Title: Exploration: Vatamos.
Post by: anonsucks117 on December 29, 2015, 12:57:08 AM
Welcome to Vatamos. A land where furries of all kinds live, thrive, explore, and progress. From the moutain highlands of The Fanged King, the valleys and forests of The mystic circle, and the beaches of The wave riders, all is open to explore and enjoy! This is a time of peace in Vatamos with the innivations of steam technology such as automatic rifles, tesla generators, the steam engine and the airship. its easier and safer than ever to explore, travel and seek your fourtune anyway you choose! But be warned. Vatamos is also still to be feared. Pirates lurk the sky and sea. while bandits, raiders, and cults, can be lurking where you least expect them. so travel in a group or go it alone. But you have been warned.

Starting point breakdowns: here is a break down of the lands a player can choose to start in!

1. The Highlands. A harsh moutainious region generally populated by bears, wolves, and foxes. Players who choose to start here will start in Mountain Gate. The fortress city ruled with an iron claw by The Fanged king. A harsh city to be sure but more powerful weapons, better made airships, or harder forged steel you will not find. Weapon shops here are the best and most high acclaimed and jobs here are high paying and difficult.

2.The Valley Forests of the Mystics. A lush dense forest region close to the Highlands. Its a realm deeply cloaked in mystery and magic. Players who start here will start in Circle City. A largely academic town ran by the 4 mystics. Hooded mysterious figures. The city is a more upscale sort and the jobs here are lower paying than most cities and are generally simple. but training, upgrades ,potions and medicines here are more than worth the money.

3.Wave Rider Beaches.
Unlike the other lands Wave Rider Beach is a varitable paradise and a trade power house of ports and airship docks. If you need it. They have it. For much better prices than youll find anywhere. The jobs here are medium paying and there are alot of them. Everything you need is here..just maybe not the quality you want. Players who start here will end up in Dock Port city. The city has no leadership The orginal inhabitants are known as the wave riders and they want no leading role or part in how the city is ran. They are carefree. Non violent and fun loving. Even the nastiest criminal wouldnt dare kill a wave rider. But this means the city pretty much governs itself. Crimes here are usually delt with the offender ir the victim dead in the ocean. And there is a lot of crime.

Notes: Any place in or between cities is able to be travled to if a player is willing and ready! Exploration is the name of the game!

The fox rounded the corner in a hurry, knocking over a few crates full of exotic fruits, sending them spilling across the street as he rushed away from the scene. Sweat was collecting on his face, his eyes darting around in a panic as he searched for something, anything, to slow down his pursuer. He didn't dare look behind him, at a full dash down the narrow street.
Bvvvvvmmmmmmmmmmrrrrrr!

The deep bass sound reverberated through the air, and the fox quickly stalled his momentum, pulling up short of a wall of air that was visibly shimmering, the sandstone road beneath it quaking and splintering in places. Despite himself the vulpine turned his head. Everyone in the vicinity was looking his way, but they were not looking at him. No, the eyes were on the heavily armored binturong that was strolling up behind him. One gauntlet-clad paw was outstretched, a subtle mist of dark purple and black wafting from the palm and digits.

With a fearful yelp the fox turned to run, knowing full well what would happen when he was caught. The stolen coins weighing down his back pocket had been constant reminder. He maned to take a single step into the shimmering air before he realized his error. Before he could comprehend what had happened his leg had bent over almost double, his entire body pitching forward with a sudden and unexpected vehemence. He found his face and chest pressed into the stone, that same bass-heavy noise filling his head like a roar now. He couldn't move, couldn't escape, couldn't breathe. He tried to struggle but he could hardly muster the strength to keep his eyes open, everything felt like it was being sucked towards the ground with violent, nearly bone-breaking force.

Then suddenly the pressure was gone, and he heaved a great gasp of air. His pursuer was all but forgotten in that brief moment, until a heavy boot came down on his back, and he felt the coin purse being pulled form his pocket. He didn't even bother to turn around, fully expecting a blade to end his life right then and there. Instead, he just heard a noise like a scoff. A voice that reminded him of dark velvet and smooth whiskey spoke in what seemed like an otherwise silent world. "Consider this your second chance. You do not get a third." The boot lifted from his back, and he felt the scrape of metal as a gauntlet grabbed the scruff of his dirty shirt and hoisted him to his feet. His eyes met those of the black-furred creature that held him, dark amber and full of reproach.

Without another word the grip loosened no his shirt and the eyes reflected a hint of expectation, hope perhaps, before the armored man turned around and walked back the way he had come, ignoring the stares of those around and tossing the purse of coins casually in one paw.

Skyla watched from a perch. She was a rather beautiful fox if she did say so herself he red coat glowed with a silky sheen like she was liquid fire. And the whit tatoos that matched her fur and ice blue eyes perfectly. She slung her rail gun reciporcating piston rifle over her shoulder and slid down from her sniper nest.  She carried a parcel for the arnired one. The walking Armageddon of dpc they called him. Her master need her to give him this. They needed his help. She chewed her bottom lip as she almost lost whete he went in the hustle and bustle of the massive port city. She finally spotted him again "hey! Hey mr!" she called racing after him "hey!!!"

