Title: Against the Night OOC
Post by: Xavier Akafur on July 16, 2015, 10:04:17 PM
[If interested please drop an application and character sheet below]

This is the OOC thread for our high fantasy adventuring party. I'm going to be taking votes for the general layout of the world [see below], and I will be working out a more solid plotline than just "Generic adventurers save the day and find treasure" once we have some solid character stories.

Alright, first we'll need the character sheets. Try to be as detailed as possible for this thread, as I intend to try and weave everyone's backstory into the plot of the world and the story.

Quick note about the power scale of this story. Imagine a civilian being about a 2, and God being 11, a Demi-god being a 10. Superman probably falls in around a 9, your run of the mill wizard at about a 4. I would prefer if we didn't have any characters above a 6. Playing demigods in fun and all, but it makes playing a lower-power character feel irrelevant to the scheme. If you want to play a stronger character, run it by me first and I'll see if we can work it in.

And here's my character

Name: Xavier Osmodeus Akafur
Age: 24
Species: Otter-Wolf(Alchemical Construct)
Gender: Male
Class: Brawler/Sorcerer
Power Scale: 5.5

Description: Top to Bottom: Pointed ears, covered in a plush chocolate fur, rest atop the hybrid's head. Gently rounded along the edges until they disappear in his flame-colored hair. The male's three-tone hair is silky to the touch, a bit of softness on an otherwise rough fellow. Red roots fade to orange, then to yellow at the tips, which fall haphazardly around his head. His face is dominated by vivid, emerald green eyes often hiding behind those yellow sunglasses he favored. His muzzle is shorter than the average canine, though still respectably long, and capped with a broad, black nose. Three whiskers protrude from each side of that snout, set in a triangular pattern and shifting slightly with every change of facial expression. Mouth was often set in a contented smile. Dangerously sharp teeth were white, but not perfectly so, canines slightly accentuated. Slightly long, yet powerful neck attached to broad shoulders. The hybrid was naturally large, and it showed most in this area. Chest was barrel-like to a slight degree, tuft of extra long hair a lighter shade of brown than the rest of his short, sleek fur started near his neck and tapered down to a point between his pectorals. His arms are long, and muscled in that subtle way that bespoke practicality rather than vanity. The male's body is toned by years of living in the wild and on the road. A slash of white fur cut diagonally across his chest, mirrored on his back. He'd always had a voracious appetite, which allowed him to have such a solidly-built body. However, due to that his stomach had the slightest bit of fluff, though with all his sleek fur he still looked rather striking. That extra bit of softness to his body was only highly noticeable when touched or under close scrutiny. He possessed the heavy paws of a brawler, each digit of which was connected to the others by a webbing of soft, brown skin, darker than his fur. Digits were also tipped with a blunt claw, black as coal and slightly less than an inch long. Pads on his palms and on each finger-tip, the skin of which was black and worn to a leathery texture. His spine was flexible, as an otter's ought to be, allowing for improved dexterity in any situation that demanded it. A massive tail was situated just above his rump, the four and a half foot length of which was solid muscle covered in the same sleek fur as the rest of him on top, while a small stripe of lighter fur ran underneath. While not terribly dexterous, it was flexible enough to curl  into a semi-circle comfortably, and could be used to devastating results when in a fight. He is rather peculiar about his tail. He will allow nobody to touch it and never lets it drag the ground while walking, even though doing so causes him to slouch forward slightly to offset the weight of it at times. His hips had the tiniest of curves thanks to that appetite of his, and his thighs were well-muscled from years of walking and swimming through the wilds of his home. Digigrade legs caused him to have large foot-paws, toes webbed and clawed much like his hands. The pads on his feet were rough from wear, and much larger than those on his hands.

History: The origin of Xavier Akafur is not known in its entirety, even to the man himself. His knowledge is only through secondhand accounts of the incident. A great alchemist once perfected the formula to combine organic matter, making homunculous-like creatures in a secret workshop, far away from the prying eyes of civilization. Such power cannot be kept a secret, however, and a bandit kingpin soon came knocking. In the ensuing conflict, the alchemical mixture was spilled. This is where those whose story he knew had fled. The workshop exploded shortly after, as the alchemical compound was not stable is such large quantities. Xavier came stumbling out of the smoke and rubble some twenty minutes later, with no memories prior to that. He stayed with the nearest village awhile, nursing some minor injuries over the harsh months of the winter. The following year he departed to try and find his own way in the world. Since then he has become a rather experienced adventurer and treasure hunter, using his gains primarily to purchase and fund an exploration crew on a sailing vessel known as the Stormrider. Some consider him and his crew pirates, but most who have spent time with the hybrid know he simply had a low regard for the common law, and is quite friendly and helpful to those in need. As for the treasure hunting venture, he has made it his personal mission to never relenquish or use for himself artifacts of great power. Those stay locked safely away in the cabin of his ship, heavily guarded and warded against magical intrusions. He is currently looking for some kind of vault or reliquary to store a number of extremely dangerous artifacts.

Noteworthy gear: Xavier is never seen without a long, calf-length overcoat emblazoned with the insignia of his ship across the back. It's a bright blue heavy fabric, with flame patterns embroidered along the cuffs and hem. Lightning bolts crease the shoulders and the back of the garment. It is magically enchanted to be slightly tougher than standard fabric, and will slowy repair itself over time if damaged.
Xavier also possesses a golden stopwatch chained to the right pocket of his coat. The hands of this stopwatch are constantly spinning, and when to top button is clicked twice the watch will project a portal onto any surface that will take the owner to wherever they consider home at the time. This effect reads the innermost desires and cannot be tricked into going to any other location but the user's honest home.
Abilities: Xavier is a magical construct, and as such his physical form is augmented heavily by magical energy. He is a lot tougher than he should naturally be, able to take a heavy amount of punishment and still stand back up. This effect translates slightly into physical strength, but no more so than a normal human would be capable of. He is also resistant to poison and disease.
Xavier wields twin forces of magic, one is a destructive energy fueled by rage and sheer power called Wildfire. It is pure arcane energy channeled into a destructive power, giving it the appearance of angry orange flames. Unlike typical fire magic, wildfire actually does more kinetic damage than heat damage. A fireball fromn Xavier is not fearsome because it will burn you, but because it will explode with the force of a bomb.
The second magic has been dubbed Lux Lucis, or silverlight. It's a repairative and shielding magic, able to enhance the strength and repair non-living items, while able to very slightly mend living tissue. This magic appears as a bright silver refracting light, and can be used as a shield if projected into the air, though it is substantially weaker than traditional shielding magic. This magic is more versatile, but a great deal weaker than wildfire.
Noteworthy Skills: Xavier is a competent unarmed fighter, swimmer, and actor. He's highly charismatic when the situation requires it, and is well-liked by most. He also has a fairly expansive knowledge of dungeons, traps and common magical items. He can use other types of magic but requires a spellbook or other information source, and is a novice at best, as he has had no formal training in the arcane arts. He knows how to sail a ship and navigate using star charts.
Flaws: Being a magical construct, he will lose a large portion of his vitality is exposed to any type of anti-magic effects. These effects wither him and make him look like he is near death after long-term exposure.

He is also a walking magical anomaly, and that will occasionally attract monsters and other magical phenomena to his location. He never stays in one place for this exact reason, becoming stationary for any length of time greatly increases this effect.

His magical fortitude only protects him from physical damage. Caustic effects like venom or acid will eat through him just as easily as a normal human.

Name:
? "Dragonhawk" Faeray

Age:
Uncertain

Species:
Reaper

Gender:
Neutrois, but will accept male pronouns if required

Class:
Aethermancer/melee

Power Scale:
4.5

Description:
A tall and imposing 9'6", Dragonhawk is immediately made distinct by the fact the entire upper portion of his head is a bare skull with somewhat large, fanged teeth and eye sockets that are lit from within, giving an idea of the direction he is peering in. Long, pointed horns extend out from behind large, feathery ears that can either stand erect or fold down, picking up sound from all around. Beneath them lay a pair of spiraled horns, a studded brace attached to the top and bottom of both with a chain linking the two. From what remains of the upper portion of his head grows a mane that is shaped similarly to a mohawk.

His chest is formed from a distinct keel that makes it appear as though he has two sets of pectorals. The first is attached to a massive pair of wings that have two layers of feathers on the back for insulation and a membrane that extends out from beneath it, both having six distinctive fingers with the skin stopping 3/4ths of the way down. They allow for fine maneuverability and aerial prowess far greater than a bird or bat. Set just below them are his arms, which are marred by a railroad track scar that adorns both the middle of his upper arms and legs. Beneath them on the forearm SEE-064 has been branded and tattooed over as well as a set of three-link chains at the wrist, the third appearing broken and angled upward, treated to the same process.

Beneath his arms and wings appears to be a bare rib cage, but in fact it is external bone that grew to cover those that lay underneath as well his spine. Beyond this anomaly of anatomy, he is carried by digitigrade legs that end in three toes and a single, hooked claw. His tail is long and reptilian in form, ending in three distinct spikes with a hooked blade at the tip; as much a weapon as the talon-like claws on his hands and feet.

He is covered in a silken blue fur with a white underbelly and blue-purple wings that almost appear crystalline.

History:

If you were to ask where he came from, on a good day he would say that he was irrevocably seared in an inferno of his own creation and that he suffered his own, personal hell because one of his Elders prophesied his untimely death and rebirth. Ask again and he may instead state that he was born to a wealthy baron as a bastard child and once sailed the seven seas on the Flying Dutchman. Or perhaps something even more wild: That he was a simple dock worker in a major fishing village that simply got lost out on sea... somehow.

In reality, the truth is far simpler: His species is dying. None of them know how it began, but whatever is slowly killing them eats away at the flesh. Some have lost minimal parts of their body and are only marred so far as small patches of missing muscle and fur. Others are similar to Dragonhawk in that their loss is more profound, some even missing portions of their legs or neck. And while they have not made any headway in understanding what is happening to their people, they have managed to stop its progression through the usage of magic.

However, they claim these spells were not of their or any mortal beings creation, but through that of a pantheon of gods--at least according to the first who ended their afflicted blights progress. It is claimed that they are now tied to the avatar of Death incarnate and must reap the souls of the Shift, as well as those they send to their graves. Whether or not this is true or purely a fantasy to put them at ease, the race has become known as the Reapers or Angels of Death, depending on how fanciful the person in question is feeling.

Noteworthy gear:

An unusually unique key attached to a silver chain that he always wears around his neck. Golden-orange studs in both ears and a single teardrop earring that he constantly cares for. A black pouch with a white, fur-lined closure tied to his leg by a couple of straps, containing several handmade journals, a few pens, and numerous, well-sealed ink wells "just in case". For weaponry, he carries a modified crossbow with no bolts to be located on his person as well as a combined blade and whip.

Curiously he does not wear anything else, whether it is armor to protect him or clothing to cover what doesn't exist. He claims that all he requires is his pouch and an array of straps to carry his choice of weapons on.

Abilities:

Dragonhawk uses one distinct form of magic that he refers to as aethermancy, a class of spell primarily based on healing and tears that draw their energy from the Shift. What he understands is that he can open rifts that span relatively small distances that allow anyone to step through them, so that they may escape or have the jump on an enemy. As for the healing, it can be relatively strong and is capable of mending broken bones, cuts, lacerations, and even staunching the flow of blood from a severed limb. However, it cannot regrow or reattach lost arms and legs, something he discovered in a most unfortunate series of circumstances; but it can mend the flesh of body parts that have not quite been removed completely. Even if only by a tendon and if they are miraculously still alive.

In regards to other spells, he can recreate the memory of an object, such as a torch or small bridge. He can also create magical bolts for his crossbow or imbue his blade/whip with the same energy, making their impact and slashing far more effective. He is also fiddling with other types of magic that can make someones blood boil or create a flurry of fiery butterflies that are for both show and destruction.

Noteworthy skills:
A competent ranged fighter when it comes to the usage of a crossbow, he prefers to be in the air and off the ground instead of up close and personal. He finds raining death from above highly entertaining when he is incapable of using any spells that may be considered worthy for combat. However, if it must become up close and rather personal, he will primarily use his blade/whip with his teeth, claws, feet and tail serving as secondary offensive weapons, viciously slashing with the full intent to disembowel. He can also see the spirits of the departed, technically being 'dead' himself.

Another thing he can do which may or may not be considered a skill is that he can carry a single person in flight, so long as they are light enough. Although when grounded, he can ferry people of virtually any weight for what some would consider abnormal distances, under the circumstance they are not the equivalent of a stone golem.

Flaws or Weaknesses:
Though he will always attempt to hide it, when he heals the injuries of others it is exceedingly common for him to gain them to a lesser degree, though his body will quickly repair the damage unless it is directly inflicted. Then he will bleed like any other.

He will also completely freeze when his scars or the brands that adorn his body are mentioned either directly to him or overheard, whether it is during a nice conversation around a fire or the middle of combat; regardless who is perceived to be talking. If asked why he suddenly stopped shooting people in the face in exchange for staring at butterflies in the meadow, he will have no answer.

Name: Silas Brekke
Age: 47
Species: Genetically modified Alsatian (German Shepherd)
Class: Closest thing that I can think of to his skills and abilities is a witcher (though, rather than blatantly stealing, I shall call them "Vorsord" From the Armenian "Hunter"), from the video game (and book) series of the same name. There's also a TV show, but we don't talk about that >.> . He's basically an extremely skilled swordsman, monster hunter, who dabbles in magic. Technically not magic, but "signs".

Power scale: maybe... 5.6. without his signs, he's a solid 4.

Description: Top to bottom: Silas has softly pointed ears, going down to his ears at a slight angle, flaring out near the base, shrinking back down as it touches his skill. His eyes, turned to that of a cat as a part of his mutations, glow a soft gold. His forehead slopes down at an abrupt, straight angle, ending in a straight, square muzzle. He has no hair, but that is not due to his mutations, that is due to choice. He has a rather thick, muscled neck, sitting on top of a set of broad, strong shoulders. His chest, arms, and legs, are all covered in a myriad of scars, from a myriad of things. Those scars sit atop a coat of sleek, jet  black fur. If one would care to touch it (And he lets very, VERY few people do so), one would find it quite soft. His arms are thick and muscled, ending in a pair of strong, clawed hands. Said claws are naturally rather dull, but, Silas has taken to sharpening them on a semi regular basis, giving them a coating of silver. All that does, is give them a barely noticeable shine, and give Silas a last ditch weapon, in case he looses his swords. Which never happens. but, as his old instructor Vesemir once said "The surprising is only a surprise because you don't expect it. so expect everything."
His tail curves out ever so slightly, leaving just a small bit of fluff. Said tail is there to help him remain balanced on a set of strong, digitrade legs.

History: Silas most likely wasn't born to that name, or even the nationality that said name connotes. Vorsord are all orphaned children, and, contrary to rumor, are not taken from any parents (who all loved their children so much!), who's children had suddenly disappeared. As such, said children are usually found in, near, or around war zones. Said places have a tendency to cause orphans. It's a sad, but true fact. Silas is, as you could guess, one of those children. His parents were ended by a Tsendian soldier, quite angered that Silas's father would not oblige his (quite gentlemanly) requests to wed (in much, much more crude, vulgar terms) his wife.

