Well Heres my story:
When I was a little kid i used to watch "Tama and Friends" Which is a show about cats and thier dog friend (animated of course) and thier adventures and stuff. Just innocent... then i came upon an episthe ode where the main character cat's owner was sick, and when he went to sleep he would dream he was a cat playing with Tama and the others. And he really was a cat, because the cats (+1 dog) played with him, and when the boy woke up his cat form would disappear. I soaked all this in like a sponge.
Then in about 2nd grade i was in the school library and i picked up the book "The Werewolf Club" and that set me off into creating a cult of 2nd graders who thought they were Werewolves. Then a Tiger cult kinda broke us up.
Then in 4th grade i began thinking i was a wolf in a previous life. This went on until about 6th grade.
Soon after I abandoned my idea that I had been a wolf, i began watching the Anime "Wolf's Rain" which inspired me to go digging through the internet to find ways to become a werewolf. This is where i came across my first view of good anthropomorphic art. I soon stared saving as many anthro wolf pictures as possible. Then in 7th grade I got my first Girlfriend. She was an 8th grade girl who was really big on the Furry Fandom. She revieled my inner Furry Self.
Five months after that, she dumped me, but the Furry in me sill lives on!

Imvu made me realize my furryness. I was at a bad point in my young life and was looking around the web, just surfing when i saw a banner for imvu. I joined up and when i saw WMs foxskin i just knew there was an inner fox inside of me. I wore that skin for 8 months or so until razi made her more defined fox skin :snicker:

Pretty much, I used to draw "animal people" all the time as a child. I used to hop around all crazy like; acting like whatever animal I pleased. I continued drawing these furry and scaley peoples until I found out it was an anthro animal. After that I joined IMVU... Like a couple of months ago; and really, I'm still learning about furs. My person was a dragon when I joined IMVU. ^^ I found a link for FF in a shoutout by Maxis, and here I am.

well it was kinda like when i was little i would crall on my knees and hands and act like a wolf and my mom would aways call me her furry wolf girl so i looked it up in 5th grade and found antho wolfs and well bout it

Max, get out of my head! I saw the banner on google. I chose the red fox partially because i have red hair. Also to blame is Disney's Robin Hood... he was so smexy!
But that's nearly my story exactly. I never even knew what a furry was before IMVU. And WzM's red fox was the best, I was in love... until they released the alternate heads...

But that's another story... the whole reason behind my obsession with fur.

*Shrugs* Beats me when the whole thing started. Probully since the begining, I only got a name for it around 1998. That's when I discovered a couple of Anthro sites, like Yerf, and someone named Gen The Anime Fox. I finally had something to call what I was drawing. EEESH I still have thoes first pictures of anthros I drew (the crappyness could kill ya!) Other then that I've always loved watching nature shows about animals, and when I was younger I loved preteneding to be one.

well, throughout my life I have been surrounded by cats. Though I was more of a scalie for a while, i liked reptiles and such. Then I started to admire agility more, eventually took a keen liking to cats. The thing that made me start to think of humanoids was probably inuyasha though, and then years later I saw an add for imvu and then leading to this point.

Well, I've always identified with animals better than with people. I was a strange, strange child. I'd run around the house on all fours. When the lion king came out (what year was that?), I was obsessive. I guess you could say Simba was my first crush =3 Anyways, I never played with barbies much, and if they did appear in my my games, the humans were usually the bad guys, with my animal toys as the good guys. I guess it's no wonder I decided to be a zoologist as soon as I learned what the term meant in kindergarten.
I used the persona of a non-anthro cheetah for the a little bit when I started going online (I was, I believe, 10 or 11 at the time) and then switched to a gray wolf. Tigerwing, a winged white tiger was my online persona for a long time starting from about age 12. It was also at this time that I begin to grew spiritually and came to the conclusion that everyone had an animal they were connected to in someway. I'm not sure where exactly I began identifying with wolves again, but it was around the same time that I learned what an anthro was and also a time when I was really growing emotionally. I lingered around the edges of the furry fandom and found a comfy home in therian (were) communities. I drifted around for a while, continued to grow spiritually and to expand my artistic abilities.
Then I found IMVU when a friend convinced me to make an account for a RP we had going. I quickly made another account for myself. I started out with just ears and a tail, but then I got addicted to skins, even those of species I didn't identify with at all. And now I've met all of you, and I feel like I'm part of a great community again.
And now for the question that every furry and were gets asked: "Do you really think you're a wolf?"
Nope, sadly I'm a human. However, I've come to believe and understand that some part of me, soul, spirit, core, whatever, is quite a bit wolfy. How or why it's that way, I have no idea.

