Title: Share an unpopular opinion!
Post by: Silaluk on March 05, 2016, 11:17:54 PM
Just as the title says. An explanation would be nice too

I'd prefer if we kept harmful discussion or fighting out of this thread. You may talk about or explain your opinion, but please don't pick a fight. I made this so people can express their opinions without hate or serious discussion. If you must fight, PLEASE take it elsewhere!

To start this off, I'm going to say that I don't really care for anime. I don't hate it, I just never had the chance to watch it until very recently.

I think "triggers" are mostly used to give people an excuse to be angry at someone for something minor.

I don't believe in good or evil. Fake concepts as far as I'm concerned.

I think kids are trying too hard to grow up too fast these days. Too many are worried about social issues and other problems, rather than actually developing themselves or well, enjoying being a kid. I was very mature when I was younger, but I could still have fun.

Also, 7 out of 10 times I can't stand when people preach about equality. Usually what they end up referring to is instead of bringing everyone to the same level, it's all about giving every minority priority and a crutch, while handicapping "Cis-Gender, Straight, White Males/Females." It's like nowadays it's not about Rights, it's about Special Rights. And that's not equality.

I agree. Equality should be the equality of EVERYONE. However I guess most people prefer the Orwell quote. "All animals are equal, just some are more equal than others."

It just crosses me as super hypocritical how stereotypical and "unequal" most of the people who preach about it can be. And god forbid you decide to speak out against it, you'd immediately be labeled an "Everything-Phobe." I can understand being passionate about a cause, but don't be asinine about it. That's why most people can't take them serious to begin with :V

I support legal wolf hunting.

That doesn't mean I support wolf poaching, they're completely different.

You have both made me hungry and curious to try something new, that and made me wonder where in the UK I could get wolf meat.

O.T: I think wrong opinions exist. Specifically, if an opinion is largely unfounded with little to nothing to back it up and then is presented as a fact, it's probably wrong.

It needs to be tenderized, but I don't eat it often. I only eat it when other game is scarce, plus I kind of feel like I'm betraying my wolf-dog, haha.

I believe in objective good and evil, everything else in this thread I agree with absolutely as of post 7 (when I started typing). The ability for people to be triggered by honest questions, mistakes, and bluntly by things that should have no bearing on anything, and the... regressive, attempts at equality, could both, ironically, sink real efforts at equality. Not only by giving actual bigots more ammo ("Black people are being given extra liberties! Can't you see how unfair that is for us white people who are in our own nation!") but its making its alienating people who want to support equal rights, drowning them out under a tide of "Triggered". there are people out there who are growing MORE racist due to these so called "SJWs"

the fact that on this very forum I was told "Black people can't be racist" SICKENS me to the core.

To add my own thing, on a similar subject, I honestly only acknowledge 3 genders, male, female, neither/Agender. Its not that I have an issue with people who claim to be "Gender fluid" or "Gender queer" or "Bigender" or whatever, its just that I honestly don't care, and will just use They/them rather than trying to learn an endless tide of meaningless genders, many of which ARE invented just for attention.

All I care about is he/she/they, everything else is a waste of time to everyone except yourself. equally, most men don't walk around screaming about the fact they are men Outside of football matches and other sport, and most women don't make a big deal out of being women, if you are some rarer gender, same thing should apply if you want equal treatment surely?

As for wolf hunting, totally neutral, i don't know enough.

I am a little tempted to ask about those views, besides polytheism, I know what that means, but don't feel this thread is the place. No one likes a derailed thread.

O.T: I'm rather Anti-consumerist. As in I hate the whole materialistic, "I gotta buy me that latest Iphone so people won't judge me" etc culture we have going on in the first world.

Let me explain, as someone who has been up close and personal with wolves and I've shot a few down myself.

Wolves can be used for many different things. Their fur is used for clothing and pelts, their fangs for jewelry and rituals, bones can be used for tools, organs can be donated to research facilities, and their meat is considered a delicacy in my area and in my culture.

Hunting wolves prevents their numbers from growing too large and potentially damaging the herds of deer and elk, and they also surplus kill. Surplus killing happens when a species hunts more animals than they can eat, which upsets the balance of the environment.

Though many people will tell you that the wolves are "innocent", they are quite harmful to the environment if left unchecked.
Just like any species, really.