Silas was found, mewling and crying in his crib by a Vorsord hired to deal with some corpse eaters that have been terrorizing the local villages. Said Vorsord (who's name Silas never learned) took him in, and he was inducted into the wolf school. He was taught almost all forms martial arts, from ones that require just his arms, to ones that require swords, to spears. He also learned almost all there is to know about monsters, ghosts and spirits. He also dabbled in various alchemical things (to distinguish what was done by a human from what was done by a monster)
Once he reached the age of about 17, and completed his training, it was decided that his training was complete.
He was given a mix of alchemical herbs that directly affected his nervous system. Said herbs have an extremely high chance to give him one of the most painful deaths possible. Luckily, Silas survived, and gained lightning quick reflexes as a result, in addition to a heightened sense of smell, sight, touch, hearing, and even taste.
After that, Silas stayed at his place of training for a few weeks, to recuperate. Then, a random place was chosen to send him, quite literally throwing him out on his ass.
He went to the nearest village, and did as his training told him. He looked to a notice board, and started killing Monsters.

Equipment: He wears a coat of plates, with Dimetrium (said to be thrice as strong, and rare, as steel. But, however you temper it, it has extremely poor qualities when you're looking into making a blade) plates riveted to the inside. The cloth of his coat of plates reaches to about his ankles, with Dimetrium Chainmail  (riveted to a tough leather weave) reaching down to his knees. His shoulders are guarded by Dimetrium Pauldrons, and his forearms sandwiched between a pair of dimetrium plates. His gloves are a relatively thin (But tough) leather, in order to maintain maximum mobility of his wrists, and to allow him to use his signs.
Silas has two swords on his back, one steel, one silver. One for monsters, one for humans. They are both of an extremely high quality alloy, that is not exactly steel. A closely guarded witcher secret. No-one but the Vorsord know. To the rest of the world, it is steel.
Both swords are of the "Bastard", or "hand and a half" variety, that is, they are midway between a Longsword, and a shortsword. It has a specialized grip, giving enough space for just one hand near the crossguard, and a thinner, less ergonomic grip to encourage the user to grip it around the pommel.

Noteworthy gear: A pendant in the shape of a wolf's head, which vibrates in the presence of magic.

Noteworthy skills: He is an extremely skilled swordsman; one of the best. And that is without his enhanced senses.
He is also one of the best trackers in the land, second only to his master in Vorsord school.
He is also has quite a bit of stamina, speed, and strength compared to your average person's.
His signs seem like magic, but aren't technically so. Magic is technically only usable by a select few. His signs require only concentration, and the memorization of certain hand gestures.

(Im just gonna copy the signs from the witcher wiki cos I'm getting tired. I'll fix it tomorrow!)

Aard
– a telekinetic wave that can throw back, knock down or stun an opponent. This sign can also be used to destroy obstacles, for example crumbling walls or stacks of barrels.
Igni
– a gush of flames that wound opponents. When upgraded, the sign has a chance of incinerating opponents and has a larger area of effect. It can also be used to detonate flammable gases emitted by some bombs.
Yrden
– a magical trap placed on the ground, which will wound and immobilize opponents. The sign's basic level allows you to place a single yrden sign on the ground. After upgrading it, you'll be able to place up to three yrden signs at a time. These will work in unison, creating an impassible barrier.
Quen
– a protective shield that lasts for 30 seconds at the sign's basic level. It is a sign that Geralt uses on himself – quen absorbs all damage directed at Geralt, and the upgraded version reflects 50% of the damage back toward to enemy. While quen is in effect, Geralt cannot regenerate vigor.
Axii
– a charm placed on an opponent. If the charm attempt is successful, the enemy will become your ally for a short while, fighting at your side.

Flaws and weaknesses: he just plain tends to not like mages. He had had onky a few negative experiences, and they had hardly affected him at all. But honestly, he doesn't really know why. He also has quite the penchant for these Tsendian inventions called "Cigars" He also is quite the lone wolf, believing that he alone is one of the few competent people around. As he says "I would rather trust a beast than a man."

This is just a rough draft for when / if I am able to join. I am also typing this while waiting for my ride to show up so parts my be left incomplete until later.

Name: Xia
Age: mid twenties
Species: Fox with some coyote running in her blood.
Gender: Female
Class (Or general combat style): Warrior, Merc, Adventurer for Hire.
Power Scale: Low

Description:

The length of Xia's ears compensate for her shorter than average stature. A vixen with light brown fur her pelt is coated with patches of darker brown spots, her underbelly is a light creme yellow.

Under her fur Xia has accumulated enough girth to be called unpleasently plump. Rolls of flesh cling to her body giving her a pot bellied stocky look.

Despite this fact she still wears the standard gear of a female adventure which is to say she wears a cloth wrap around her chest covered in a small green vest. Her waist is adorned by a yellow loin cloth that comes down to her knees as do the green pair of shorts about her legs. Her rather fleshy middle is left exposed for better...or worse.

History:

Xia never hit the big time as an adventurer. She never had a taste for parties and long drawn out quests. She would drift from town to town picking up smaller jobs, most legal, some not. When her money for ale, food and lodging ran out she would move on.

The fox caught a break rescuing the daughter of a wealthy cattle baron from g'nouls. Small lizard like people with a taste for helpless villagers. The job paided off a modest sum, enough for Xia to survive for several months in comfort.

She only realized later that it was the start of her decline as an adventurer. Sloth and gluttony took their toll on the vixen, leaving her plump and out of shape. Over the next few years the vixen spent more time in taverns waiting for adventures to come her way rather than actually being on an adventure.

Noteworthy gear (Any magical items or trinkets):

Halberd. A pole weapon with a curved blade.

Abilities(Magic/weapon abilities): none

Noteworthy skills: skilled halberder. Experienced adventurer.

Flaws or Weaknesses:

Gluttonous

Lazy

Loud mouthed

One question real quick, how exactly is magic handled? Is it something everyone can use? Or are only a few people born with the "source?" (Hence the term sorcerer, sorceress)

 Name: Mortimus Maximus
Age: 24
Species: English Bull Terrier Hellhound
Gender: Agender Transmale
Class (Or general combat style): Magic User/Brawler
Power Scale: 4.5-5

Description: Mort stands at about 5’11” and has a thick build. He has short, thin fur that is a creamy brown color that grows to a darker brown/black near the end of his muzzle. His eyes are heterochromatic – the left eye is white, and the right eye is brown – a result of being on the mortal plane and absorbing positive energies. Between them runs a triangular white streak – the base starting at his black nose and tapering a little above his brow – and a white marking that starts at his chin and ends in a large splotch on his chest. His fingers and toes are also white, and he has dark ‘brow’ marks that are the same color as his muzzle. On his pectorals, there are two pinkish scars that mirror one another and run slightly under his arm, evidence of breast removal. He also sports two tattoos that look like three chain links on each wrist. Lastly, he has a long, thin spaded devil tail that is dark in color and furless. On the spade itself, there are four hard, but fleshy spines that run along the middle ridge and point in the same direction as the ‘head’ of the tail.

History: Originally from Hell (or the alternate dimension deemed as Hell by mortals), Mortimus worked as a foot soldier beneath a lesser demon. After crossing over to the mortal plane and seeing how mortals lived, however, he was no longer interested in returning home to the life he'd had as a disposable pawn. As a result he stranded himself on the mortal plane and became a deserter. Since then his memories have become more rooted in the real world and his talk of hell seem like whispers of a madman, the only thing proving his ramblings as true being his spaded tail and heterochromatic eyes, which allow him to see both the living and the dead.

Noteworthy gear (Any magical items or trinkets): He wears a collar leather with studs. From said collar, an orange glass eye hangs from it – said eye can contain or store spirits and other magical energies.

Abilities(Magic/weapon abilities): Can see and communicate with the dead, uses blood magic (abilities which include weaponizing/manipulating his own blood; see: hardening blood to hit harder/take hits, clotting blood to stop wounds from bleeding out, etc. Must be in close proximity to blood to manipulate it, must be own blood), and is fire resistant, is sometimes able to manipulate fire, but nothing too large. Cannot create own fire.

Noteworthy skills: Very skilled in hand to hand combat, blood magic making him a very hard to handle opponent. Can take hits very easily. Has enhanced hearing and sense of smell.

Flaws or Weaknesses: Blood ability can be offset by vibrations/very loud noises. Can get hotheaded and is very stubborn/an independent thinker. Will not follow orders if he does not respect the person asking.

For high fantasy I generally take the "Only certain people are capable of learning magic, but it's not insanely rare." approach. Like maybe 1 in 10 people are capable of using magic, but of course some of those people never get the training needed to unlock their potential or simply take a different route. Most civilians or common folk you run into will not have any magic abilities, or if they do they'll be more like cantrips and minor tricks than full blown sorcery.

(Wip)

Name: Drake Skaletta

Age: 22

Species: Fox/raccoon  (Hybrid)

Gender: Male

Description: Drake stands at 5'11" with a lean and lanky build. He has a simple red Fox fox fur with a white stomach and dark brown extremities. over top his fox fur he has dark brown raccoon markings and a raccoon tail while his ears and head are fox like. On top of his head he has long dark brown hair like fur that he ties into a ponytail. He has no tattoos or other markings on his body besides a bunch of rune markings covering his left arm and torso.

His clothes consist of baggy fine wool clothing of various types. But he always wears his signature grey cowl that covers his torso just barely hiding his long arms it also has a hood on it. It is made of a fine silk with gold embroidering that has the symbol of his old mage guild on it which is a thin dragon with a mood behind it.

History: Drake was raised in a rich household with his mother and father. They got along fairly well and he had a simple life. Drake was very curious as a child always picking up new hobbies as he grew up. At the age of ten he figured out he had magic when he accidentally fired a lightning bolt at a bird. His parents didn't know magic so the sent him to the night reptile mages guild to learn and control his magic. While there he quickly learned the ins and outs of magic and even surpassed the arch mage of the guild and got removed from the guild when that happened at the age of nineteen.

With nowhere else to go he went home and found out that the estate he grew up on was raided and destroyed and his parents slaughtered causing him to wander. He has made a small name for himself as the hunter mage the best mage mercenary when it comes to dealing with mage based problems. He continuesw andering to this day to try and find the murderers that killed his family.

Class (Or general combat style): mage archanist. Basically he can craft spells on the go whenever he needs them. Making him versatile and unpredictable. He generally likes to get fights finished quickly by using everything around him.

Notable gear: He doesn't have much to his name besides the master magic tome he carries around incase he needs to look something up to craft a spell. Also a satchel to carry said tome.

Skills:

Mastery of magic- all the magic he can preform can't be negated and he can't make a mistake when casting spells.

Anti-magic- Drake has spells than can negate or backfire any spell being cast around him. High level mages can work around this. can be used in the form of barriers to deflect all magic period.

pure magic- non-element magic that can preform a wide variety of spells.
-blast: can make weak exploding blasts of pure magic. Sends enemies flying easily.
-boost: lays a magic cloud in a area making all spells that go through it to be enhanced.
-beam: a beam of pure magic. Very precise but weak.
-telekinesis: can preform acts of levitation on objects and people. Needs to focus the spell and the heavier the object the harder it is to preform. Can also use telekinesis to enhance his movement causing him to move faster and jump higher.

Flame magic- a fire element type of magic that focuses on power and attack magic.
-ball: a ball of fire that can be thrown. Spills fire onto surroundings. The ball itself has no damage.
-Torrent: shoot a geyser of fire from his hands. Only reaches about a meter and the flames are like liquid being able to burn on stone for a minute by itself.
-kindle: can create a small fire up to three meters away. No projectile, instant.

Lightning magic- lightning based magic that is weak but can disrupt mana flow with it. Can also cause manaburn with it.
-arc toss: a single blast of lightning that arcs to other opponents. Stuns very little damage.
-burning touch: burns mana to cause a burning sensation. High damage can cause mages to not be able to cast spells for short amount of time.

Illusion magic- a non-combat magic that plays with people's minds.
-veil: hides the caster in plain sight. When the spell is active the caster can't be noticed. He can still be seen but people don't realize he is there.
-obstacle: crates a imaginary object that others can see. It can be anything from a sword to a building.

Conjuring magic- can conjure up weapons and creatures to help him fight. He just needs to use some mana to summon then his mana cap is lowered till the summon thing vanishes.
-conjure blade: can conjure up a variety of bladed for as long as he wants. Hos other spells aren't as effective when he does this.
-conjure familiar: can summon his familiar to aide him in combat. It has no special powers besides being able to move through shadows and firing lumps of shadows at targets.

Flaws and weaknesses: dispite being a powerful mage he has problems conserving mana. That is why he prefers to end fights quickly. he also has no formal sword training either making him less useful at close range.

Power Scale: 5.7

This is in case it is okay to have another character. He will be the main forerunner with DH sort of in the background; less there and more of a reminder as well as a sort of ferry for off-post errands that deal with Nemael's lore and magical capabilities.

Name:
Nemael "Laharin" S. Tandal*

Age:
24

Species:

Icairi

Gender:

Transmale

Class:

Shift Mage

Power Scale:

5.7

Description:

Veiled in a hooded cloak and heavily patterned armor that covers him from muzzle to foot, he is a fairly tall individual at an even 8'6". Aside from this, the few details that can be seen are the large wings donning his back, for which his guise has been purposefully cut to allow and a pair of special gauntlets and heavy boots made from an unknown metal. Only "Dragonhawk" knows what this man looks like in his entirety for he is not easily trusting of strangers. Extraneous features that cannot be covered by the outfit are hidden through the usage of magic to the exclusion of his wings.

History:
On the continent of Iyix there are nine cities that have been built around the capital of Solace. Each one is said to be its own contained utopia for they cater to all denominations of specific religions, ideologies, theism's and spiritualities. Everyone is allowed entry so they may experience all of the belief systems and choose one of their own. Of course, once they have chosen to set down roots they are never allowed to leave again.

However, this was not entirely true of Anaxas, a city run by a race known as the Kuar who considered the number six to be divine due to its correlation with the number of their deities, holy books and divinely appointed priests/priestesses.

In Anaxas, you were free to leave so long as you fell under one of the four ranks out of six. Rani, Tako, Illan, or Paka. If you were considered Chata, you would either be thrown outside the walls to fend for yourself or sent into the arena to prove your divine worth. However, if you were deemed Icairi you could live within the safety of the cities walls, but you were considered lesser than everyone--even the Chata, for those that remained at least fought for their right to live there.

Thus as misfortune would have it, Nemael was born and ranked Icairi to parents who were considered Rani. While they were free to explore the ruins and the Shift, travelling throughout the known world, he was forced to accept a belief system he had no desire to follow.

After many years passed and his curiosity about the outside world grew to an all time high, his parents decided to take it upon themselves to request that their child be re-evaluated or at least given the same title as they were. It made no sense that a child born to Rani would somehow be seen as a lesser entity, just as it did not for a child born to Icairi parents to be ranked Illan.