As i have said before: Why I wanted to be a furry:
When I was little, my Nan found a stray kitten sitting on the wall of her garden. So basically we grew up together. He was my first friend. And I was jealous of his cattyness. The extreme agility, a tail, pointy ears and most of all; his pretty soft grey fur. I wanted to be a cat. So I used to dress up as one. Later on; well about three months ago, I found out this meant you are a furry. And I always felt alone and thought I was just weird. But now there's a whole forum of you guys. So I'm happy. =^.^=
But I was also obsessed with the Lion King... o.0 I never liked Barbies or any dolls really. Rather play with my teddy bears and things. Still do :P
Never got into anime apart from Pokemon, Digimon, Sailor Moon and Tenchi Myuo.

As far as the Barbie thing goes... I never liked Barbies.
My mother always bought them for me... Until she found a box of them that were dismembered.
Barbie heads, arms, legs, torsos everywhere as far as the eye could see.

It was then, my mother realized that I was playing Barbie murder and playing with the animals that came with her.
So she stopped buying Barbies for me, and got me animals!

Honestly I think I've always been a fan of anthros. ;) I've always gotten along better with animals than most people, and my eariest favorite stories were the ones with animals or animal based creatures as the main themes.
I blame the following! : Aesop's Fables! Leo (or Kimba) the white lion anime (gah i'm so old) Thundercats / Silverhawks / Tigersharks, and of course, Watershipdown, My little Pony... and the icing on the cake that made me stop drawing just animals, dragons and unicorns.... Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles who taught me that animals could walk on two legs!

actually i think i've just been naturally furry. I've always loved wearing fake animal tails and ears ever since i can remeber. Also
I used to pretend i was a animal when i was like 5 and i still have the first pair of kitty ears i made :o (made them when i was 5, because it was my arts and crafts phase O.o) That and i'm actually faster when i run around on my hands and feet compared to running on two legs. :/

Aye, same for me...truth be told I became a furry totally by accident...I stumbeled upon a furry story site and then from then on I was obessesed(not to a crazy degree mind you, but obsessed none the less)
Now if you will all excuse me...I must go and work on some furry stories I have in the process of finishing...

Same here. I used to watch "Looney Toons", "TMNT" and "The Littles" and "Calvin and Hobbes" without realizing I was watching more than the story. They all had a similiar theme. Then at the age of 16 I was taken to a bar/club where people were being bodypainted as cats. Again I think I didn't realize what was making me curious (besides the bathing suit... LOL). But I then when interNet finally came about, I started surfing bodying painting, to tranformations, to furries. I then I realized. Hey wouldn't it be cool to have a tail? And paws? And nice furry fur to rub against? Yeah... real coool...

