady was Tabitha. She-devil more likely. Steer clear of her. She'll do... things to ya."

*max leaned against a wall, quietly, listening to what rachel had to say* i don't think that's going to happen her goon still has his sword and i'm not to keen on letting her make everyone hate us scaled folk again, it's only in the last fifty years they've stated accepting that we're not all blood-thirsty and venomous. so how many people has she got?

Jackal glared at Serpington. "It... is... a... KNIFE," he said. "Do not call it a sword. It's a knife." He sighed angrily. "I still have my darn sword, but that bastard took the only thing that I had that belonged to one of my parents, and I count that as insulting their memory." Padding over to Rachel, he sat down on the crate next to her, blushing. "Sorry about the outburst, miss... I get a bit loud when it comes to things like that..."

Rachel pulled her knees to her chest. "Don't worry. The bar people are ten times worse. As for the dragon from earlier, I don't know his name. Cocky bastard though..."

Joseph chuckled. "I haven't met him, but I have met her other henchman, so I'm sure you're right," he said. He looked at the man slung over his good shoulder. "Perhaps we could leave him with the doctor? I'm not sure if he'll be up for what we have to do..."

Elizabeth looks out of her room and laughs. "oh so you are actually going to go get her. thats a first. not sendind someone else to. good good. now keep it down. im trying to sleep." she could get so difficult if she did not have her sleep. tabitha knew that and ignores her comment.

Jacob's laughter rang through the house as he made his way out of his house. He then slowed to a stop and closed his eyes. He traced Tabitha's connection to Rachel, an easy feat for the one who actually made the connection in the first place. He couldn't help but grin widely as he followed her trail, the snow crunching under his boots.

"So... should we take him to the doctor?" Jackal asked. "I don't want to... hold on..." He held up a hand. "Does anyone else here... boots crunching snow?"

jackal....if you didn't think he was up to coming then why didn't you leave him with the docters when you came after me? o you don't get to complain about bringing him. (if you had read back before posting you'd know i left you both at the doctors) *max moved a little, listening for the sound and licking the air calmly*

Jackal grinned at Max. "If you had been paying attention, you would have seen that it's only the blanket wrapped in a coat." Chuckling, the cat unrolled the blanket and wrapped it around Danny's shoulders. "Here you are," he said, blushing a bit and slipping his coat back on before going back to listening. "I think they're getting closer..."

Tabitha stopped at Elizabeth's door on her way out. Darkness welled up around her hands as she walked in, grinning pleasantly. "I act like you're in charge Elizabeth. Maybe you need a refresher." Tabitha picked Elizabeth up by the throat, sending the darkness through her body like lightning. Pain rushed through Elizabeth's body. "I don't like disobediance. Remember that."

Gyrus spotted Jacob leaving, grinning at the new possibility. He left the half hung carcus of the horse, skinned and with the guts hanging out, on the doorstep to run to Jacob. The swung an arm around the man, the knife and sword on his side. "Hey Jacob, old buddy, old pal. Goin' to get some a' those tasty pancakes at Penny's?"

Rachel paled. She hurriedly gave the coat to Max and the blanket to Jackal, shaking the last bits of snow off. "I have to go. Thank you for the help. I'd stay away from here if I were you. The Demon Lady coming." Fear coarsed through her. She wasn't going back there. Couldn't say she wanted them to find Tabitha either. No one deserved that, especially not two people this nice.

Jacob shook his head. "Gyrus, if I told you my true intentions for my nightly stroll, you would be killing every pedestrian that so much as noticed us. So to spare this city of the clean-up, stay with Tabitha..." He then glanced up at the roofs to see if Rachel had moved since his last detection. The crunching slowed down, but didn't show any other signs of stopping.

Elizabeth growled and lashed back at tabitha. "If you would let me sleep i would not be as likely to snap back at you." she kicked tabitha hard and tried her best to push the pain aside.

Jackal watched Rachel go. "Man," he said. "That snake bitch really has her scared..." He shuddered. "I'd hate it if something happened to her..." He looked over at Max. "We have to do this anyway. Not just for the knife... but for her too."

hmm, i'd say learning a little more might be smart, and i can smell a second person, the big guy that slaped you half way agross that werehouse. your in no shape to take him on again and i have no idea who's with him, probibly best if we go with the girl. *max looked over at jackal sternly* go, i'll be right behind you.

Jackal leaped down behind Rachel and glanced around. "So... out of curiousity, what was the snake forcing you to do?" he asked, pulling his jacket closer to him and offering her the blanket.

For Guyrus, it was like Jacob stood still for a few moments before heading straight towards an alleyway...

Jackal's ears pricked up. "Someone's coming..." He glanced at Rachel. "I take it someone put a tracking signal on you?" he sighed and drew the shamshir, keeping his injured arm nearby himself. "Well, I can only hope that this guy's not as powerful as Gyrus... I'm really in no condition to fight someone off..." He glanced at the hand holding the sword, which briefly glowed with a blue energy. He glanced back at Rachel and carefully handed her a piece of paper with his other hand. "If worse comes to worse, go to this address. A doctor lives there, he can help you." He glanced into the alleyway, gulping. "I really hope this guy's not as powerful as Gyrus... or worse, more powerful..."

Rachel shook her head lightly, tugging Jackel toward an escape ladder. "I'll explain when we're safe. If you couldn't fight Gyrus uninjured though, you'd be dead by him and that dragon."

Gyrus tested the edge of his new knife, the one he'd taken. It'd certainly been worth taking. Cut the horse's hide beautifully. "Where you goin'?I say we head 'em off and scare 'er to pieces. That git won't be missed."

Jackal nodded. "You're right... although technically speaking, I was injured when I fought him... that must've been how he managed to cheat in swordfighting, normally I can catch that kind of stuff." He glanced back at the alleyway as he followed Rachel. "Although I have a very bad feeling that we might not get the option of not fighting them..." He smiled. "Unless, of course, we can trick them."

Jacob turned to Gyrus and pointed at the roof. "Odds are there will be some form of fire escape that they'll use to get back to the roofs or to one of the rooms. If you want to head them off, be my guest..." He casually explained before going into the alleyway. He didn't even pay the homeless any attention as he hunted Rachel down, and would likely kill anyone in his way who he couldn't either scare or easily knock out.

*elizabeth started ghasping as the ice cold feeling started to cover her. it was a deep throbbing ake, one that started i nher bones and startted spreading like wildfire. Elizabeths limbs began to tremble and stiffen as her skin and fur began to cool to dangerous levels. Tabitha stoos there a wicked smile upon her face*

The top of the building loomed not a foot in front of her as she looked back at him. "My hiding area's nearby. I'll lead us there to talk," she said as she hopped to the roof.

Jackal's nose twitched as Rachel's tail brushed his nose. He followed close behind her, stopping when she stopped.
He nodded at Rachel. "Alright. Lead the way."

Rachel smiled, motioning him and Serpington toward a black widow's watch two doors down. Shingles hung precariously on the roof, like the slightest wind would knock them off. Boards covered the all windows but one, the glass broken out to allow entry. "The house is abandoned, so it's safe to hide in. Nothing but rats and possible ghosts to bother us."