The Kuar's response was something neither they or their son expected.

Deemed to be acting outside of the constraints of their holy rank and spitting in the faces of the six deities who had kindly given them shelter in a world of madness and death, they were chained by their wrists to the city walls and left to rot. Unsurprisingly, Nemael did not take to this kindly. What did shock them, however, was that he had been secretly taught how to control a magic that was intertwined with the Shift, a realm of reality that was seen as the land between the Ereworld and the dead.

Similar to Aethermancy, it allowed the opening of portals between places. It was also capable of opening small rifts that spirits and demons could spill out through, something he had chosen to do when he went to save his parents from their ill deserved fate. However, he did show the Kuar and their ilk an unexpected kindness by only allowing several entities to come through the rift and into their reality, leaving it open only long enough so that he could retrieve them and get away without injury.

To this day his parents still explore ruins far away from this continent. Nemael, on the other hand, decided he wanted to aid others as he had with them in whatever way he could. He knew there were people out there dealt a hand similar to his, if not worse, and he had no intention of leaving them to rot. Postings outside taverns and small villages quickly became his friend and for a time he roamed the country side, dispelling spirits and killing monsters who proved too dangerous.

During this time was how he met Dragonhawk, thought by townsfolk to be a dangerous monster when sighted in the forests at night. When Nemael discovered otherwise the two became quick friends, eventually leading to Nemael making the request to take his last name. While he loved his parents dearly, he no longer wanted to be associated with the world he was once a part of.*

Noteworthy gear:
Black cowl attached to cloth covering arms, circling back at the waist and creating a tattered coat tail. Metal shoulder pauldrons, bracers and separate gauntlets (latter partially ruined from Hound of Lockwise attack). Gold finger braces with thick claw tips. Golden breast plate with hide necked lip and slim V-shape from the throat to the chin. Black pants. Golden thigh and shin bracers as well as boots with distinct 'talons' emulating his own. Tail is covered half-way down by black cloth with spiked, gold metal plates. Rest is uncovered for maneuverability, balance, and usage as a weapon. A key worn on a silver chain that appears to be fairly similar to Dragonhawk's. A black pouch with a white fur-lined closure attached to his leg via two straps.

Abilities:
-Can open rifts that allow short jumps to nearby places OR attract spirits and demons from the Shift, as well as transport a living being into it if they step through an incorrect rift

-Can imbue weapons with the magic of the Shift, making them more resilient to blows as well as giving them a burning, white energy that acts similarly to fire

-Can briefly cloak himself and allies from nearby enemies

-Can create the 'memory' of an item that once existed in various places, such as torches, bridges and doorways

-Can heal moderate injuries such as strains, some fractures, cuts and stop internal bleeding; can staunch the bleeding from severed limbs or cut arteries, but at a great cost* (note Shift flaw)

-Can conjure weapons from the energies of the Shift into physical, lethal objects

-Can see into the Shift* (note flaw)

-Can use his own blood (immediate) or the energies/magic/"souls" of weakened enemies to protect himself from physical and magical blows

Noteworthy skills:
He has become extremely skilled in the usage of each weapon he is able to conjure into existence from the Shift, whether it is melee, fisticuffs or ranged. However, there is one he does find preferable and has used most often, but he tries to keep it varied so he can remain sharp and agile, regardless of what is being used.

Flaws or Weaknesses:
When using his blood as a barrier he will be severely weakened, only capable of creating an almost entirely ethereal weapon with what energy he has left if he has not already done so. This is due to the fact that its production is a reaction to threats that he has not yet perceived, but that his magic has detected and moves against. Thus it is often a surprise when his blood wall goes up and a move that he was not able to anticipate, putting him at a severe disadvantage immediately.

He also has no control over the spirits and demons that may come walking out of the rifts that lead from the Shift. Thus he will not be able to direct them into attacking their opponents or prevent them from charging at allies, leading him to solely use it when it is tactically advantageous and everyone can quickly get out of the way.

Although he can see into the Shift, this can prove to be a massive disadvantage. At all times he must concentrate on remaining in the reality perceived by the majority of people, otherwise he will be incapable of differentiating between what is here and can harm him and what is over there. While this has become second nature, just like breathing, if anything major shakes his foundations or he becomes too weakened by magic-draining abilities, healing major wounds typically outside of his purview or any other cause, the veil will drop.

Lastly, though it may seem like an odd weakness, he will do anything necessary to make sure his cloak remains on when around those he knows little of, regardless if it is during a combat situation or a normal conversation. He carries a debilitating fear that someone may discover who he actually is and blame him for events of the past; ones that were written by false prophets.

*Extra: Has no blood relation to Dragonhawk; reason for last name explained in history. Nemael also happens to be his real name, though he will more often state that it is 'Laharin'. Every now and again he will accidentally slip up; such as what happened in the RP and why he got nervous. Laharin is the name of one of his oldest friends who is deceased. His middle name is Seranus and another common one he will use in place of 'Nemael'.

Title: Re: Against the Night OOC
Post by: Khaki (on hiatus) on July 20, 2015, 04:53:58 AM
  Name: Khaki Shelter
 Age: 20
 Species: Side striped Jackal
 Gender: Male
Class (Or general combat style): Apothecary and hunter, he is skilled in the used of bows and spears but lacks any close range combat skills.
 Power Scale: 3

Description: Khaki is a former soldier who fled the battlefield after murdering a fellow soldier during an argument over stolen goods, he has since made a living as a hunter of animals and occasionally, outlaws. He is a loyal and dedicated individual with a strong vigilante-like streak that can make him somewhat unpredictable and constantly lands him in trouble. In addition to his skills in archery and tracking animals, he is able to craft various medicines and is practised in healing.  Khaki is relatively small in stature, weighing less that 60kg. He stands at 5’11 with a dark black back and tail, tan fur covering most of his body and a white chest.

History: Despite being technically a noble by birth, he was an illegitimate child. Therefore, he has few family connections. He was taken in by a group of travelling healers after leaving his home village and learned their trade after many years, eventually he joined a local militia as an adult and was trained as an expert crossbowman. However, his career did not last as he killed a fellow soldier during a fight and escaped to avoid punishment. Since then he has made a living off trading furs and pelts and is rumoured to occasionally hunt down and kill wanted criminals for a price.

Noteworthy gear (Any magical items or trinkets):  Khaki wears mainly lightweight leather armour with a chainmail vest, he also wears a scarf wrapped around his head to conceal his face and protect from the cold.  Underneath his garments he wears a rare enchanted pendant that reduces the effect of most magic attacks against him at the cost of rendering him unable to use magic of any form.

Abilities(Magic/weapon abilities):  He is skilled with a bow and dagger but is unable to use magic due to the pendant he wears

Noteworthy skills: HIs pendant allows him to reduce the effectiveness of magic used against him, ie he can avoid being badly burned or see through illusions cast apon him. (although this requires a lot of effort and can quickly exhaust him) He is able to reload a crossbow quite rapidly and often adds poison to the tips of his arrows to further injure opponents.

Flaws or Weaknesses: He lacks any magic ability, has a debilitating fear of water and has few unarmed combat skills.

It's quite alright. I do a vast majority of my posting late at night when I'm at work, so days when we're busy my posts will probably get shorter. For now, though, loads of free time. ^^

Also! The boy from the first post is still alive and in the town, recovering from his fall. Khaki may know this, or the group could ask around and find out easily enough.

I'd like to join, if that's all right. If not, I totally understand. c:

Name:Camille Aelius
Age: 17
Species: Gray Jackal
Gender:Male
Class (Or general combat style): White Mage
Power Scale: Dueling: 2.2. When around many; 4.

Description: Camille is a 6'2"and slender gray jackal. His dark black hair is normally worn in several ornate braids, and he possesses a piercing blue gaze. Although rather lithe and nimble, the jackal often weighs himself down with divinely crafted robes; mostly dark blue, there are gray rose imprints upon his sleeves as well as rather small white gem-shaped beads along most of the robes' edges. The jackal wears boots and has the beads practically anywhere he can without making himself sound like a walking bag. Although he looks rather pompous, he has a rather cocky and playful attitude. Camille is very headstrong and is quick to grab the last word, and can be very brash in most situations. He is quickly annoyed and very spiteful towards those who wish to speak down at him.

History: The Aelius family is a family of aristocrats that have kept close to whatever rule they can find for at least a century now. Although they never actually attempt to seize a place of power, they are always there in the form of advisers or merchants to obtain and hold nobility. To nobody's shock, the family tends to be rather arrogant in their closed talks, however quite manipulative and very careful when the walls have ears. The jackals aren't fond of losing; and will keep what they have worked to achieve through any means of socialites or their magic. Among every generation of them, there would always be a single sorcerer in the immediate family. When that magic user died, it would pass to whoever the magic felt it should. The magic kept two attributes; life and light, however each user had a tendency to use magic in a different way.
Camille acquired his magic at ten, and is quite savvy with his tongue. Avoiding his family at all costs, he slithers through social opportunities quite quickly, but often messes up due to his hard head and blundering technique. Whether or not he means well depends on which grudge is first. He keeps around the lower class of his community, and keeps away from the richer areas of the local towns due to the fact that the lower class knows less of the Aelius than the upper class; thus making it easier for him to maneuver himself how he wishes.

Noteworthy gear (Any magical items or trinkets):
The beads on him are his main access to magic when not around 4+ living entities. Without them, he has to draw from his own life force to use magic.
He has a hood on his robe that is made of solidified light, however it was not his own magic that created it. He is able to manipulate it in the absence of light, and reform it. However, this takes more effort on his part.

Abilities(Magic/weapon abilities):
Camille's magic is fueled by the life force of those him. With three allies, the magic is practically costless to those around him(although limited by Camille's skill). Any costs are taken only from Camille unless an ally has willingly consented. In order for people to be allies, Camille they must show a regard for Camille's life. Even if they show a regard, those who resent Camille would not give as much as those who do not.

Life force manipulation:
-Camille is able to store the lives of his victims in his beads to fuel his magic, however because the life is taken by force, he is only able to use half what he could on a willing life.
-Camille is able to transfer life; although not past resurrection. He cannot heal a recipient without having a donation, and as before forced lives are worth less. Basically, a willing sacrifice could heal a mortal wound to a minor cut. It would take three forced lives to heal a mortal wound.
-He cannot sap the life force of something unwilling unless they are suppressed or unconscious. Even then, they have to be very weakened or close to death.

Light manipulation:
-Camille is able to solidify light. He is limited by the amount of light available.
-Camille is able to manipulate the solidified light; in terms of shapes and movements. Most frequently, he will shape light into hummingbirds and launch them at his opponents.
-The product of solidification depends on the light. White light is flexible, and can turn either metallic or cloth like. This also requires more energy to harvest. Red light comes out like a dirt or mud, but also takes less energy to harvest and manipulate.
-Every product requires Camille's energy to sustain its solidification. If he wavers and can no longer sustain, or simply gives up, the material will disappear in a flash of the light used to create it.

Noteworthy skills:
-Socialite. Camille is quite savvy with his tongue, and can obtain allies quite well due to his upbringing. He is also very good at manipulating and toying with those around him while keeping a caring facade, as well as barter.
-Natural stealth. Because of his coloration, he is naturally hard to see at night. Although he's not as quiet as an actual thief or rogue, he is able to run and hide very well at night once sight of him has been lost.
-Cheap shot. He's not afraid to hit the groin for a dishonorable blow.
-Learning. Camille is far from his full potential, and is still learning to use his abilities efficiently. He has done anything but mastered his magic.

Flaws or Weaknesses:
-Camille is very weak when caught out alone or against only one person. Anyone with basic combat knowledge would be able to overwhelm him alone, assuming he has not built a large supply of life force in his beads.
-His attitude often makes people resent him; which makes him able to draw less life force from them.
-He is easily provoked and annoyed, and will let someone get mortally wounded if it will appease his ego.
-Camille has a very hard time fighting inside and in the dark. He is strongest in moonlight(due to the moon's white light), but if it's a cloudy night or if he's locked in a dark room, he can only use his cloak.. Which doesn't contain enough to overwhelm opponents when combined with his lack of skill.
-He is almost completely reliant on being in the backline of the fight. He cannot fight hand to hand, and needs to stay as far back as possible to reach his full potential.
-Due to his life magic, necromancy and the undead naturally disgust and waver Camille, so his magic is weaker when he is around them.
-And with all this, he still tends to have a cocky attitude, and is easily annoyed into entering a headstrong approach; entering fights he can't win and has to flee from.

{It's been a while since I've roleplayed/designed a character. This was fun, but let me know if you need any modifications. I tried to make the terms as blatant as possible, but I was too busy being a nerd and enjoying myself so I may have just jumbled some things together B)}

Title: Re: Against the Night OOC
Post by: Drakeyboy on July 26, 2015, 02:36:28 PM
From what i can see you don't really need it. As long that you can write a good single paragraph you are fine.
Title: Re: Against the Night OOC
Post by: Eden-H on July 26, 2015, 06:43:59 PM
It is about the quality of what is written rather than quantity. Sometimes you need a few paragraphs to go through all of your characters actions, at least the ones that you feel the readers need to see or have the characters they are playing possibly perceive. Or maybe the length comes from them responding to certain people because they are rather talkative or beat around the bush before coming to their point.

In other instances you just need several strong sentences to convey an idea. In truth, the reason most of these come out so long--ignoring the posts interacting with NPCs or returning long distances back to the starting point--is that each writer is showing us what their characters actions are or what they may be thinking. As opposed to outright telling us 'X shuffled in discomfort. He did not like what was happening.'

All in all, it is about your character being who they are and showing us through their actions and commentary. When you know them, it makes it easier to give quality writing that may have grown in length, whether it was intended to be that long or not. Even the shortest posts made on there have been telling us a lot through minute actions and chosen wording, regardless if it was only four sentences.

Also, a small tid-bit: What helps me with getting into my character and showing rather than telling, much to some peoples detriment I imagine (my guy has a lot to say without actually verbalizing it!), is to turn on those videos on YouTube that are 'Hour Long Epic Music' or '6 HOURS PURE EPICNESS MIX - Best Of Epic Music X - X date - Mega Mix' or some form of white/pink/brown noise, possibly even rain, fire, and slow saxophone music on eternal repeat. They really help me get into his skin and give me something fantastic to write by; which in turn also makes me want to make the quality of what I have done just as good as the music I am listening to.

Cyril, my character's name is Xavier, not Xander. Every time I read that all I can think is Frisky Dingo. xD

Also! You guys have equal control of the monsters as far as the RP goes. Feel free to throw whatever you would like at the party. I don't want everyone to have to wait for my posts to react in combat, either. :)

Name: Neshar of the Shifting Shadows (More commonly known as Neshar Displacer Thief)
Age: 22
Species: Ocelot
Class: Thief/Shadow Dancer/: The character is not a spring chicken to combat, however he can not outclass other classes in pure head to head fighting. Instead, he resorts to acrobatics, thief tricks, cantrips, tools, teleportation, and dexterous skill to give him an edge in combat. In darker areas he’s much more dangerous.
Power Scale : 3.2 in Daylight, 3.4 Mid-day, 4 low lighting or at night, 5 in pitch black.

