Politics
« on: May 14, 2016, 08:57:58 PM »
Hello there

I've noticed a lot of you guys have a nice political opinion.
That's why I thought to make a political thread (if the mods allow this) so we can support or debate eachothers opinion and stances.
If you don't see your option: write it with your comment

One rule I have for all of you: be respectful to eachother.

If you guys want to know: my political orientation is Nationalism Centristic Belgicist.
I believe that people  has their right to their country.
Belgicism means I want a unified Belgian state including the terroritories of Dutch-Limburg, Luxembourg (country), Zeeuwsch-Vlaanderen and French Flanders.

I'm a bit right-leaning when it comes to economy, gun rights, national security, smaller federal government and immigration. I lean a bit to the left on things like gay rights, taking money out of the lobbying system, abolishing the IRS and Federal Reserve.

I'm with you Rob. I put libertarian for that reason. Smaller government and more freedom for personal choices, especially when pertaining to gun rights and equality.

In my attempt to revive this topic, you can always post a political compass of you here; this can make a political discussion easier

I'm not sure how I'd place myself, but an internet quiz tells me I'm a "Solid Liberal" along with 15% of the US population, so I guess it must be true ;)

A few interesting internet quizes if you're not sure
http://spekr.org/
This one is pretty big but you can see your result "live"
https://www.politicalcompass.org/
This one is the most known one and a bit smaller, however there is a small bias towards liberalism (this could be possible due the suggestive questioning however this is a minor factor)

I can't remember which quiz I took, but it was definitively US-centric which is mostly OK, but there were a bunch of questions about my views on the equality of black Americans and that's just not something I have much exposure to.

Also, many of my views tend to fit badly because I am scathing of governments yet believe in stronger government (just done better).  So it ends up being 50/50 whether I get scored as a libertarian or a fascist XD

I also think each country is a different case.  For example, I can see why you hold the views you do Bricket given Belgium's history, yet the solutions to those problems are not necessarily the same for other countries.

I'm also kinda against one country trying to tell another how to run itself.  I certainly don't think any democratic country has it "so right" that it is a good advertisement for democracy.  So forcing democracy on others just rubs me the wrong way.  No matter how well intended.

Well, I think that the people have the right to govern themselves--that is the government not getting involved in issues like women's health, guns, and gay marriage,, but should control federal institutions like public education, the USDA, and the EPA.

I goofed up and closed the tab when I was nearly done with the Spekr quiz, but by the look of it I was lower center, just a sliver to the left. Though part of that was likely due to being unsure of a number of things. I like to know everything about everything before coming to a conclusion.