OT: Going along with Andger, I really hate made-up pronouns like "xe, xen" and "fae". I also hate it when otherkins use pronouns.

I don't think saying "retarded" is that big of a deal.

funnily enough, this is instinctively what I felt, letting any species grow too powerful in an area causes issues.

Of course us humans know nothing about that :P

I personally believe that long time love, as in like life long love or anything over say 10 years, is truly impossible and just needlessly tying yourself down. As far as I can tell it always breaks down and there's always some struggle to preserve it which makes both sides very bitter. Easier and better for everyone to just break it off on friendly terms, maybe take a break from each other and if possible reconnect as friends.

That's why technologically fueled (and controlled) evolution are so important. But no. People won't ever accept it. That makes me so mad!
Like human augmentation through technology and genetics and such?

Vegetarians/vegans that shove their beliefs down my throat kind of piss me off. I'm not a huge part of the consumerist society who eats cows/chickens/pigs that were stuffed with GMO'd corn before getting sliced and diced by machines with their thousands of brethren. I eat what I catch and I forage, with the occasional Arby's chicken tenders and mozzarella sticks.

Can confirm this is, objectively, untrue, my parents still love each other after a VERY long time. Its not as common as fiction paints it, and most relations break down. Maybe if we were immortal all would, but a relation lasting 20, 30, 40, or even 60 years, is fully possible. I can confirm this from it happening within my family.

Yes. I am a post- and trans-humabist and firmly believe that we have reached a crucial point in our equilibrium with our environment. We either accept the fact that we have to control ourselves (which may sound pretty harsh, I admit it) or go extinct.

I honestly prefer the first option.

I find it amusing this topic comes up the day after I start playing Dues-Ex.

I would feel the same but I have a hard time convincing myself it'll happen. I do hope it does though. Then again I turn to the ethical side of things and all the ethical problems it would cause. Which boths excite me as I love delving into ethical problems and frighten me because that means stupid people will develop stupider opinions on stuff.

O.T: "There are no dumb questions only, stupid answers." Oh? Well are there any dumb questions?

truly impossible

As far as the whole, genetic/electronic engineering in humans, I seriously doubt it will happen in our lifetimes, and have doubts if it should really happen at all, electronics are far too easy to hack, there have already been incidents where someones pacemaker could be controlled remotely, now imagine if you could hack someones whole body... *shudder*

Genetic engineering is longterm better, but means experimenting on people over a long period of time, likely people who have to be experimented on before they are even born... so... morally dubious in the extreme.

If it was something such as genetic splicing in order to fix an otherwise uncurable condition and that was somehow the side effect, then I wouldn't care. If that was their initial motivation though, then my god would I be annoyed at the waste it'd be.

I believe actions speak significantly louder than words.

All the time I see people saying "I'm incredible", "I'm smart", "I'm good at X", but then have absolutely nothing to show for it. People will always blame something else for their failures, like "My friend did X", or "My teacher was a jerk" or "The economy is really bad".

Yes, they're all valid problems, but for people who have succeeded and have done something that you weren't able to do, they had the same problems and the same trials. If you have nothing to show for X, then you're not good at X, plain and simple. If you're "smart" but have bad grades, or haven't done any cool projects, or haven't achieved anything great, then you're not smart. If you're "Creative' but haven't written anything or published any music, or art, or stories, then you're not good at creative subjects. You're not good at anything until you actually have something to show for it.

Sled dogs don't make as good as pets as people think they do, especially not for first-time dog owners, who always remark on how magnificent they are.

Yes, they are very beautiful and loyal dogs, but they are very high-energy. You can't leave them home alone for more than a couple hours at a time, or else they make mischief or start to get agitated.

The same thing goes for wolf-dogs. My wolf-dog is only 25% dog but she is still a wild animal, essentially. You can't domesticate wolves in one century.

So, since a lot of people seem to hate this: I don't mind games getting HD remakes. Actually, I love it! It lets the new generation get to play those old gems that we enjoyed as kids, and even with a better look. Sure it's not exactly like we played it, but I don't care. Some old consoles and games can be difficult to get. Sure, you can just search them up on Ebay or Amazon, but it's much easier to just go down to your local store and buy a Nintendo 3DS and the Ocarina of Time HD remake.
I've heard people say "Just leave it to the old consoles" and "they're just ruining the games". No, they're not. They're letting the new generation of gamers experience what we played, and since a lot of kids nowadays seem to think that graphics play a big role in good games, they're just upgrading them.