Description: A young male feline whom stands at the average height of 5’ 7”. His ears are curve upwards into a triangle, but rounds off before it can form a point. There are a number of small notches cut in his ears. A few from close calls from a blade, and a few from his ears being caught along sharp things. His fur is a mixture of grays with white and black markings lining the entirety of his body. His face is pointed, and characterized by eyes that gleams with a thief’s cunning mixed with an owls scrutiny. His whiskers forever curve forward at a soft and gradual angle. But it’s nearly invisible at a distance and easily up close. His hair is short and messy, but the feline makes an attempt to make sure that it’s flow stays behind his ears and thus keeping it out of his eyes.

His body is lithe, built with tight acrobatic muscles gained from years of tumbling in the streets, climbing castle and keep walls, and infiltrating the most dangerous of areas to complete his jobs. But make no mistake as his overall frame is fairly thin. And while it may be laughable in the daylight. The feline proves that he can use his size quite easily in battle too dodge, and minimize impacts on his body.

When the feline is not working, or is intending to blend in with society, he wears a light tan cotton tunic with fine embroidery near the collar, along the cuffs of the sleeves, and down the middle where it buttons together. His leggings are made of canvas, and are an earthly brownish color. Along his ears he wears a series of earrings and piercings. On his neck a loosely fitted leather collar. The collar holds small details, listing the feline as property of a Sergal General by the name of Valsh, in a distant empire. There is also a few glyphs running along the bottom edge with more information. The first detailing his trade as a scribe. The second lists a rank in which he takes commands from. And the third tells that the feline is allowed to travel to handle business. Of course there is no visible or hidden weapons on his body.

When the feline is in combat, or is working he sports a more substantial attire.  His leggings are gray thick canvas leggings with soft and flexible black leathers attached to the thighs and his Digi-grade shins. He wears a hardened leather vest on his torso, that sports and earthy brownish gray color. And while the vest offers no protection to his arms, it does protect his neck with a thick padded “Cowboy” collar. On his arms are thin black leather gloves that spans up his fore arms and are tied tight by laced string. The fingers are cut off. And both are equipped with lockpicks and other small tools a thief might need. Next, his boots. His boots are formed with black leather, and are designed to fit his dig grade legs. The boots are missing the hardened rubber, and instead uses a bit of padding to help him keep quiet, and allows the feline’s toes and claws to make contact with ground for grip. And then finally, his mask. The mask is what gave him the title “The Displacer Thief”. The mask is made of metal with a finish to keep it dull. It’s shape is that of a displacer beast’s skull. It goes over his head like a cowl, and has finer cloth and padding to make it more comfortable to the wearer.
Attached to his belt are a series of similar daggers. And strung up on his back is a shortbow with a series of arrows.
History: Hailing from the Tatola Desert, Neshar grew up in a land ravaged by warring Sergal Clans. The larger Sergals of the northern mountain ranges only a few miles away from Neshar’s home town, versus the southern Sergals whom roamed the majority of the desert. This meant that survival was difficult in general. Whether it be from family members being caught in the crossfire, or be a victim of war’s misfits. The feline had to learn how to survive on his own, this became even more critical when his hometown was finally burned to the ground, forcing the feline up the mountains where the front line would likely not follow.

He found himself in one of the major cities, now living on the streets, and stealing on a daily basis to ensure he survives. His skill progressively became better, and he began seeking out bigger targets. Stealing from nobles, garrisons, and his last target a keep. But eventually, his luck ran out. He was forced to flee with a patrol of guards after him. They continued to chase him, forcing him to try and hide in a cave system inhabited by oddly natured displacers. These creatures eventually coarse Neshar into fallowing them to an alter where he gained his affinity for shadow dancing. However this moment was shortly lived. The soldiers whom were chasing him had finally caught up to him and captured him. He was drug back to the Mistress of the Keep. The feared General Valsh. She was mildly impressed by the lad’s skill. And instead of killing him. She offered the boy an ultimatum. Become useful, and her personal slave. Or be marked as a spy and be publically executed. Naturally it wasn’t hard to make that decision. And now while Neshar may be a slave. His life is very peculiar. Most slaves would envy his position. He’s treated better than most. And damaging him could easily become a death sentence. And… while there are still some things that he has absolutely no control of with his mistresses free time, she does hold him for a major purpose. She sent him away to train with an elite group of infiltrators and scouts. Giving him some decent amount of martial training, but more importantly improve his skills as a spy, and thus as a thief. Afterwards he’s been primarily used to infiltrate enemy camps and keeps to sabotage equipment, gather intel. Just about everything outside of assassination. And on his own free time, he began to target major treasuries and castles, stealing for sport rather than survival. Eventually, the thief had earned himself quite a reputation in the underground. A very skilled thief. But a thief with a sense of honor, as he prefers to keep his jobs clean, and has a number of codes he follows.

Noteworthy Gear:
His collar is enchanted, permanently marking his status as a slave. And while it is labeled as Scribe/Servant. The Scribe is actually a front to allow him to blend into society.

His earrings are permanently attached. The only way to remove them is by removing the ears, or going to an artificer. Their function is only useful to the wearer and bears no outside effects. The earrings acts as both a gauge and a ballace for when he shadow steps. The plane in which he must steps through defies the natural laws placed in the earthly plane. Thus making it harder to tell distances, and orientations in space. The Gemstons in them stores permanent locations, and a return location. Thus allowing the feline to shadow step large distances... but only to very specific locations he's visited, or has a gem for.

Flaws and Weakness:

While the feline can see perfectly in the dark, that is with no source of light, and in low lighting settings. A bright light is blinding to him.

The feline can not go toe to toe against opponents whom are more combative than he. In which he is required on using his tricks and clever stratergies to take his opponents down.

The feline’s magic is weaker in well lit areas.

And then lastly. No matter what, the feline bleeds a trail of visible shadow aura, and the limb in motion will become slightly transparent with any swift or violent movements. This is a dead give away to his identity.

Abilities: Neshar is technically a cursed one. Having tampered with the old magic, and gained the lost secrets of a sect of mages often refered to as Shadow Dancers. A practice often popular with and most often practiced by master thieves and assassins. However, given that the magic is old and lost, there are still more techniques for the feline to discover, or adapt what he already has with time and practice.

Passive: The magic makes some small enhancements to the cursed one’s body, improving their reflexes and sight in the dark. Neshar is capable of seeing perfectly in areas with absolutely no light for a distance of a hundred twenty feet, but only in black and white. Those influenced by the magic will bleed out an aura with swift and sudden movements, as well as having the limb in motion go briefly transparent. Though this is a dead give away in many cases, Neshar uses this feature to his advantage with deft slight of hand, and dexterous feinting. Lastly, the magic becomes more reactive the darker it gets. In lower lighting settings, his eyes will begin to be washed out with a darkish purple aura, to the point where the aura is seeping out in whisps in complete darkness. While it admits no light… it is detectable to magic detection.

Shadow Step: Possibly what the Shadow Dancers are most well known for, and the origins of their nick name. Neshar quite literally dances between Shadows with graceful somatic acrobatic movements, which allows him to seemingly teleport between locations. But the reality is he’s stepping between dimensions using the shadows as a portal. While it is the quickest and hardest to predict, it’s major flaw is the requirement of shadows nearby. Another problem is that it’s difficult to determine distances without some sort of aid, and the laws of physics are not the same.

To bypass this, Neshar can apply his magic to an inert object, and use that as an anchor. Thus allowing him to teleport to the object. But there are a few rules to this as well. If the object is in motion, then he will adopt its speed and trajectory. Should the object end up in an area it shouldn’t, if the location is weak enough, it will be destroyed. If it’s not, then the anchor fails. The achor leaves a visible trail of magic in it’s path.

Summon Shade: Neshar can summon a sentient shade in the form of his own silhouette, with the same temperament as his own. He can communicate with it freely, as it can move about the world on it’s own. However, Neshar is not experienced enough to allow it to become thrilled. Thus the shade can not go to far away from him, nor does it hold a physical touch to the world.

Cloak: The feline creates a temporary invisibility cloak on himself. While cloaked, he makes no sounds... but the enviorment can be disturbed none the less if he's careless. The cloak is immediately lifted when his concentration breaks, usually by attacking.

Noteworthy Skills:
Clever - The feline is very observant and very clever. He can notice small details and patterns, and piece together hints and clues to greater riddles.

Disciplined - With a background in the military with a military based nation, and training in one of the elite special force regiments has amounted into a very disciplined thief. Although he might not act it, he can exercise the intense training behind a soldier to ignore some wounds, focus on priorities, steady his nerves, and even take risks without hesitation.

Loyal - It's not always true that there is no honor among thieves. For this thief does have some form of it. While his honor doesn't prevent him from groin shots, and eye gouging, it does prevent him from backstabbing his team.

Educated - despite his backgrounds as an alley cat. His mistress was very adamant about his education. And he couldn't argue any less, as it had made him quite effective. That being said, if he should ever loose a hand and have his career ended as a thief. He could always be a scholar or a bard with some uncanny knowledge.

Learning - Some might claim him to be a master thief. He prefers to just call himself a professional. He feels that there is still more to learn. Especially with his magic.

Here's the Desc of the hound that xavier sent me btw

The Hound of Lockwise
Power Scale: 8
Desc: Hound is only used loosely as an easy way to describe the monstrosity that is this creature. Six powerful legs support a  black, chitinous body, massive and muscular beneath the armor-like hide. The Hound has a somewhat boxy frame, likely why it is called a hound as opposed to a big cat. It stands nearly 30 feet tall, and almost as long, easily capable of crashing through a forest of trees if it so desired. The head consists of a squared jaw, that splits in the middle, opening into a toothy, 3-pronged maw. While closed the creatures face is just a black mass of armor, it's eyes comparatively small and beady, almost containing a malevolence of their own. Strangely the large paws of the creature are not clawed as you may expect, instead they have pairs of small spurrs on the heels, stingers of some sort. Even with its mouth closed the creatures tongue is generally hanging free, long and sinuous, and it will use this appendage much like a grappling arm to wrap up its prey. The creature does not have a tail.
Abilities: Can call for houndlings with a howl
Is supernaturally tough and vicious
Has corrosive saliva
Has spurrs on its heels that inject an extremely powerful paralytic compound

Houndlings
Power Scale: 3.5
Desc: Much like the Hound itself, these creatures are simply miniaturized versions of their mother. They stand about four to five feet tall and are around six feet long. The paralytic poison of these beasts is still potent, but not as much so as their larger counterpart. The largest difference is these beasts do not have corrosive saliva.

I'm posting pretty soon! Oh and for an explanation if needed! Rin opened a portal up just near Neshar's hiding place... so the hound barreled into him, thus knocking him out of it.

Sorry if the post looks jumbled. Was tired when I wrote it, and needed a good way to introduce your new party thief.

From what I read, isn't the actual hound still off in the distance and is currently 'attacking' the group through its houndlings? The bugger is said to be nearly 30 feet tall and long and far stronger than what we're facing as of the moment.
Title: Re: Against the Night OOC

No it did the initial attack. Unless someone said it left it's still around.

We will need Xavier to correct us, but from this last part in his post "Better still, only moments after the battle engaged, a booming roar echoed from not so far into the trees.", that makes me think the actual Lockwise Hound is not here yet. It was also said that the bugger who started/attacked Nemael was the size of a wolf.

This is why I need some clarification before I make my post. I feel like some stories are conflicting and I'm not sure what's attacking me because I feel like I can agree with both of you. I thought the big hound was on us from an initial attack, but I also read the booming roar in the distance as well.

This is always an unfortunate place to be in... Though Xavier did say we all had equal control over the monsters attacking so we did not have to wait on him for posting. Perhaps we could say that it is coming in now and that all of the houndlings are dead, aside from the one that was ported to Mort by Nemael and the one knocked out against the tree Khaki is at?

Title: Re: Against the Night OOC
Post by: Xavier Akafur on August 03, 2015, 03:45:02 AM
Oh, yes, the initial intention was that the big one was not engaged yet. Feel free to bring him into the fight on any of the following posts, though. There is still at least one houndling left on the field, that Neshar kicked away from himself.... unless Drake killed that one in his post. He did mention it was shot out of the air, but by what I'm not sure. That was the one Nemael initially was sending towards Mort via portal. I think there may be one more trapped against the tree by Camille, but stuck as it was Khaki is probably going to take it out quite easily.

Also, amusingly violent kill there Nemael! I enjoy hyper-violence immensely :D

Oh, and feel free to call your teams rogue out if you feel like your character can! A few holes in his story. The discarded well traveled long bow with no string. The only obvious sign of damage is his makeshift bandage, don't think a lot of peasants have decent first aid knowledge, especially a slave. Bow string is obviously cut in two places.

The Witche- Hunter might notice something off.

Course always the option to let time tell

Durp. Forgot one final bit. He also poured out a bit of mana. Not sure if anyone saw it, but if traces are detectable to you, that's there :P.

Besides Nemael! You can't blame him! A non-paranoid thief is usually a dead one! Especially one that stole from kings, nobles, aristrocats, Paladin Orders, cultist, ect. He's bound to have assassins or thugs looking for him!

Post Merge: August 04, 2015, 05:26:09 AM
*reads Xavier's next post*

Am I the only one who's thinking... tactical retreat? If the Wild Mage is second guessing himself, it's a good sign it's time to bail out and make some preperations to deal with him at a later time :P.

Plus, while Neshar is playing his slave card, he could do a bit of first aid on yall :P.
Title: Re: Against the Night OOC
Post by: Xavier Akafur on August 05, 2015, 09:19:25 AM
I wouldn't bail necessarily, we just need to figure out if anyone has an ability that could punch through heavy armor. Xavier is terribly ineffective against large, heavilly armored beasts unless he can find weak spots. His magic is kenetic-force based and he doesn't use weapons, so something of that size with that much armor probably would only be annoyed by him. Mort and Silas will probably have an easier time against him with their bladed weapons, and Drake has a spell arsenal, so something he has would probably be useful.

To be sure it's going to be a dangerous fight, but if it wasn't then what fun would that be? :3
Title: Re: Against the Night OOC
Post by: tangletail on August 05, 2015, 09:22:56 AM
Neshar does... he can telefrag the damned thing and blow it's skull open after plunging an anchored arrow in it's eye. But that's really messy... not to mention can prove nearly fatal if the creature is small. He won't do it much... as there's quite a bit of risk with reward... and... it's really... really messy.

Well there is usually weaknesses to every armor. And in this case it would be the joints and underside. If you are asking why just look at insects.

Oh and Cyril. The thief's location is on the creature's back. Unless the group is all on it's back. I don't think you can shield them both. Or really need to worry about the arrows as they aren't likely to fly in their direction.

Given your response and then Silas', I have more than enough to work with, ahah. Though Nemael will be virtually useless at this point since he has expended almost all of his energy.