well when i was little i always loved animals and would always play around like i was a wear wolf or something at school and me and other ppl always thought it was a stage i was goign through but as years went on and i grew older (not that old...) it still stayed in my head and i lead on to things as of reincarnation as a wolf or something
but when i was smaller i liked things like snakes and rapters and dragons. id always dream i was one or something. because in your dreams you have no reality, only what you make of it and what your mind belives in. and my longest animal stage was the rapter one i would try to dream about it every night and then i thought about wings on it (never did look right) but for a few years i went with that until i started living at brads house then i met ray (his step dad) he has an obsesion with wolves
naturally it rubbed off on me when time took its tole and the show such as inuyasha and wolfs reign (also another cat lady show i cant remember) started showing on adult swim and as being me i would always watch it. but when they cancled shows like that cat one or the wolf reign i was really pissed especially the wolf reign because it just went around in a loop like the director and the makers jsut grew tired of it
iv tried to find another show or book like that story but could never find one and so i gave up on it (lets skip ahead awhile shall we ^^)
so previously i saw that new movie blood and chocolate (it looks jsut like wolfs reign) i really want to see that this saterday i think but im broke so ill just have to watch it at a friends house when it come out on blockbuster
but last weak i saw my first furry on imvu and i thought that looks cool ^^ so naturally i looked up a costume and found my fav animal (white wolf) or at least close enough to a white wolf and then i saw the publisher was maxis29 i think and i always loved her products so i saved up (or just barrowed from a friend in this case) and bought the wolf costume
shortly after that about a day i stumbled onto a furry that i cant remember his name and he said something about FF at the time i didnt no what the heck he was talking about so i just left it alone and nodded lol
but when i was searching through hp i came apon maxis hp and saw the FF banner i clicked on it and LOVED that there are so many furries on here ^^ so i guess im sorta a late bloomer furry as some call it idk im still learning the ropes hope ya like my life story sry its so long

Hm... Well, I know my interest in wolves started way back when Wolf's Rain was on Adult Swim. I also used to run around on all fours when I was younger and it probably wasn't until recently, about a year or two ago, that I stopped doing that.
My wolf obsession grew more when I made my first wolf character, Lunara Cashaar, a black non-anthro. I roleplayed with her on one of Yahoo's Graffiti rooms, Autograph. It was there that I made friends with a couple of other people, one also being a Wolf's Rain fan, and we roleplayed almost daily.
About three summers ago, one of my wolf friends and I were in a conversation on YIM and they ended up telling me about Furcadia, a downloadable client-based furry MMORPG. I joined instantly, using Lunara. At first, I wasn't at all impressed with the size of the characters because I was used to full-screen virtual worlds, like There and Second Life. Despite this I soon grew to enjoy Furcadia and eventually made my second Furcadia character, Black Cocoa. This is one of the characters I will never forget about because of the group of friends I met while using Black Cocoa and also all of the trouble I managed to get into about my new friend's dream (the equivalent of a scene in IMVU, only you're able to move around freely) with another neighboring dream. I won't go into all of that, though, because it would take up way too much room. ^^;
To sum it all up, I met great friends, some of which I kept, and made many different characters before settling upon my current one, Adelrausch. Adelrausch is the most detailed out of all of them and is, in my opinion, the closest to my true self. If you're wondering about the name it was just something I made up in English class last year in 7th grade, when I was starting to get interested in Rammstein and the German language. Now that I know that there's a name for what I am, I am happy to extend my furriness, which showed a lot on Christmas and Christmas Eve because I wore a black cat tail and ears on a Santa hat. :-[

i've never even seen wolf's rain. Though I remember roll playing things with my friends, I always liked to be a cat humanoid.

ya it is its a cool show only that its a show and alot better ^^ but its cancled... and the writer sucked at the end :fu: they didnt finish the story it just looped
It isn't canceled, the story was supposed to loop like that. The show finished in Japan long before they decided to show it on Adult Swim.
Oh, and read the manga :P

The manga is good, too, but there's only two volumes. =s I wish there were more. AS should air it again sometime because it seemed to be so popular.

Well, before I began my 6 year isolation from the rest of the world (not by choice :th_PyongLlora: ) so in bout gr. 1 and 2 I'd get together some kids and role play as animals. Then when I moved to the crappy catholic school (where kids told me to F*** off and don't talk to them) at gr.3 I kept my sanity by reading about Werewolves and Cat people, and drawing (very badly) them. :umm:
Then about a month ago I came onto IMVU and saw the fur, and became a furry.

