The Expendables
« on: February 08, 2010, 01:47:23 PM »
I'm seriously surprised this movie hasn't had its own thread yet... or I havent been looking hard enough

Basically it's the ultimate 80s action movie experience.
Written, Directed and Starring Sylvester Stallone. It's the story of a group of mercs overthrowing a dictator.
The cast is the main draw of the film:
Stallone is Barney Ross
Jason Statham plays Lee Christmas, the young sidekick to Stallone.
Jet Li plays.... Yin Yang
Mickey Rourke plays some guy called Tool
Bruce Willis, Danny Trejo and the legend that is Arnold Schwarzenneger make cameo appearances

Other cast include
Terry Crews (aka that big dude who plays Chris Rock's dad)
Dolph Lundgren (The russian from Rocky IV)
Eric Roberts (Crime Boss Salvatore Moroni from The Dark Knight)
Randy Couture (Former two-time UFC Light-Heavyweight champion and three-time UFC Heavyweight champion.)
Stone Cold Steve Austin
Giselle ItiƩ (Mexican actress, this is her first english film. It is set in South America.)
Charisma Carpenter
Gary Daniels (who's done a ton of these kinds of action films.)
Hank Amos (Bigtime stuntman. He was in Avatar.)
Aaron Aguilera (Pro Wrestler)
Lauren Jones III (Former Miss New York)

Yes it's gonna be racist, yes it's gonna be sexist, but really would you ever expect anything else from such a film?

Little extra bits
The extras they are using are actual Brazilian mercenaries. Sly said himself that these guys could snap the cast like twigs. These guys take down countries for a living!
Oh yeah and speaking of snapping Sylvester Stallone, during filming he broke his neck... and carried on filming :P

I just think it's made of pure 80s awesome
"Parents always think kids are wasting their youth, and always have done [so] down through the millennia," says Tom Forsyth of RAD Game Tools. "'That Ug, always holding things. His front paws will develop in funny ways. Why can't he walk on all fours like normal proto-hominids?' And so, whatever the kids spend the most time doing, that's always what parents think is a waste of time, and what is corrupting their lives. It doesn't matter what that is. If all they did was homework, parents would be worrying that their kids aren't becoming well-rounded people. And, in fact, parents do this - enrolling math nerds in karate classes and the like. There is no way to win - parental paranoia ensures that kids are always doing the wrong thing."

I'm seeing it opening day for my birthday party. I love action movies and hope it dosen't bomb like the last Action-Hero-Get-Together I saw did(War, with Jason Statham and Jet Li) I only wish that Bruce Willis had a bigger part in it.