Hah! That would be a sight. Though I think everyone is wary of the fact it constantly produces a corrosive acid in its mouth, so getting near that point would be borderline suicidal given its response to attacks on its fleshy bits. But hey! We do need someone to be a big goddamned hero.  ;)

I bloody love the fact your critter thought that.

Edit: The battle isn't taking too long for me. I honestly love when characters are thrown against something that uses every last bit of their will and wit. Not constantly for obvious reason, though I think it is a fun way to start out and have everyone get to know one another. Even grow bonds where none would have come into existence against an easy foe.

Good to know :) That is usually my intention with leading a group directly into something challenging. It allows me to gauge their characters strength as well as their style of roleplay (willingness to work as a team and how they handle being outmatched) right off the bat.

With that being said, good job Mort. I'm glad somebody went for the kill xD

Nemael, not sure where you were going with the apothecary being shady, but if you want to pull this out into an ongoing plot feel free. I love when the other players introduce story elements that I didn't obviously lead them into :3

Makes sense. To be frank, my character turned in a completely different direction than what I had initially intended due to that monstrosity! I also made him a lot wee bit less knowledgeable on how his magic works. y u do dis

Anyway, thank you Mort for making the killing blow and turning it into such an amusing scene! I look forward to seeing how everyone responds to your... offer.

As for the apothecary, I will be sending you a PM about that! Beware of possible rambling. I have no idea what my brain is going to tell me to write out quite yet.

Haha, to be fair it made all of our rather powerful characters probably feel a bit meek in comparison. I know a few posts with Xavier I was sitting there scratching my head, like... I can't hurt it. It was one of those rare scenarios where both offensively and defensively he was just not strong enough, or well-equipped enough to be useful. Maybe traveling with this party may actually prompt him to pick up a weapon, or some kind of magic item for big beasties like that. Should be interesting :3

I gave Camille very open ends on his powers.. I wasn't sure what I wanted to do in the beginning to be honest.
So then I just said, "screw it, I'll become a wall." As we continue to go on, I'm trying to think of what Camille can actually do, which fits because he's not fully aware himself.

But I'm also trying to avoid hitting godmod, so during the next fight(assuming one happens), I'm going to make him take a heavy blow to his ego.
Oh, and himself.

Yes, godmode characters are no fun to have around, but I would not consider Camille a likely candidate for that title. So far he seems one of the most balanced of the group. Super useful as a healer, since we have no others with healing magic capable of doing much beyond minor wound treatment. :)

Post by: Drakeyboy on August 11, 2015, 11:21:42 AM
Yeah for Drake the only reason why he is up in power is because if you can't hit what's attacking you it's most likely going to get you. Drake doesn't have much offensive range power but up close he tears people apart. As you can probably tell XD. Coupled with his low mana pool he actually has to be pretty careful.

I'm sorry, but some bad personal circumstances have come up, that I would rather not describe on here. Again, I apologize, but I'm going to have to take a leave of absence from this Role play. It's a really great one and I regret not being able to keep up with it, but I have to leave, at least for a bit. Sorry, all.

Oh, well that's a bit of a problem, eh? Just let us know when you're feeling better!

And Silas it's cool, if you get things sorted just let me know, we will keep a spot open for you.

In the mean time, I guess what's the vote for accepting more people to just staying with our smaller group? Even with both of our trackers out of commission we still have six people.

The thief is not a in your face fighter :p.  He is more close to GW2 Where they catch you off guard and melt you. Or work groups down with tools, tricks, and Damage over time.

No problem. I thought if there was anything wrong with my post as per usual, you could tell me to edit and I would.

I try to balance Mort out, though he's more useless when there's ice magic in use, or heavy vibrations. As for voting I'd say that we should stay closed that way if they do come back it won't be too crazy with the amount of people we'd have.

I am inclined to agree with Mort as well. It would also be fairly easy to think of and write an IC reason (on our parts) as to why both of them are away; e.g Khaki overseeing Silas and taking him to a proper healer. That way they could easily catch up if they decided to return and not be left floating in a void

Edit: Sorry for the shoddy post. Been exhausted mentally and physically the past few days. e-e

Yall will see Neshar back in town dressed up as a slave once more. He really doesn't have a reason to stick around them for much longer as he hadn't officially joined the group.

For those who wanted to track him.

The destroyed highway men camp is not an attempt at intimidation. Just him trying to loose you on a well beaten ground and road.

For those who investigate the bodies. The way a lot of them died were a bit unorthodox for a regular "Big Damn Hero". The Highway men looked more like the sort who worked off of intimidation rather than force. Not a lot of them have rough hands signalling they had some form of training.

Really only two were killed by fatal wounds from daggers. Several had died from bleeding out with arteries recieving multiple quick slashes. A few had been killed with different weapons. But a quick inventory check will reveal that the feline had literally been disarming or killing weaker opponents, and using their weapons against more difficult or heavily armored targets.

There are thick patches of caltrops scattered about. Blood signals that they had been stepped in. Some had a powdered mix of peppers located on them. And only one was missing their head... wasn't a clean cut. Likely a lob.

Bodies are spread out, with deep boot gouges in the dirt. The feline kept moving erratically, kept them spread out, and worked them down.

I think with both of our trackers currently out of commission there might not be anyone left who can track Neshar. Xavier certainly isn't skilled in tracking creatures, unless they leave an obvious trail.

And yes, I was leaning that way as well. We'll stick with out current group, and hope they come back when they are able :)
Title: Re: Against the Night OOC

Camille doesn't care enough to track him. Not as skilled as the other two, he still can do so via critical thinking.
Plus if he enters a certain range, he can feel the presence of a person/thing that was once allied to him. Although not the exact location, he can feel its near.

Also, if Camille and Namael get into some beef and have some good old fashion school girl drama, don't take it personal Namael. The show must go on B)

Neshar's mistress, "Neshar? Neshar?! NESHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAR!"

Oh, no worries about me taking it personally. I love realistic group dynamics and when two characters have completely opposing views. It makes for interesting character development in the right doses and when written properly.

I also needed that laugh, tangletail. That was fantastic. <3

I feel silly for noting this as well, but I just wanted to say I may be a bit sporadic in responding since it seems the posts are getting a little faster paced (though I could be completely off in that regard). Ah, so I wanted to just put it out there that while I have been hashing out the next plot-hook with some people over PMs that everyone is welcome to introduce plot elements at will. In fact, I encourage it. I like everyone to have a say in what the group will do next! Don't worry though, if that concerns you, there are story threads in play already. So we are not posting aimlessly, so to speak. If you have any ideas that you want to ask about, feel free to post here or PM me :D

Also Mort, our characters will have to have some direct interaction in the tavern, they haven't really even spoken to each other yet. xD I'm sure they'll probably get along great, though. They both fancy hitting things really hard.

I'm a day late, but better late than never, I suppose. I'm not sure how you want us to play out the collection - I left opportunity for you to talk if you'd like Drake. Are we to come up with what happens or are you to play any NPCs we encounter, Xavier?

I would encourage people to play any NPC they want to play, though I can certainly fill any gaps or roles as needed. Basically my idea is to let you guys drive the plot how you want it, and I'm filling in the blank spaces. I have a general idea in mind but I'm pretty adaptable to changes in the story.

Reminds me a lot of some really good DnD campaigns and comics. Usually the characters aren't all that serious, and tend to behave a bit immaturely no matter the situation.

I don't know what the orb is, so I turned it into a weapon. I was implying Camille was joking by saying he was more dangerous with it, and that mages would be able to exploit it because magic is very flexible and adaptive; so basically Camille could hit someone over the head with it. But if you want it to actually be an artifact, I'm down. As for the lord, I don't know if discussions have been turned to make him a villain, but if so I tried to give something of a possible motive.

I should actually step it up and start communicating more since hurr durr #aristocratswag so if it has anything to do with lords/kings of the kingdom, Camille's techincally supposed to know about it(but I've been too lazy communicate).

Apologies for not having responded yet. I have lost the inspiration to work with Nemael and I have been working on another character who is the POV MC for a series I am writing. I have also been taking care of my parents since my dad recently got out of open heart surgery to replace his aortic valve and fix the mitral valve. So I have been handling that as well as taking care of my mum when she gets home from her long days of work, cleaning around the house, cooking dinner, getting their morning and night medications ready, etc. Then I wind up using what little time I have left to work on my universes lore and the actual story itself.

I realize the length of this message would already be near long enough for one of my normal postings on the thread, but as mentioned, I have not had the time or desire to do so. By that last part I purely refer to using Nemael; I absolutely love the RP as it is now and wish I could actually get up the desire to write something out. *sighs*

Thank you kindly and that is quite true. I think I may opt for the latter as well. Nemael's typically morose, slightly secretive and debbie downer vague way of acting is not what I want to work with given the aforementioned in my prior post. I hope that does not seem silly?

That said, should I put up a new application with this critter and then join in again?

Apologies for being so vague and loose with her history as well as for any inconsistencies. When I wake up tomorrow, I will read back over it and fix it as needed (if there winds up being a need for it), though the basic information will remain the same. It will likely just be worded slightly different if it seems to be required.

Name
: Silverwing

Age: 32

Species: Samsara

Gender: Female

Class: Ranged/Shift mage* (see abilities)

Power Scale: 4.4

Description:
Silverwing stands a head taller than Nemael, making her impressive stature slightly unnerving when the viewer is forced to look up at the sharp point of her beak. Fortunately she can almost always be seen with a friendly expression, her long, pointed ears often held slightly aloft in what some may consider an ever-felt excitement. However, this is quickly made disconcerting by the fact that 3/4ths of the way down her ears they are encased in metal with two spikes; one point at the end and another a few inches down and facing inward. From the bottom offshoot hang three beads with a single, relatively large teardrop attached to them.

The severity of her appearance is further enhanced by the distinctive feather crest adorning her head from the middle of the forehead back. Some think it may function as a sign of her mood; others think it simply has a mind of its own. To top it all off, she has no discernible pupils, her heterochromatic eyes appearing to resemble varying nebula's on a completely black base. Every time she turns her eyes or looks elsewhere, the star patterns and placement of color shifts with them.

From the head down, the back of her neck, shoulders, mid-way down her arms and the sides of her rib cage are covered in a poof of feathers that almost looks like the fur ring on a coat. Beyond this unusual aspect of anatomy, her chest is divided into what appears to be two distinct and separate pairs of pectorals, in reality a cleverly developed keel. The top 'set' supports her massive wings and the bottom her arms.

Her wings are strangely similar to Nemael's in that they consist of six leathery, divided fingers with a coating of feathers on the back. However, unlike his own, the membranes appear to be shaped and edged similarly to that of a lunar moth, even including the tassels that hang from their wings near her body. An unfortunate addition is what appears to be round hooks that have been pierced into her wings, matching the loops attached to thick strips of cloth around her biceps. The leather has purposefully been forced through the membrane that connects the divide between her wings and body, allowing them to be attached to her arms when deemed necessary.

The membrane covering the gap between her body and wings is relatively thin, rounded and covering her side from the hip up. It specifically connects to her arms at the junction between where the large feathers adorning them end near the bicep, making her appear like a hybrid between a microraptor and a flying squirrel; at least where her arms and torso are concerned. Scaly hands peek out from the feathers when they are folded inward for writing or gesturing.

The rest of her body is relatively simple, covered in a fine coat of feathers that goes all the way down to her feet. Some may consider her similar to an owl in this regard as they go over her toes; yet they almost appear to be cut, giving them a sharp and angular look akin to carefully trimmed fur. Fortunately this does not impact her usage of all four of her toes; three of which are set normally while the fourth is attached more to the side, creating what some may consider an anatomical crutch that allows her to walk, run, and grasp things with ease. Great consideration was also given to the magical cuffs that adorn her legs, reshaping to fit around armor and clothing as required as well as removing any impact on her capabilities and never once disturbing her feathers.

Lastly, her tail feathers are long and bear a similarity in shape to that of the swallowtail butterfly.

History:
Silverwing worked as the lead aerial recon scout for the Samsara, a species who primarily existed on the side lines during a civil war between several other races. Initially they only observed the conflict and offered shelter to those who were harmed by the fighting. They were dedicated to skirting the edges of the war and refraining from participating. Not only did they not consider either side to be inherently 'right', they did not see them as being a force of change for the betterment of the people. However, even with the Samsara's vocally chosen stance on the politics of what was occurring, Silverwing eventually found that she could not simply stand aside and watch as civilians were slaughtered. Thus her work was two-fold, allowing her to uncover planned enemy strikes and razes as well as preventing unnecessary bloodshed, safely ferrying those in danger to Samarian lands. It also allowed her to aid those she considered the lesser of two evils, albeit by a slim margin.

Although she would never admit it, there was another reason as to why Silverwing joined: She was being plagued by nightmares of a country and people she cared for turned to ash because she was too stubborn and foolish enough to follow in her peoples footsteps.

As time continued to pass and the civil war raged on, she continued to perform her duties as required--until a foolish mistake led to her being caught by enemy forces. While she will not speak of what occurred, they renamed her to Silverwing and even created a slogan that would follow her to this day: False Hope comes on Silver Wings. Unfortunately this occurrence was common, for every high-ranking prisoner they captured was subsequently broken, renamed and turned into living propaganda. This tactic would eventually turn the tide in favor of those she opposed and win the war for them, as well as their other taboo methods.

A few years after the final declaration of their total control, she would meet Nemael and escape through his clever usage of portals. Where once she had been trapped by guilt, the overwhelming feelings of the Samsara and the people, a false sense of duty and even esoteric magical means, he had given her a clean way out that she was incapable of not accepting. She would even remain by his side for a time and eventually meet Dragonhawk, learning about the world at large and understanding there was a greater conflict that required her attention; one that would eventually change her home country for what she believed was the better.

Noteworthy gear:
Carries a pocket watch at all times, rarely stowing it in a pouch suspiciously similar to Nemael's. When out, she will typically wrap the chain around her fingers or part of her wrist. There is also a strip of cloth with a ring pierced through a portion of her wings, matching those on her arms; typically used as clips. Uses a hand-made bow, yet carries no arrows or even modified bolts. And like Dragonhawk and Nemael, she too wears a key of similar design to their own.

Abilities:
Samsara is both the name of the species and a title. In their tongue, it means 'Waking Dreamer', directly correlating to the capabilities every last one has, while not accounting for the unique magics they may develop. Strictly speaking, the entirety of the species shares memories and emotion with one another while maintaining their unique personalities. Openness and truth are the tenets of her people, thus she is always 'open' and affected by the emotions and thoughts of those around her. When someone says that a person is radiating fear, in her case it is a literal and physical thing. She does not simply feel it; she experiences it fully depending on how strong it may be. Another ability all Samsara have is melding with a target entity; though it is not nearly as ominous as it sounds and comes in two forms. The first is a flash access, in which they temporarily gain the abilities of the person they have connected to. This may increase their agility, heighten certain senses, make them better capable with a ranged weapon when they are strictly a melee fighter, etc. However, it lasts a few minutes at best and is used in extreme cases, typically seen as a last resort maneuver. It can be used within a short distance of the intended target.