Like Link4009, I, too, was isolated from the world (I was in foster care when I was about 6-7 years old). I took an interest in foxes and started to draw them. Eventually... I started acting like a cat (Thanks to isolation...). When I was in 3rd grade, and had no friends, I never stop drawing foxes, wolves, and cat humanoids.
From the years in grammar school to the agony of surviving in middle school, I still had no friends (even if I had any friends, they'd all left to move in another state or betray me)... but I never stopped drawing animals.
In my first year in high school, I became very popular because of my art. One girl asked me, "Hey, are you drawing furries?" Not knowing what the heck that was, I asked her what it was. The girl told me what it was and I was shocked. The whole time that I kinda acted like a cat... I never knew I was a furry.
Today, as a senior, I'm viewed as the punk-rock furry (and a really cool furry I may add! :3). I now act like a fox... not saying I literally act like one, just that I now have a sly personality. >333

Well, I`v been a furry ever since I was a toddler without even knowing it. When my sister played with dolls I isolated those hell toys and was always asking and crying for and about stuffed animals. When ashlee, my sister, was watching cinderlla I screamed and cried for lion king and always watched and sang to it, I probably became a furry because of the lion king and my prefernce for stuffed animals. I have autisim.( If you dont know what autisim is please google it, I prefer not to talk about it.) I use to have it horribley bad; screaming,yelling, not speaking correct english, not talking, banging my head on walls,etc. but over time it became so mild that even now nobody knows I have it.
Anyway as a young kid I use to make animal noises, I rember one day when I made wolf pads with markers on my hands and feet and ran on all fours up and down the stairs. My parents or sibilings didnt think nothing of it ( they dont know what a furry was ) and I always loved animals. My obsession of animals is what makes me furry.
Infact I only reliazed from willy that I was a furry.
Neh meh furry story isnt sad but meh past is ._. :peek:

i hate going to new schools, its always a sad day for me when it comes to a new school. your all frightened,and shy got nobody to talk too, sit a a table by yourself tooo, yea i dont have happy life, ive been evicted from my homes twice, been homeless living in an abaondened warehouse for 2 years, never get to go on any vacations not once,i went to those fun places like vegas and florida, but not for fun, but for buisness, i watched all the happy turists do all fun stuff while cooped up in a hotel rooom, while parents gambling away thier money, and at florida i sat in the car watching people surf and have fun, while my parents had a picninc on the beach T_T i could go on forever about my misery in life but i wont. :th_PyongLlora: :th_PyongLlora:

I totally sympathize with you. I, too, never went on a vacation. When I was a kid, every summer I stayed home and just sit beside my window and stared outside, looking at families piling up stuff on to their car and the kids run inside with their swimsuits on. Sure, I went to pools and I went to beaches, but I live close by to them (I live in the metro side of New York, and it's close to the water...).