I feel like although it is not a good thing for Russia to be fighting in Ukraine, it is not really any worse than the following American wars: the Spanish American war, the Mexican American war, etc. Both just countries expanding, just at different times in history.

This is not a thread about politics so I'll keep it short.

Guys, as a political sciences and economics student I can say that the things Trump says are not only offensive and shallow, they're also bullshit. Simple as that. He has no idea what he'says talking about, whatsoever. He's a horrible businessman, a horrible politician and a horrible person, and he would make a horrible president.

It has nothing to do with "being nazis" (I don't think you are, by the way) or such. Trump is just an ass.

If you think what Trump says is bullshit, get a load of Sander's single payer healthcare, and free education! We cannot pay for that, even with his outrageous tax plans!

At high school, I am indeed called a Nazi though.

Saying that someone else has bad arguments (some of Sander's are, some aren't) doesn't lend yours more strength. Trump is still saying a whole lot of nonsense. When he'a at his best, that is.

A lot of nonsense? Many things he says makes perfect sense!

Wall of Mexico- Less illegal immigration, causing more jobs for legal immigrants and citizens who pay taxes

Economics- Wants to tax companies who ship jobs to China. That causes either more tax revenue or more jobs (Depends on the choice of companies)

Here in Denmark, we have free healthcare, free education, free elderly care (I think), and basically every social service here is free.
We have a tax on about 35% though, if I remember correctly, but we're doing fine. Oh, and also, we get paid for going to college. And no, you don't have to pay it back.

Should someone make a politics thread? 'Cause this is getting kinda out of paw.

As someone who lives in the UK free healthcare is entirely possible. The reason you probably don't think so is probably down to the fact the U.S is so dominated by conservatives, who for some reason think giving the public services that should be free for free is a terrible idea.

On the subject of Trump, now this may be my socialism showing but, I personally feel sick about the idea a businessman would be able to run a country.

That and he's an idiot. You'd think the U.S would learn to stop electing morons after doing it TWICE with good ol' Dubya Bush Junior but eh.

Those aren't unpopular opinions but maybe they are to someone somewhere.

I've gotta be honest, I really don't like "mobile" gaming. On cell-phones.

I've tried tons of times to pick up a game and play it on my phone, but I can't. I just can't. None of them really appeal to me, the quality is, well, cell-phone quality. The top games are typically pay-to-play. Sure you can emulate or pick up ported titles like Knights of the Old Republic, but I'm just gonna end up playing those on my PC or the original consoles.

I'd much rather have to carry around a 3DS and a Phone, than just my phone, if it means having to play.

I completely agree with you, Nrein. I really don't like cell-phone games, and I prefer hand held console far more. Plus, I feel like cell-phone games are kinda overrated, I guess. I mean, I see them in Youtube adds all the time.

Unpopular opinion (well at least around where I live): I don't like the hip music nowadays. I really don't like a lot of the songs the music artists make, and my classmates listen to it all the time. It's only very few songs that I kinda like, but that's it.

To go off of that, I don't enjoy 90% of the female singers we get today, mainly the ones that get all the attention.

They all sound the same. I remember when female singers used to have their own distinct voices, but nowadays it's like they all need to sound like Adele.

It literally sounds like they're out of breath half the time. That's why I much prefer the local singer/songwriter crowd when it comes to females, as opposed to the big names.

Let's just forget about that, and move on

Unpopular opinion: I like Samsung much more than I like Apple. Apple is WAY overprised on things that are not even near worth the money, they sell it for. Plus, when it comes to phones, I feel like Samsung is more innovative, and functional. I like how they have an instant "back" and "settings" button at all times, at the bottom of the phone. Plus, they make more innovative designs. Sure, the Samsung Galaxy S6 looks exactly like the iPhone 6, but don't forget about the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge. And the Galaxy S7 Edge, for crying out loud.

People I know worship the Metal Gear Solid franchise, but honestly I can't stand the games. I've always hated the slow, gun-based gameplay, the characters, the monochromatic graphics, and a lot of other things. Every time I say why I dislike the games, it's legions of fans telling me "You haven't played the games" or getting down my throat about how I'm wrong for not liking the franchise.