The second is essentially full access. Not only will she gain the skills of the person in question, she will also gain access to their emotions, thoughts and memories; the latter of which is experienced and explored during a dream state. She can visit moments in the past and even change the way events played out; though this is not remotely warping or actually changing reality. The effect of her presence will only last so long as she is asleep and will immediately dissipate as soon as she wakes; essentially an alternate reality that collapses in on itself and will never continue to exist. Thus what she experiences during her time in a persons memory may not consist of the actual events; though there is always a truth to them that she is meant to learn. She may only perform this ability either through physical contact or when in extremely close proximity with the person in question. Both can be forced and done without permission from whoever she needs to obtain these abilities from, though she will never take this route.

*The above aside, the ability she has personally developed and maintained is thanks to her relationship with Nemael and having fully accessed his mind numerous times. While she is not remotely capable of the same magics that he employs, even if she desperately wishes she could, Silverwing has learned how to harness the wild nature of the Shift and turn them into intense arrows of energy. She is also capable of communicating with the Shifts spirits, seeing into their realm and even entering it. The latter is typically done while in a dream or meditative state as it is safer and less likely to cause physical harm, though it can be done physically. Unlike Nemael who can open rifts that allows multiple people to go through, only she can pass in and out of the Shift through her own miniature tears. She is also capable of the simplest Shift-magic possible: recreating the memory of torches, small pathways and other minutiae.

Noteworthy skills:
Quick and light on her feet, she is incredibly agile both on the ground and in the air; the latter being her preferred realm of combat. Do not mistake this as meaning she is not competent when it comes to one-on-one melee fights, however; she knows how to use her bow in an offensive manner that requires being within the range of fisticuffs. She will also happily turn the arrows into piercing or bladed crossbow bolts that she will slash or stab at her attacker with, fending them off until she can get to a range that better suits her normal combat style.

Flaws or Weaknesses:
Flash access to a persons abilities can momentarily cause her to freeze in place as the effect of the transition takes hold, leaving her vulnerable to attack. The short lived nature of this skill also poses a problem when she needs it to last much longer in a fight. Flash and full access can also only be done once before being utilized again. The former takes little time to come back from, while the latter can last days and sometimes even weeks. Thus when one variant has been used, the other cannot be employed until, again, the period of time required has passed. This can also be incredibly disorienting, for she may take on a physical aspect that lasts as long as the skill that has been used. For example, she is incredibly light weight and swift on her feet. If she tapped into someone who was the opposite, she would immediately become used to this new skill set as she would also be making use of their muscle memory. Once it wore off, however, she would have to become used to her original capabilities again, which can take anywhere from a minute to an hour. Accessing and using the memories and skills of another who do not share her own throws her mind completely off; though she can still loose energy bolts from her bow with relative accuracy.

Another downside comes from the way her species and society works. Since they function on honesty, openness, the free sharing of memories and experiences as well as emotions, she is constantly under 'threat' of being negatively effected by someone nearby. For example, if she walked into an inn where many people stood in close proximity to her, she may be overwhelmed by the sheer strength of the emotions they are experiencing or even adopt them for a time. If someone is angry, she may suddenly share this feeling and even feel slightly compelled to fix the issue; whether it comes in the form of revenge or a heated conversation with the offender. Of course, without experiencing their exact memory of why they are furious, she can become slightly lost in the moment. Fortunately she is actively working on curbing this unfortunate circumstance, only bearing moderate success due to the tenets and belief system all Samsara share.

To deal with Mort, whoever was tailing him can return with the cash and claim that he had something come up and took his leave?

That would be my recommendation. Also I think that brings us down to 5 players, 6 if Silas is still around.

Also that character seems fine to me, Nemael. :D

It does indeed. Should the RP be re-opened this time, given Mort's post on leaving the forums and the possibility of Silas missing? Or stick to what we have like before?

As for the character, fantastic! I'll whip up a post for her once I am done doing some things around the house.

I don't think it really matters. You can make the exit post from what i can see.

And a second note. Where is everyone? I don't really want to read through all that text. Also i'm going to need to warm up a bit to get back to the level you guys are doing. I haven't been RPing in a while.

If I recall correctly, Xavier is in the tavern with Nemael and Silverwing (about to post). Your character is walking with Mort to collect the bounty on the Hound. Cyril's character is with Tangletail inside of the inn off of the tavern and Silas was last finishing a brew after purchasing some herbs from a merchant. As for Khaki, we're pretending he is off somewhere in the village since his player is currently gone.

If you are considering switching characters that is fine with me, Nemael isn't writing for two characters though if that's what you were thinking. I think he is just hopping onto an alt, so to speak. His title character isn't fitting his writing mood, which I entirely understand. Plus having a character that isn't a mage may be wise, as we're currently pretty magic-heavy.

But! Now would be a good time to swap if anyone wants to switch characters around. I'm more than open to the idea when we're in a setting like the current one where other PCs walking into the plotline would make sense. For future rules I would just say that any time we're in a civilized area, feel free to hop on alternate characters. Just make sure to post a CS and let us know over here, just in case there would be some issue. You guys all seem to be quite competent writers so I doubt there would be any issues :)

I'm not currently going to switch but it's something that I may do down the line, as Xavier is a somewhat static character and sometimes I like being more dynamic. That's the issue with the old experienced PCs, they can't improve much in the short-term.

Tangle; I'm waiting for at least three people to put posts before I do. Note that if like 3 people post in 24h I might miss it because work.
I just don't want to jump too far ahead of everyone else, you see.

As for Mort.. I think he could be dropped by Drake's character stating that he split off on his own. It'd make sense if he just wanted his portion of the cash reward.

Title: Re: Against the Night OOC

Well i can play multiple character's without a problem and with the group mostly thinned out i don't think it would be much of a problem. But we are going to need to find a place that is more civilized, Like a castle town, for her to jump in.
Title: Re: Against the Night OOC
Post by: Xavier Akafur on September 08, 2015, 04:36:46 AM
I just don't generally advise anyone to play two characters at a time, because if you need to take a break it can be a lot more disruptive. Plus there may be other people who would like to join. If the character variety needs a boost we'll open up the LFG, and then if we don't find anyone you could play a second character.

Speaking of, do you guys want to open the group up to one or two applicants? Personally I am indifferent, more people means more interesting character relations... but it does slow things down a little.

I really like the interaction between Camille and Neshar just for the fact that both of them are really shifty characters, because of how they talk. Camille is shifty in nature, where as Neshar is just because of the whole thief and social awkwardness. Although, I'm not sure if I should return the insinuations because the ratings, plus Camille would probably look over the statements as a character, if not just smirk and confirm them.

Apologies for the late response, work and parties been keeping me busy. Also, mind if someone can PM/post where the plot is headed, or if I could have any input in it? I'm just not sure where I should go with it, and I actually do want to have an effect on the plot B)

We should probably just post all the information here for the time being. I'm about head to bed, but I'll get to it soon xD I'll add some tidbits for now.

For starters we have determined that the Lord who lives in the town/village is somehow involved, Neshar recovered some sort of key from him.
The apothecary was acting really shady earlier and is now overjoyed about the Hound being slain.
The Hound for some reason was not attacking the village directly but was lurking in the woods at a distance it probably should have at least once.

Neshar is just a really open and oddly honest Thief :P, more akin to those you find in Dungeon and Dragon campaigns. Though, you can continue with the insinuations, or innuendos. The Serious board is mostly PG13, but PG13 today is far worse than what we got going here.

And to continue on with information.

An exert from the letters Neshar Read.
Mayheu: "Esteemed friend, I do wish to inquire as to what you would have me do with this Orix?"
Forjmeir: "Ah, the sphere? It is a shame we have such a fine key, but no lock with which to use it. Keep it with you, as you are nearest to the Temple. If the way becomes open, you will be the quicker of us to reach it."

The letters also mention that a fairly recent group of hunters died fighting this creature, and on them they had some fine magical weapons.

Had to re-read my PMs to gather up all the info.

Additionally me and Nemael were talking much earlier about the plot through PM. We came up with the idea that the Hound was (either intentionally or inadvertently) guarding the ruins of an ancient temple that housed a relic of considerable power. Several forces were at play in attempting to gather said powerful artifact. Force one is the group itself, either through fate or some other means they gathered in a large enough force to bring the beast down. The question is if they are all here of their own free will, or is that simply a ploy in itself?
Ex: Xavier's lead on this artifact may have been staged to get him to come here and get rid of the guard dog, so to speak.

Force two is a cloak and dagger style organization with unknown motives. they seek the artifact for themselves, but whether to do good or evil is in question. That is the tie in for the Lord and his cohorts.

The third is a separate force made up of some of the villagers who are in the know, and wish to have the power for themselves, mostly so that they can make sure no evil overlord shows up to enslave them. Apothecary is perhaps involved here.

The fourth would be any other treasure hunters or sinister entities that may be lurking about. Power of this magnitude tends to attract attention. This group is essentially who Xavier is trying to prevent from getting the artifact.

EDIT: Opened up a looking for more thread to get us some new blood. We'll take a vote once we get a few applicants on who to take in. ^^

Also it's worth noting that I am imposing some of my home-rules for fantasy settings on the world. Rules some of the other characters may be aware of. Here's most of the important notes for the current story.

Magic puts off a sort of radiation that attracts monsters and destabilizes the laws of physics, so to speak. It takes very long-term exposure to high amounts of magic to cause these effects to be noticeable, only the strongest of magics creating these effects quickly. So the fact that this artifact is attracting monsters like the Hound means it is greatly powerful. This is a rule to sort of explain the reason for why old ruins and dungeons are often populated with monsters and the like.

Some monsters of great power, or extra-planar creatures like demons and elementals can actually be sustained or even empowered by exposure to this radiation. Dragons also fall into this category, which is why as they age and lay across their hoards of treasure they grow in power and size.

Sorry about the delay, was waiting on Namael's post.
Plus life has been happening, and I've found myself on a note of heartache/business due to my dog's disappearance and my work.

I'm open to pursuit/ambush by other fellows, and I'm also open to a boring walk to the remains of whatever Neshar did earlier. If the former happens, I'll bring up some lovely BS about how Camille is valuable due to his place as a potential political power because plot thickening.
I'm not sure if I want to make his motives on the righteously just aspect or to chime into powerlust.
Like.. He could be the good dude and be like "yeah nobody should have this" or he could be the other dude and be like "Yo, its time to harness this."

I'm trying to make him a bit shifty, but I don't really know what I want to do with him at this rate because being a fair antagonist against 4 people is hard.

Leo's more of a loyal Government agent. If the item is not that dangerous, but is useful he might be willing to just nab it and bring it to his mistress.

If it's too dangerous, he'll be thinking of preservation, and will rather it's destruction or general inexistence.

Neshar is there, and he's far less intoxicated and seemingly less confrontational. He could drag them back  if that's where you want to go with it. Also at this point its fairly late in the night and nobody has rested after a fairly epic battle earlier in the day. Camille may realize he's too exhausted to fight a group of random strangers in the dark.

Or you could always go Ham. I am a firm believer in ham. xD

Title: Re: Against the Night OOC
Post by: tangletail on October 20, 2015, 03:37:06 AM
So... Neshar's predicament :P

1.) Mission is technically to investigate. Not explicitly retrieve. Secondary orders are to decide what to do once the investigation phase is complete. Three mercenaries, two confirmed with some magic that can ellude the feline's enhanced vision, and natural hearing ability have just shown up in front of him telling him to go home. Obviously they have some interest in what's in the area, and letting them do as they please is a failure. Though... high risk to take a shotgun approach. And after seeing their abilities, chance of failure if he tails them silently. Now even though Neshar is incredibly dangerous in the dark, with the Shadow Dancer abilities enhancing him, he's unsure of the other's skill level... and they're already intimidating by apperance. But... the mage beside him shown he was still capable... even while tripping over himself.

2.) His innate odd sense of loyalty for a thief want's him to get the drunken mage out of there. Mostly out of worry. This will likely get him executed... or worse... scolded by his mistress for letting this becoming the reason of a mission failure.

Though... Neshar does have his own bag of tricks :P . Plus he didn't go nuts in the fight, if the group were watching him... then he can still catch them by surprise. I'm thinking... it's time to go ham.

What do you say to going ham?

Side note, yes he views scolding as worse than death :P. He kinda views the general as a mother.

Title: Re: Against the Night OOC

So i took a looked and to be truthfully honest none of them really fit the group per se. Celestial isn't RPing currently so you don't have to worry about him. But as for everyone else these are my reasons.

Calaiuryon: we already have two stealth characters. Myself with my illusion magic and our shadow dancer. And she doesn't have really anything else besides the potion making which could be useful.

Willow: she is apparently a flat potion healer. Because of all our mages that is kinda unnecessary. Her backstory is also interesting but it doesn't seem like she would go on a adventure because of it. Unless she makes other potions besides healing i'm going to say no.

Dustin: he is the closest one that i would say yes. Good drive for a adventure good backstory for a interesting character but he's a marksman. We already are pretty much all range. All he is is range.

We need some run of the mill knights more than anything really.

Title: Re: Against the Night OOC
Post by: tangletail on October 21, 2015, 06:53:46 AM
To Drakey...

It's fine if there is another stealth character. Keep in mind that each one of them actually has their own archetype and functions.

Neshar: The Shadow Dancer: Has absolutely no aggressive spells. Can hide effectively without the need of magic. He's a thief with military training. But he's still a thief. He can steal, hide, sneak, and tumble. Find and disarm traps. Scout, and follow. But direct confrontation isn't his thing. His weapons are daggers, a bow and arrows, and gadgets. He is better off in a fight against a group, where he can make use of the chaos and confusion than he is in one on one. He's constantly moving, deflecting, stealing weapons and using them against opponents. If his opponent is well prepared to handle him, he's screwed.

The illusionist: More of a mage heavay arcane trickster. He's a glass cannon with a long reload time. And his illusion magic really can't compensate for heavy foot steps, and moving brush. But it can move people out of a sticky situation.

As long as the next stealth character has a unique style it's fine.

Flat potion healer. Magic is not normally better than a potion in general. Magic can stitch wounds back together which is great for a fix up. But diseases, curses, restoring lost blood and energy? Different story. Not to mention there is the old moniker that naturally healing is generally better than a hurried one.

Plus potions also provides other benefits. Poisons, oils to coat blades. Specialized bombs. And boons.

THe marksman. Honestly. He can easily be the close quarters guy if he has gun-kata.

Neshar  does sort of fit the knightly role... sort of. His current weapons won't work for it. :P But if people get as friendly as to ask for some background... then maybe they will learn that the Sergal army's default weapons are...

However... they suck with projectile weapons because of the position of their eyes. So... it's kinda a boon that Neshar knows how to use a bow. But not a gun.

Leo could train one of the new characters through their adventure :3. Not to steal. But to fight.