Well then, here's mine. :3
My story is a little odd for a lot of reasons... some things might not connect right (some I still don't understand, and others I would prefer not to share...) so I'm sorry for that. : P Anyway!
I'm a jaguar therian, so acting animalistic was never unfamiliar to me. I ran around on four legs far, far longer than anyone else I know of did (9-10 is when it faded out). I could walk, sure, but I didn't like it as much. I preferred my four feet over my two. And, of course, I would RP animals all the time. I always wanted to be the animal - always. Jungle Book was one of my favourite things to RP, and I had a large collection of plastic animals that we would create intricate stories with. As soon as I could draw, I would make up animals and draw those. I also drew anthro animals constantly. Good times.
When I was 12, two things happened. I awoke to my therianism. It wasn't a big thing to me. It explained what I'd been going through forever, as well as showed me that I wasn't alone. I liked that... I would wear cat ears and tails often, and I hennaed jaguar spots onto myself in the summer. It was partially out of a desire to be inhuman, and party out of a desire to bring myself closer to my life totem - also the jaguar, oddly. The other thing that happened was I had my first RP character that was a part of me. Her name was Krystal, and she was an anthro fox.
A lot of stuff happened between 12 and 16, but suffice to say that it helped in its own way. I had been wearing my animal apparel often, been drawing them quite a lot and really been a furry all along. And then I joined my first furry community. I knew about the furry fandom - I just had to admit it to myself first. So I joined, and I fell in love. It was another group of people kind of like me! :3
And I'm still here today.
Still, it took a good deal of... Well, luck, really, to find my fursona. I'm not a very... easily represented, if you will, person, even with all the options the furry community offers. So, while I loved a great deal of the characters I had, I rather gave up on ever having a real fursona. About a week after I'd given up, I drew something in English class. A catboy, sort of. More importantly, a *Cheshire* Catboy. And from there, things just fell into place. It was really nice, finally being able to say "Hi, I'm Alcide - a Cheshire Cat." And, of course, now I know what sort of costume I want to make! X3

:peek: When I was little I used to run around barking and howling. When I got older I started liking big cats, Tigers being my favorite. In school I used to sit and draw animals(until my teacher got mad, flipped my desk over and threw out all my drawings) I've always loved animals I grew up with them, when I was younger I used to bring home strays or if someone I knew didn't want their pets I'd take them. I even went to the poultry slaughter house and brought home chicks, ducklings, and a few quail( I didn't have enough money to get the bunnies) I would then take care of them and find suitable homes for them all. At one point we had:
2 parakeets
4 quail
6 dogs
3 cats
1 tarantula
2 geckos
1 ferret
2 chicks
1 duckling
1 ball python(still have him)
1 iguana
I just couldn't help seeing an animal out in the streets or be witness to one thats about to be abondoned.
My family thinks I'm an oddball.

I've always loved and admired cats. But I've always been a Sonic person. Guess I always wondered if I could become some kind of Furry, or "mobian" if you will, what would I be? What powers/abilities would I have?
I also decided to turn a character and a concept into a furry.
It's all very complicated though, I'm not sure how it all happened.
I'm just...me. And that's it. And I indentify myself with the cat. So there you go.

Well anyway, I've always been a cat nut.  If I play in an RPG I always look for a cat-race to play if it's available. I indentify myself with cats. But I think it's really being in the Sonic Fandom that got me into it.
Of course I don't like Sonic as much as I used to though...
Edit: Of course I used to ask what kind of animal I would be to people. Maybe that's part of the contributing factor :p

Well, all my life I have been interested in animals. I think it was when I was around 3 or so that I started to draw anthros(even though I didnt know it was called that). Whenever my friends were over at my house, I begged them to play dog/cat/fox/whatever I had on the mind. Just last year I started to l00k up gene transfering because of a book I read, and came across some cartoons and comics with "furries". I have had an account on imvu for a while, but had gotten bored with what they had to offer and I wanted something NEW...I was searching for fox one day on the catalog page and came across waltzing mouses "fox skin". I wore that for awhile, until I found one of razi's furs. I went to look at her catalog and was amazed! My dreams had half-way come true! (ask me for the other half xD) I immediately bought the bundle and have been an fox ever since!

hmm.... now that I though about it alot of the credit goes to Disney movies my family collected foreign and american disney movies my favorite was Robin Hood and fox and the hound. Later when I was about 8-10 I started watching digimon and immediatly loved the digimon characters. My favorite digimon has I mean has to be Renamon. Later When I was about 12 or so I started watching wolf's rain but the real takeoff to furry obsession was when I joined imvu after being disappointed from a few games I looked at razi's skins I was immediately in love. I bought Black males wolves skin and immediatley loved the feeling. My very first friend when I started was a kitsune and that really inspred me to become a furry and here i am now with furry forums.