Depends entirely on the Youtube channel. Pewdiepie sure, but others can be a lot more thoughtful and decent (totalbiscuit springs to mind, though he very rarely does full playthroughs of anything.)

Also ultimately, if you still go back to watch them, is it really garbage? :P

2. You are weak for needing to be in a relationship 24/7 as in jumping from one romantic partner to the next.

Unpopular opinion: I prefer Pepsi over Coke. Big time.

(Late response. Sorry bout that.)

1. Problem is, one of our middle brackets would be 50% under his tax plan :/
2. Paid for colledge? Are you also paid for homework? (Think I heard that somewhere)
3. Politics thread? Gr8 plan m8.
4. Oh yes, Pepsi for the win

Title: Re: Share an unpopular opinion!
Post by: Silaluk on March 07, 2016, 09:03:27 PM
I'm kind of neutral on police and military. I've only had one major problem, but the officers who are around my area all seem to be very just in their actions. Maybe it's different in bigger cities, but I think the people around here get mad at them just because they're doing their job right and the crime-committers can't blame anything on them. XD  But the police did manage to catch a person who took advantage of me, so I'm very grateful for that.

As far as military goes--it isn't right for people to abuse their title, but it also isn't fair to those who risked and sacrificed their life to prevent our country from being nuked, and aren't asses about it.

I despise "tribal" tattoos. They are ugly, boring, and extremely overrated. They look like someone colored you with a Sharpie and there is no "unique" tribal tattoo.

If you want to get one, fine, but I think it's actually kind of insulting if you aren't part of a "tribe". My Inupiat chin tattoo is much cooler. Simpler, but so much more meaningful. People just get them because they look "cool" or whatever.

I don't care if you have one on your fursona, but I won't really talk to you first if I saw that you had one before I got to know you.

A few lines from the lips to the jaw denote puberty and it also signifies that a woman is marriageable. I didn't put it on my profile because many people think facial tattoos are the flag of the unemployed.

Men get tattoos on their face as well, usually for hunting and war records. There are special tattoos for men if they kill a man or a whale.

Also, I'm kind of jaded by some modern art stuff. I respect time, effort, and ideas but sometimes things get really pretentious. I rarely have a profound meaning behind things, I just make stuff because I like to. Also, the prices on some pieces... Pollock, I'm looking at you.

I mean it's cool and all that I can get married now but it's not THAT big of a deal. Why didn't people and the media make that much noise about much bigger issues here in Burgerland like wealth disparity, NSA spying, corruption in government and companies or issues in other parts of the globe like ISIS? Stuff which affects much more people more strongly than marriage inequality.

Ok warning to those who get offended easily.
I don't like the fact that people get offended with tragic events. For example the U.S such as 9/11, stuff like that. America has done nasty shit to get where we are today. We are all **censor** up and done terrible things to one another, some well hidden. Honestly there is no good side! Yes, I feel bad for the people, but not for all the countries.
Another thing is 'racism' gets annoying hearing people getting offended (often taking it to court. Some using it as an advantage). How about this... We're all human beings. Now stop the whining and causing drama.

People who think they're better than anyone else for any reason, pisses me off to no end.

If you have a problem with someone younger than you, remember that you were that age once too.

If you look down on how someone acts in a certain situation, you better be perfect in everything else you do.

If you refuse to talk to or interact with someone just because they're different from you in any way, you disgust me.

"Hah, she's just a dumb blonde"
"He doesn't have a girlfriend, he must be gay"
"She doesn't dress like us, she must be lesbian"
"Oh shit, that black guy is probably  going to rape me"
"Avoid that Arab, he's probably got a bomb"
"That homeless guy stinks, what a waste of space"

This is why there is racism and why it will never be solved, because people look at what they see and judge based on stereotypes.

Racism, sexism, and basically every other prejudice, is caused by people thinking "us versus them". People seem to love making villains, regardless of if its justified. Racism, sexism, and stupid religious wars, will only truly end when there is another bigger, more obvious "Them" we can fight/hate instead.