I understand. ^^

As for input on the situation, I would have to say Dustin and possibly Willow, though I will admit the latter makes me feel a tad uncomfortable due to their history. That said, I think Dustin's character would round out the party beautifully and I love the thought of introducing an alternate civilization; one that is based more around technology than the current fantasy elements we have going on. As for Tempest/Willow, having someone who can make potions of a large variety would be extremely useful and easily fill the hole created with Silas' departure, so long as his OC would have been willing to share, haha.

Though if I had to choose between the two, I would hands down say Dustin.

You know what tangle i never really thought of it that way. But i still have to argue against the the marksman thing. It specifically states that he uses flintlock weapons. Not very useful for gun kata unless he has a tone of pistols.

And because of that light i'll have to put my vote on either Dustin or Willow.
Title: Re: Against the Night OOC
Post by: tangletail on October 21, 2015, 07:47:28 PM
Have you played guild wars 2? The thief's usage of the flint-locke pistol is just devastating. She can somehow rapid fire dual-wielded flintlocks. I'd imagine that is limited to someone with some really good slight of hand however.

Now here are my opinions about the options.

Drago - I have a few issues with it, and it's really mostly logical and bias. I typically don't like the Master of All approach. There are a LOT of weapons and variations of said weapons each with a specific function and purpose. Like how a broad sword might have rivots closer to the hilt. It's function was to shake the opponents weapon severely enough that it'd loosen or force the weapon to creep about in their grip. And the sword breaker dagger, which has combs on the back of the knife to catch blades, and break thin ones. I'm fine with a Jack of all trades... but mastering one weapon will take years of effort.

The dark and broody bit is the one I am biased against. Only because I have seen it a lot in my years of RPs. It's interesting to see it on a warrior, I'll admit that... because I've usually seen it on rogue like characters like a rogue isn't allowed to be jovial.

I like Cala. She has a good background. And if she's going the full assassin route, then there might be some conflicts between her and Neshar (As in she's professionally an assassin. Or holds no real value over life). Character wise that is. Neshar does not like assassins, and often openly makes fun of the "White Cloaked Bastards" for a number of reasons. With her, it'd be more like two full stealth characters. And one pseudo (illusion might not turn you invisible, it might just disguise you as a tree :P)

I also like Willow. She's a more utility character, which means she might need to hang back far more than most of the mages in the group :P. But potions are always fun, not to mention potions of transmutation! Beware of Dova-Bear!

I'm not sure about the marksmen yet.

Do you know how to reload a flintlock weapon tangle? First you need to replace the wick if you have been using it a lot, then gunpowder packing it right after with a fabric stopper on top, then the ball with another stopper over top. Now unless you have plenty of pre made shots which were actually thought up much later that process usually takes about a minute. That's kinda why pirates had multiple pistols on them so they could shoot and pick up another pistol right away.

Either way he said he was a rifleman so this WHOLE discussion is kinda pointless. XD
Title: Re: Against the Night OOC
Post by: tangletail on October 21, 2015, 08:05:24 PM
I know how to reload a flint lock :P. But in an RP where we are dominated by mages. Lesser characters might need spell like abilities to avoid being redundant. By spell like ability. It means that they use a trick or training to emulate something impossible.

I don't think anyone knows. People just come and go on forums.

As for new people, I think Dustin has also not returned since he posted that character sheet. However both of the others are still around. My vote is for Cala, primarily due to Willow's backstory getting under my skin. I like brutality but not of that variety. Otherwise I think each character would fit equally well into the group and I haven't noticed a huge disparity between their writing abilities.

So I think that puts the vote at:
Cala-1
Willow-2

There's always the option to bring them both in if we wanted as well. I thought we would have more applicants given that this thread appears to be one of the only high-activity RPs on the forum right now.

I would say Cala as well. I read back over Willow's sheet and I still cannot get past their, ah, history. Even if the overall abilities of the character would be useful, I genuinely do not think I could (personally) handle posts where that came up or was mentioned ICly.
Title: Re: Against the Night OOC

Likewise.

So then with Nemael's change of vote that swings it entirely the other direction xD

Willow-1
Cala-3

I used it because given Camille's defensive magic and healing, I'm probably going to play him as a front liner now.. Mostly because he likes to make a giant wall in front of himself.
I've heard of tanky mages, but rarely tanky assassins.
More drama incoming
Title: Re: Against the Night OOC
Post by: Xavier Akafur on November 18, 2015, 04:28:32 AM
Xavier is also pretty resilient, not nearly to the level of Mort or Silas but he's not a glass cannon. Given the current status of the group, though, I think everyone will need to hold their own in case the formation breaks xD

I've been playing a lot of D&D so my brain is like. "Form a tight ball, protect healers."
Title: Re: Against the Night OOC
Post by: tangletail on November 18, 2015, 02:30:07 PM
Neshar is more so based off of Guild Wars's Thieves rather than DnD. Those guys aren't tanks, but they are squishy, and they are damned horrible to have against you. And a nightmare when they are working with another player.

As for DnD, he's like a Shadow Dancer, Fighter, and Monk all in one. Which is kinda a decent trade off for having no aggressive spells or powerful magic like the rest of the party. Hes probably far less resilient than Xavier, but has an evasiveness of a ghost.
Title: Re: Against the Night OOC

I had a feeling. GW1 assassins were pretty nasty. GW2 thieves are a lot less teleporty and painful,  but they have more survivability.
Title: Re: Against the Night OOC
Post by: Cyril on November 19, 2015, 06:02:15 AM
The bow gives thieves so much mobility, even with how much they already have.

But then it should make sense that we've seen tanky mages because necromancers are a thing in GW2 =.='

Honestly when I bounce it's because of people being transphobic or the mods not doing anything to cease things of that nature. I tend to wander back usually for threads like this and because I've been here since these forums started. I also tried to run roleplays in the past and ran into the same issue. I'd do so now but I am easily discouraged.

I kinda do both methods for my RPs. Forums because you can find a lot more intellectual people who prefer to write longer descriptions of thier actions. And IM  because sometimes i just get that itch to RP a lot.
Title: Re: Against the Night OOC

Precisely why I am here as well, Cyril. As for sneaky thieves on boats, it is very handy. The old traveling crew included a battlemage, an assassin, a gun-mage, a heavy weapon fighter, a mechanic, an empath, and a samurai.

I've had IM groups/partners that can out-write me, but it's been years ago.
Should we bother looking for more people? I think we've kinda tapped out the player base at the moment.

Behind that thieves arrogance is wisdom catered by experience :P , and a belief of death around every corner.

But I will say that Mort is the first character I have seen that did not care for a thief's behavior XD .

Every other party, DnD or not has always made my thieves the party's accountant. Even when they are chaotic Netural, have been in prison for some time, or what ever.

Party: Who do we trust to give the money too?
Oh I know the thief!

Dar'Haro the Thief looks to the four of them like they are f*cking morons: "... What? You... do realize that I can just disappear with it... and you would never be able to find me?"

They shove all leave the room with the loot on the table. He stares at it for a moment... then growls as he scoops it all into a bag.... "Sonova...."

I'll admit... it was incredibly secure. The thief never ran off with it. Kept good track of all the accounting. And no one dared to mug him.

EDIT: Just noticed this, hes not wearing his mask.

I meant both I suppose. Also, yes, Cyril your last post got the small text bug. For anyone who needs to read it before he (hopefully) fixes it, just copy/paste it into notepad. Notepad has universal text size. :3

Neshar is certainly taking all the options into consideration. I'm not even entirely sure what that third option might be for dealing with an attack from behind. I would agree that we probably don't have anyone capable of running an assassination job, certainly if he can't do it himself. :p

For those who don't know what the displacer beast looks like....

It is a large magical creature. So about the size of a bear or horse
... yeeeeaaaah... just one of these hellish illusion spamming murder cats an really ruin a mid-game party's day real fast.

It is mentioned in his bio that these creatures lead Neshar to his curse. Most of them are friendly towards him, and in a way Neshar unconsciously reveres them. Plus i figured if anything... this will be a perfect resident evil reference for later.

Hello all! I understand that there have been some flighty members of this rp that have come and gone, but I'm a bit more disciplined than that. I consistently attended Pathfinder Society sessions for an ongoing campaign through the Emerald Spire, through the Eyes Of The Ten retirement games, and onward. This stretched out over months and I faithfully attended every single one on time.

That being said, here is a sheet updated with more details per Xavier's request:

Name: ??? (Likes to use the name Micah)
Age: ???
Species: Kitsune Feykin
Gender: Male
Class (Or general combat style): Reanimated Medium/Amnesiac Psychic
Power Scale: 5 (Amnesiac status can cause fluctuations in either direction)

Description: This psychic is a snow white kitsune with two tails. He wears a gunmetal grey armored coat with a matching hooded cloak and closed leather greaves providing him with enough protection to withstand a fair bit of abuse. While his eyes are an alluring dark amber, the most notable feature he has is around his eyes. Thick, pale blue lines run across his skin and into the fur sprouting from that skin creating swirling patterns that vaguely resemble occult symbols. These markings aren't usually apparent until you get face to face with him under some light which requires his hood to be down. The lines and patterns continue down his cheeks, down the side of his neck and disappear beneath his collar, though there are similar markings on his hand paws goin up into his sleeves if one were to catch him with his gloves off.

History: The fox's memory goes back as far as a year, back to an evening when he woke up feeling hot all over and covered in wounds that were barely closed. He gathered himself, his backpack and the wooden staff that was lying several feet from him. There was some sort of ruins further up the hill, but the fox knew he had to leave. Heading down the hill he ran into a couple mercenaries who looked more than startled to see him. When they rushed him he thrust a paw out and dropped them to the ground with a surge of psychic power. It was then he noticed the markings on his hand paws, they glowed very faintly when he used his magic. The fox tried to meditate on the subject and even tried to get magical aid in recovering his memory. The mage, however, encountered a block. Upon pressing at this blockage both the mage and the fox were wracked with visions of aberrant horror and feelings of disorientation and twisted alien thought. It was concluded that something had happened that warped part of his mind, sealing off most of his memories and muddling about half of his psychic magic. Whenever he tried to push his magical potential beyond what he could remember and safely cast it was a gamble. Every day since then has been a quest for answers, and the key to the darkest corners of his mind.

Noteworthy gear (Any magical items or trinkets): Among his things were a pair of gunmetal grey goggles with blue lenses that augment his senses and allow him to observe auras with better clarity as well as partially shield him from gaze and vision based effects. There was also an amulet with a vibrant blue gem which seems to slightly expand his magical potential, but also restricts the upward and downward potential of his amnesiac powers. The staff he found can absorb a portion of his psychic powers to allow it to act as a magic and psychic weapon.

Abilities(Magic/weapon abilities): Being a hybrid of a medium and a psychic, the fox uses psychic spells and abilities as opposed to traditional arcane or divine magic. The spells do not use incantations or gestures, but instead use thought and emotion components. Psychic magic is embraced by a some, questioned by others, but rejected by many. His amnesia related blocks cause a good portion of his magical potential to be unpredictable. Trying to tap this fuzzy area can prove fruitless and in some cases disrupt his ability to cast spells. Most of the time it works, but in a few rare instances he'll accidentally reach some spell or power beyond his normal capability, but lose it once it's cast. This variance is usually mitigated by focusing through his amulet. His staff is marked with occult sigils that glow when he channels his power through it. When channeling through his staff and striking with it, bits of magic discharge and cause the nerves to light up in pain.

Noteworthy skills: The fox has pushed his mind and spirit beyond normal boundaries and even forcibly held on to his body when he was at the point of death on a few occasions. Other adventurers healed him, thinking he was only bleeding out when in truth he'd been walking the veils edge.

Flaws or Weaknesses: His magical potential is only halfway cemented in most cases. Over the past year he's remastered the basics, but his mid level magics aren't all there. Once he's reached the end of his known spells he must venture into the tempestuous realms of his fractured mind to pull out more spells.

[Mechanically he's a blend of the Reanimated Medium and Amnesiac Psychic archetypes of the Medium and Psychic classes from Pathfinder RPG's Occult Adventures book. His spell list a slight blend of the two with some more offensive abilities as well. His kitsune powers vaguely follow the Magical Tails abilities with some added tricks from the 3rd party book Kitsune Compendium. The important mechanical aspects are listed below]

A Reanimated Medium has died and forcibly re-inhabited it's own body. As a Reanimated Medium this character gains the following abilities:

Channel Self: The fox possesses it's own body and as such channels it's own spirit and it's own potential legend. Instead of regulating influence from a spirit he relies on maintaining high influence over his own body. If his influence drops to 0 he will lapse into a coma as he looses control over his own body.
Spirit Surge: The fox can call up a surge of his own energy to help tip the favor in matters relating to his current legend by burning influence
Ease Passage: The fox's tight grip to it's body eases the passage back to the living should he require a raise dead
Lingering Spirit: The fox can stay rooted in it's own body for a short period after he dies by burning influence, during which time any healing magic will still affect him. Once that period is over, effects similar to Breath Of Life will still affect him for the time immediately following.
Spirit Warding: As the fox is a spirit possessing it's own body, he is resilient (not immune) to all manner of possession, death, and negative energy effects

As an Amnesiac Psychic he has access to a Psychic's spell list and Phrenic pool, but his two highest spell levels are clouded by his amnesia. When tapping an "amnesia spell slot" there is a 10% chance the attempt will fail and he will not be able to cast other spells for a brief period. 25% chance he will fail to remember a lost spell but still be able to cast known spells. 60% chance he will remember a spell and be able to cast it. 5% chance he will remember and cast a spell one level above the spell he's trying to remember, then lose that spell immediately after. The fox's discipline is Faith, his devotion going to Inari Okami

As a Feykin kitsune, his features in his human form and kitsune form are more slender, delicate, and full of an ethereal beauty. His abilities are more focused on enchatment, though he can still use foxfire

Is your post like a dual-possibility post Tangle, or is the last tidbit going to happen regardless of if he encounters enemies?

Also if anyone has any particular items or neat trinkets they want their characters to find in the upcoming foray, PM me and we'll work something out :p I would like for some dynamic skill or gear improvement over time, so we're not just playing static characters ^^

Also for anyone unfamiliar with it, Alex is using the Pathfinder table-top rules as a base for his character, which is why you see things like spell level in his description. It looks good to me. I would like to add that Kitsune tails essentially allow very minor illusion spells and pseudo-mind control a limited number of times a day.

Well it's a pretty interesting character. But from what I read I'm a little worried about his mental control over others, npcs or players. Mainly because of that one segment where he mentioned having his soul controlling his body, plus being a psychic.

If we can come to a agreement on that I can totally let him in. He looks like a fun interesting character!

Dual possibilities. Neither could happen or both could. Your choice. I also figured they may run into one of these creatures... given it was mentioned that powerful magics draw stronger creatures to it. Likely one of the creatures mentioned in the scroll. The displacer won't stick with them long (unless you want it too... I guess someone could try talking Neshar into convincing the thing to let someone ride on it's back... maybe the bully or drake?) . Being friendly is different from being helpful :P. It may come back like a big damned hero though to repay a debt.

The whole possessing his own body doesn't allow him to possess others. It's actually a more delicate form of living, as he his connection can weaken to a point that his body goes comatose. At this level, his enchantments will not be mind controlling, more attitude adjusting. Take a look at the psychic spell list if you can find it

Ok so it would be like illusion magic in skyrim then at first. But still later you'll have mind control and personally I don't really like that idea personally. Not unless you don't really do it too often.

Let me put it this way. I have a character build for Pathafinder Society that is perfectly legal and completely broken. I could ruin entire modules with the abilities I have at my disposal, but I purposefully tweak the build and weaken it when necessary to keep the game fun.

I learned to play fair and share the spotlight back in middle school, before I even joined the fandom

I've noticed Alex :P. It seems that you've turned a Psionic Character into the equivalent of a Wild Mage. Lets hope he doesn't change someone into a cat, or blow everyone up.

I understand. But I still don't personally like mind control (i have been saying that pretty much the whole time). It's just I don't like it. But I'm not the GM so this is all opinion. You don't need to explain everything to me.

It's entirely new magic. It casts like regular spells, not with power points, it's very interesting. No random chicken transformation though lol

Drake! I think Neshar and Drake will be able to team up fairly well. :P His spells aren't aggressive... but he leaks magic on any fast movements :P the two could fight together... with Neshar being a battery and laying down the ganks.
Title: Re: Against the Night OOC
Post by: Drakeyboy on December 20, 2015, 04:33:57 AM
Hmm... i see what you mean tangle. Yes it would help him last longer but Drake prefers to overcharge his spells so unless neshar is the flash it probably won't be to useful for long. but again it would definitely help a lot when it's not against a large mass of people. Plus Drake also is pretty fast so if neshar leaks magic as he moves quickly then if Drake could keep close ut would basically bee a blade hurricane. XD
Title: Re: Against the Night OOC
Post by: tangletail on December 20, 2015, 05:29:04 AM
There's always room for improvement. Neshar has been stuck with the same spells he's had since he was a kid. He's gotten really good at them, and has little desire to seek out power.... so it's probably why his curse isn't so prevalent on him. :P

But there are his anchors for his shadowless shadow steps. The more energy he dumps into it, the longer the anchor stays on the object, and the further he can be from it. They help him "see" his mark while he dances. But... otherwise they are just unused magic energy that probably won't need to be recycled X3
Title: Re: Against the Night OOC
Post by: Drakeyboy on December 20, 2015, 05:40:49 AM
Now that anchor sounds like it could be a feast for his spells. XD because how he does it is he would pull up a barrier to stop the spell from injuring him while opening up a sort of channel to siphon off the magical energy from the stopped spell to fuel his next spell. Plus some extra if needed.
Title: Re: Against the Night OOC
Post by: Xavier Akafur on December 21, 2015, 03:36:06 AM
Given that his character is table-top based I think likely that his ability to mind control people would be limited to weak-willed individuals, and be very short-term. I can't say for certain. At the moment, though, it's not really a concern, since he only has 2 tails.

Post by: Xavier Akafur on January 11, 2016, 08:05:26 AM
Well this fight went totally ballistic, and I love it :)

I'm trying to keep a close track on where everybody is positioned so that i know how the enemies would react. Currently, and correct me if I'm wrong, Mort and Drake are battling two of the three new assassins in close quarters. Xavier is fighting one of those three about a dozen paces behind them. Somewhere in that relative vicinity is Micah, fighting a group of foot soldiers.

Then more towards the back we have Camille taking on the remaining assassin of the original three. Dargonhawk is out front of everyone and in the weeds killing the mages, Neshar is likewise cutting down stragglers and heading back to help Camille.

The main enemy force is between Dragonhawk and the group with Mort, currently charging at Drake and Mort's position.

Sound about right?
Title: Re: Against the Night OOC
Post by: tangletail on January 11, 2016, 12:02:40 PM
Well... what to do... what to do.

Camile might be able to finish off he last original assassin... which leaves Neshar to look for his next target after he makes sure Camile bails. He's not going to bother with the new three assassins unless ordered... it's too cluttered and they seem to have similar abilities to Neshar... sooo... knife in the back in the cat does not make for a good day XD.

Given he fights like a specialist :P if dragonhawk (who pretty much has vision over everything) or Xavier (whom he accepted as the groups leader) has any recommendations for him... he can deal with efficiency :3.

Smoke bomb the advancing eight soldiers, and turn them ino a bloody mess.

Or go and brutally assassinate or take the leader captive.

Title: Re: Against the Night OOC
Post by: Xavier Akafur on January 12, 2016, 11:23:03 AM
The issue with that being that nobody can really keep tabs on where Neshar is with all the bamphing. :p Even Xavier has lost track of exactly who is where. He pretty much knows where Mort and Camille are because they are the two he is most concerned with currently assisting.

And glad to have you, Alex. It's always nice to hear people are enjoying themselves. :)

Also I'm a bit lost on things... so I went with the best of my knowledge.

A quick note here... the feline is definitely not on fire :3 . Singed... but not on fire. The way he's dropping out a thick trail of smoke on the other hand... would probably make it look like so. Or make him look like a raving hell cat. I'd imagine it'd also be difficult to actually get a bead on him now. Oh... and lovely column of smoke between the group fighting the assassins and more archers in that path. Gotta love rogue tricks.

NEVER FIGHT A DRUID DX
Title: Re: Against the Night OOC
Post by: AJ Fawxe on January 24, 2016, 03:32:05 PM
Druids can be nasty business. I would know. In Pathfinder I was tasked with making a character centered around DPS (damage per second) with nothing but the core rulebook and I skipped past the Fighter, the Barbarian, the Wizard, and the Sorcerer and went for the Druid. Augment summons at level one for Strengh and Constitution boosts to all summons, Wild Spell to cast in animal form, Dire Tiger wild shape and Dire Tiger animal companion. Why? Pounce, Grab, Rake chain.

Pounce - Make a full attack off a charge
Grab - Get a free grapple attempt off a successful attack
Rake - Extra damage done against a grappled opponent

The brutality is real
Title: Re: Against the Night OOC

That is just level one... a druid of level 7 can do some stupidly cheeky crap.

Actually, you don't get Wild Shape at level one. In order to get access to the full suite of Dire Tiger fuckery you need to be around level seven. With a +2 Amulet of Mighty Fist you can have your unarmed strikes and NATURAL WEAPONS under the effects of Flaming Burst

Flaming benefits - 1d6 fire on all unarmed strikes and natural attacks
Flaming Burst benefits - an extra 1d10 on cirts, 2d10 on a x3 crit, 3d10 on x4 crits

I've had the flu, so apologies for the wait. Nemael hasn't posted yet but it's been a week so I'll go ahead and advance us a round.

Also to be clear the shield the captain-fellow is using negates all magic in a 20 ft radius and adds its power to his physical abilities, including strength, constitution, and speed. So at the moment he's about two or three times as strong and fast as he naturally would be, and he's a fairly bad-ass dude to begin with.

*casually amends post*

So I'm not sure how I was going to deal with the commander situation, because my normal description of Camille's material he manipulates is, "not magic but manipulated and formed by magic." However since I had called it magic armor earlier, and it just seems more balanced and less loophole BS'd, I made it vanish off of him and let the main show to Mort and Drake while he dog gets assaulted by minor antagonists. ;)
Title: Re: Against the Night OOC

I hate to say it, but to be 100% realistic Micah might just pick off anyone who approaches him and leave you all to suffer. He's been attacked, subjected to racial prejudice, magical prejudice, threats and demands. I'm trying to figure out what's going to keep him on your guys' side lol It might take some of the 'otter things' diplomacy to be honest. I do enjoy the realism in the suspicion though

I'll go ahead and spoil it. The only thing Neshar is racist towards, are goblins and high elves (the snobby sort). Neshar does not like psionics. Tend to be more invasive than he is, and caused him and his squad a lot of hell in the past. Plus it's not like he can change the controller port to prevent you from reading his mind... and memory card.

Also... I thought drake got this... Maybe mort?

Otter diplomacy may be a few posts away at least, he's in bad shape. He has a high resistance to physical damage, but necrotic magic will kill him just as easy as anyone else. I was kinda hoping somebody would intercept that missile between my posts :p

As for the commander, Neshar's torture bomb is going to do some damage but he's pretty beefed up on magic already. Drake's in a bad spot because unlike the other mages he seems to rely entirely on magic. Xavier wouldn't be able to fight him either because he's partially made of magic. That shield would have a similar effect as a sudden onset disease if he got close to it. I'm not 100% sure of the effect it would have on Mort's blood. I guess that depends on how that ability is defined. Also, I feel like Dragonhawk will be largely unaffected, and Micah could potentially still use certain abilities.

Speaking of, are you okay Nemael? Not pushing for a post just a bit worried :)

Given you entered in the middle of the fray, our characters probably wouldn't trust you.
I'm taking it from a cynical approach my character would be likely to take being trusting the wrong person would get him and others killed at this point, and please don't believe it's me trying to be unfriendly towards you as a person.
My actions in roleplay don't reflect how I feel towards the owners of other characters.
After things stop flying, Camille can do so come sweet talking. Explain why he rejected the mental heal thing and whatnot. But given he's more avoid injury, he'll take a fight over hearing diplomacy any day.

Tangle you expected a mage with no real combat skills beyond his magic to be able to take on a pure anti-mage soldier?

I have heard of wishful thinking before but that's a bit of a stretch don't ya' think? XD

Whoa, okay. Don't worry guys, I know you have nothing against me as a person. I tend to play my characters both online and offline very realistically. If it would be logical for my character to act in a certain way, then they will, even if it's to the detriment of himself or the party.

For the record though, his magic is just another form of spellcasting. It's functionally identical to other forms of spell casting save that psychic spells never have verbal or somatic components. Psychic spell casters replace those components with thought and emotion components respectively. Their magic is derived from their mind, body, spirit and even their cosmic self.

Also, in order to use his duelist powers he would have to sacrifice an unused spell to create a manifestation to directly attack the commanders mind. He could resist as if it was any normal attack, obviously though, Micah would only use it if he had to what with the significant cost. Duels are tricky bitches so I think for a forum rp they should be avoided

I'd suggest to just do it :P. Chances are... the "Torutring powder" (love the name by the way Xavier), did something to him... which might be wrecking havoc on his longues, eyes, nose, mouth, and skin. With the power he absorbed... it just might be painful enough for it to be distracting. My guess at some damage :P

Hopefully that also means he's not going to put up as hard core of a fight when you work your magic on his head. That... and hopefully that shield augments only physical ability. And not will power as well.
Title: Re: Against the Night OOC
Post by: AJ Fawxe on February 01, 2016, 10:29:45 PM
Well, if I could use the spell "Instigate Psychic Duel" and do it proper I'd feel better, but then if he was hit by one of you guys it could drag him out of the mindscape and end the duel before I could do much. It would also mean I kinda take the spotlight by doing a one on one thing.

Psychic Duelist abilities allow me to create an offensive manifestation which directly assaults the opponents mind and subsequently the body outside of a psychic duel, but outside of a duel I can only draw from my spells for power. So not a very long assault at all.

Your eagerness to see me wreck his shit is appreciated Tangle! I'm just making sure all the various minutiae are sorted out lol

Well... at the moment... there's only three characters that can stand a chance against em XD.

There's mort... who would probably leave Comrade Badass a smear on the ground if his power isn't taken away from him...

Then there's Neshar and Micha. Buut... fleeing is also a valid option. But someone might want to save Drakey's butt.

Mort's a pretty competent smasher even without his ability, though he may be weaker due to the fact that if his power is sapped, he has a decent amount of blood outside of his body with his ability at the moment. I'll get on a post now, actually. Sorry I've not really been around as much! I'm not sure that his ability is magic so much as manipulation, but I feel as if it's probably unfair to assume his skills would work while everyone else's putters out.

EDIT: So to clarify, Mort is attempting to put some distance between himself and Drake from the commander long enough for him to gather his blood inside of his body; Spoiler alert: He's gonna scramble to find his axe next turn.

If Mort hates thieves now... be glad Neshar is defaulting to harassing.

Imagine being taught by dexterous creatures with eyes on the side of their heads instead of the front, poor vision but awesome perception. Kinda means that your larger weapons will use long windy strokes with continuous momentum and movement to hit multiple targets.

@_@ I can imagine an angry headless hell hound ready to beat the mess out of a fleeing cat because he friendly fired.

So, I don't really know what you're doing there Cyril. I pulled you into the woods, made my comment as I was pulling you into the brush-hopefully hidden under the hail of necrotic magic, and then I darted off after the commander. Sooo I'm kinda just imagining that he's sitting there talking and expecting me to be there lol Even if he does follow me, I won't be much of a conversationalist, after all I'm trying to catch the commander unprepared since he's chasing after the others

I've been itching to bust into Occult Origins. I know I don't have to play him by the books, but I really like to have a good slew of spells to go off of. A little Psychonaut Manifestation to let me sap INT for Strengh and Mindshock to add a little extra hurt, because if Micah has to relive old painful memories, then so will they. One hit at a time.

Speaking of old memories, I finally nailed down what happened when he lost his memory, and unfortunately it came to me when I was thinking of necromancy and transmutation. Sorry Cyril! Our conflict continues lol

Oh I know, but my character doesn't. All he knows is that those beads manipulate life force and can take life from the incapacitated or the dying. Manipulation of life force is classically known as a form of necromancy. Necromancy triggers something in him. Also he's kinda/not quite dead so necromancy is even more worrisome to him. Sooo...

I'm surprised he has nothing to say about Neshar's Shadow Dancing, or Morts Blood Magic :P .

Blood Magic is a manipulation of the life force. I was going to say that he could probably steal other people's blood... but then I realize that could be more harmful than good. Probably attack them with their own blood though if it's exposed.

In the DnD manual, a shadow dancer is an ally of darkness. Also Capable of summoning undead shades, which he -can- do. Sort of. But that's pretty close to necromancy XD .

Also Mort. That picture for your Forum avatar is just adorable. I want to give the zombie hound a hug.

Rogues man :P. They will figure it out sooner or later. Sides it's not quite power gaming. He's seen Xavier get hit by some hard core acid. And He's seen him near death when none of the wounds he may have took looked critical.

Post Merge: February 24, 2016, 03:11:58 AM
I just realized Xavier is doing a better job at being a rogue than the party's thief. He has more secrets than he does <___<
Title: Re: Against the Night OOC

With the way Micah plays, Alex, that's probably a good idea actually.

And Tangle you can't blame him, despite being in two deadly battles with the group now he's only known them for like, what, 2 days? Revealing he's composed of more magic than flesh and blood would be revealing a pretty huge weakness, especially given that now there's a magic-eating shield within spitting distance.

Hey guys, just an update. I was laid off from my job last night so my posting time is going to be sporadic for awhile, potentially. I'm certainly going to try and keep up my presence here, but I now have to deal with finding a job again and all that jazz. I stress out pretty easily about that kind of thing so I may disappear for a few days here and there if I need to decompress. No change to the RP, just giving everyone a heads up. If you notice me not having been on for a bit just PM me, it goes to my email :D