I think it was one of the discworld books that commented that nobody would care if your black or white, when the person down the road is a troll, and made of rock. ((Paraphrased in a big way, I can't remember the exact line))

In all honestly, I feel kind of the opposite ^^' I've been using the internet unsupervised since I was at least 10. Maybe I was just pretty responsible and knew what things I shouldn't do I guess. It's helped me learn a lot of things I wouldn't know otherwise, develop my interests and find new ones, and connect to other people. Sure, there's lots of bad stuff too(though I don't consider 'adult material' to be "bad" unless it's illegal or you're underage viewing it tbh) but the key is knowing how to deal with or avoid such stuff.

The ME morality system isn't too bad. I like that it's tied to a persuasion system. If you're known to be a well-respected example of virtue you have an easier time inspiring people to do the same. Same thing goes if you're an enormous dick everyone hates, it just comes easier to piss people off and scare them.
But I still don't like how opposed the system is. You are either an LG Paladin, or the greatest a-hole the galaxy has ever seen. Can't I be something in between and STILL get the best abilities and persuade people?

Reharding christian churches, I actually like the catholic the least. It is tied so mach to formal practices which aren't in the scriptures. Just because some Pope a couple of centuries ago said so. They believe in everything the Pope says, while he is still a person and can make mistakes. That's just stupid.
For a Rpg, it severely limits roleplaying. Why they didn't just make it a speech skill. It's not like this game can't have you making character personalities. Hell, I'm playing the game completely disregarding it and I'm enjoying it more. Is the ME the worst one? No, it being tied to speech is annoying but there are worse. Like Fallout. I'm not even going to talk about it to be completely honest, but it's one thing I'm glad it's gone.

I'm against the Catholic hierarchy, not saying otherwise, but the churches are beautiful. Everything piece of art I think it's beautiful, the paintings, statues and architecture. Even if it was for the most part built by the corruption, it's outstanding. Other churches, at least in Brazil, look like warehouses more than anything. Guess I'm too much of a picky snob :/

I think zoophilia/bestiality is far from wrong; consent is clearer in other animals, because they don't feel the need to avoid the social pressure to have sex. Plus, they won't hesitate to scratch and kick and bite if you do something that don't like.

This so much.

The issue is there is NO WAY to prove it. While you could argue its obvious, said animals can be "trained" (Read, abused) to do things they do not wish to do, and if there IS abuse happening the proper protections are not in place, and indeed, cannot exist efficiently. This is without discussing the health concerns (Both mental and physical) for both members of such a relationship.

In addition sexual relations require equal power between both members except where power is given up willingly, in the case of animal/human relations, this is impossible. This opens up the possibility of the relationship becoming abusive, possibly even by accident, and in such an instance, there would be no way of verifying if this has or hadn't happened within a relationship.

It all comes down to consent, and an animal CANNOT give consent that would pass in a court of law. "They looked like they wanted it" is not acceptable, and probably also a quote from several convicted rapists, and before you say "Common sense" let me point you back to the first paragraph, how do you prove the dog was not abused to make it more willing for sex?

...

Oh, and of course it's an animal your trying to **censor**... that is kinda gross

((Yes, I know that last argument is super weak, and not even a real argument, but it had to be said.))

One I've gotten into debates with a lot of people over;

I don't think children under the age of 3 (or 4 depending) should be allowed in most restaurants and movie theaters. Yeah, bring your kid to McDonalds, whatever. They usually have playplaces for them.

But if I'm going into, say, a movie theater, or an actual decent eating establishment, I don't want it marred by the presence of screaming/whining/crying children. I hate it when people bring like a 2 year old to the movies at 9PM, it starts screeching like crazy, and then it consists of them yelling at the child to stop while people are trying to watch the movie.

How do you prove a human wasn't abused to "make it more willing for sex"? You talk about animals like they have no minds of their own.

If you love animals, you'd pay attention to their health and happiness. If you don't love animals, this subject is irrelevant to you because you wouldn't want to partake in these sorts of activities in the first place.

And that did not have to be said; what you find attractive does not dictate right and wrong.  You're just being rude.

I will be honest, I think this kind of discussion is actually valuable, while I think its a no brainer, stopping and explaining why is a useful exercise. It allows an understanding of WHY you, and society, believe what you believe, and removes logical fallacies and automatic reactions, (though the latter is still worth nothing, as such feeling are usually shared among large groups)

And that did not have to be said; what you find attractive does not dictate right and wrong.  You're just being rude.

The first point is true, there are people out there who HAVE been "Trained" for sex. Its called human trafficking. However it is easier to identify, as we know people better than animals. equally, to truly "Train" anything, you really need them from birth, with humans, this is illegal in most places unless you are a parent, or otherwise legally told to look after a child. For an animal, this is just a case of how many kittens/puppies you can adopt/buy off their owners. No laws broken. Put simply, its not just possible to train an animal, ITS EASY, and can be done under the radar with ease, Human trafficking is difficult, and is very easy to get caught with.

The second point is just plain fictitious, people LOVE power, **censor** an animal grants a degree of power. Then there are groups who use having sex with an animal as a form of initiation, or dare, finally, you have people who simply don't care about their mates, it happens in human/human couples, in fact it is far more common than anyone is willing to admit, people rape their human partners, people beat their human partners. Love is not always Loving. Here, the humans being abused have the full power to work against it, but choose not to, or feel they can't. How is an animal going to last in these situations? They have no defense, they have no protection.

The third point... you know what, your probably right, but for 99.9% of the civilized population that is the instinctive reaction, granted not all instincts are correct (Hating gays was instinctive for many people), but here I think nature, and society, have hit the nail right on the head, Animals and humans should not mix in that way.

Not that I agree with the initial opinion but I'd have to say that, in regards to the purpose of the thread, it doesn't really matter how civilization views it. If they didn't have a negative reaction to it, it probably wouldn't be an unpopular opinion to begin with. Like you said, hating gays was instinctive for many people, and to those people, it was viewed the same way; that according to nature and society, same-sexes shouldn't mix.

Same thing could be said with how inter-racial mixing was once viewed, and any other sort of issue that was similar. Not that I'm saying we need a "Zoophile-Rights" movement, but hopefully I'm getting my point across, considering it's 9:30 .w.

Instincts exist for a reason, while you should not feel enslaved to them, you are a fool not to pay attention, if you like I view instinct as the "default" that arguments and facts have to change.

Post by: Nrein on March 13, 2016, 02:41:53 AM
I'm not saying they shouldn't exist or should be ignored, but I'm also saying that instinct shouldn't be the first thing to dictate how you react to a situation, or in this case, a persons preference/life choice.

It's funny to think that, for example, in the majority of society today, Suicide is viewed negatively. Instinct would be that, well, you should want to survive. But Suicide is a very personal thing, and in fiction, and in some non-fiction, has been shown as something that could be, or should be, acceptable, in certain situations.

Beastiality, while society instinctually believes it shouldn't be right, *could* be acceptable in certain situations. I couldn't really tell you what situations because again, it's not something that's for me, and something I don't casually research when I've nothing better to do, but I honestly don't see the difference. I don't think instinct is a valid argument as to why it is right or wrong.

In regards to this whole zoo thing. Its no secret that I support it so I'll give you all something to chew on.

Lets look at the consent thing. Humans and other animals are undeniable different. We both have emotions, but there are differences. To treat an animal as a human, is wrong, just as its wrong to to treat a human as another animal. I'm not saying that this means that you can treat them badly, but you should know the difference. You wouldn't keep a human as a pet in your house after buying them from a store. Theres a lot of things that you would do to animals and not people, or vice versa.

That being said, animals consent differently than humans. Its just on a different level. If they don't like it, they will make it known, by biting yipping or trying to get away. Its quite obvious if they are interested and willing. Humans put an immense amount of feelings and emotions on sex, most other animals do not.

A cow doesn't care if you milk it, a human would. Comparing the two is the wrong way to look at it.

I could go on, but I think I said all that I needed too.

Also, If anyone wants to talk to me about it, feel free to PM me :) I think respectful discussions are always good.

We don't know if cows like to be milked.

We have zero idea at all what animals are thinking, they don't have to react to show they don't like something maybe they're just obeying their master because they're loyal?

You cannot possibly say they are interested or willing.

An animal cannot give consent what so ever, full stop. No matter how they react.

I mean, look at how dogs mate. The male kind of just does his thing no matter what his mate does, the whole process keeps her from escaping. Zoos treat them wayyyy better than that.

It should've stopped a long time ago. This thread isn't about debating unpopular opinions, it's about expressing them. Let's just move on instead of letting another thread about personal expression get closed because people can't deal with the opinions of others.