It was mid-day as a white wolf wearing brigandine-style clothes, ending an agreement to sell off his old armorer business to an older grey wolf, having a rucksack and a pack of his equipment that he was going to take with himself near his feet.  "You are striking a hard bargain, but fine. I intended to move and hopefully your buying this place will get me enough supplies to find a new place anyways." the white wolf spoke as he signed the deed and handed it over before receiving a sack of gold in return. "There's more opportunity out there in this world due to technology advancing." he added with a wave as he gathered his equipment up and headed towards the Mountain Gate.

A young albino lion carefully wove between the obscene number of book stacks that stood between him and his target. The sheets of parchment he carried softly fluttered thanks to the sheer speed at which he moved, the only thing keeping them in one piece being the magic they had been imbued with many years ago. Personally he would have preferred they had been hardbound, making it far easier to ferry such a large volume about, but the various mages that made use of this library had strongly contested such an idea.

He rolled his eyes at that thought. To this day he still could not understand why they had decided it would be easier on everyone to make it harder on the librarians. Perhaps they had a sense of humor he simply could not appreciate, though he sincerely doubted that was the case. Scoffing, he finally rounded the last case and approached the synthetic seated at the table swiftly. With little ceremony or thought, he dumped the documents down beside the creature and used one of the books they were not looking at yet as a paper weight.

"Anything else?"

Arias glanced to the lion when he spoke, his claw stopping at the end of a sentence he had been reading. If the paper had not been given such protections when this place was first built, it was likely his talon would have pierced straight through it. "No." His eyelids drooped ever so slightly and his mouth pulled into a thin line, carefully considering the kid. "Thank you for your patience and effort in retrieving these for me."

Taken aback, the librarian blinked once before he understood what had been said. Bowing his head, he smiled ever so slightly. "You're, ah, quite welcome." Then he was off once more, back a little straighter and shoulders squared. Someone was quite pleased with themselves.

Turning his attention back to the documents at hand, Arias could not help the little grin that danced across his lips. That fellow likely thought Arias was showing him an inkling of gratitude and even kindness, something few mages that frequented this library would even think to do. The truth was far different from that perceived reality, but he was not one to say otherwise; especially if it happened to put him into their good graces. After all, he needed everything he could get after his proposals blew up in his face.

"They have chosen wealth over understanding," he murmured and resumed reading. Of course, he was never going to give them a chance to change their stance on alternative theories. He had every intent to leave Circle City behind and research the possibilities he had uncovered out in the field instead, resuming his exploration of the world and what had changed since he first circled the planet.

Bolt sat in the airship and looked over at his twin sister Nut. They were docked in the moutain gate port and waiting on some traveler that was aparently moving. The charter company was paying for everything so this was obviously a favor to him, and if the money hadnt been so good bolt would have turned it down he had cargo he was itching to unload in dock port city. But theyd take this guy where ever he needed to go. The young blue dragon shivered. He just hoped the guy would hurry up. It was cold in the highlands. And dangerous.

“Aye, wouldn't you like to sit on my lap, lass?!” The voice echoed over the general murmuring – which was a feat in and of itself given how loud the tavern was in general – It was no doubt drunk at this point given how boisterous and eager it was to get what it wanted. The large bear reached out and grabbed the waitress by her skirt – the poor vixen letting out a small yelp as she was pulled closer to the man, the tray of drink she carried being no match for gravity and the force she'd be jerked to the side with. Drinks spilled both on her and the pirate, and the man let out another one of those obnoxious laughs as she seemed to attempt to struggle away.

The vixen was clearly shaken by the action, doing her best to keep her skirt up despite the current situation as she finally freed herself from the man's grasp. “Keep your hands to yourself, you sea dog!” she finally shouted, attempting to smooth out her dress and keep the pirate's paws off of her. She was soaked – and with all the ale on her, the dress clung to her in the most inconvenient ways, giving way to her form in all its glory.

The bear eyed her up and down with a grin, “I bet yer a might bit pretty under all them clothes, honey,” he continued, and without warning, swatted the vixen on the rear when she bent down to gather her tray and the glasses that littered the floor, causing her to drop everything in front of him all over again. He let out another one of those awful laughs as she turned to pick things up again, face red and wrought with indignation beneath her fur.

He'd make another move at her before he'd find his paw snatched up in a stranger's grip. “Aye, I believe she said t' keep yer hands to yerself, laddy.” The figure said, tilting its head at the boisterous pirate. The man was shorter than the bear by a foot or two, but that didn't stop him from holding his paw right where it was. At this, the vixen drew her tray up, as if to cover a gasp and retreated back behind the bar.

“Or what, ya dandy?” The bear growled, finally withdrawing his hand from the stranger's, rubbing it where it had been grasped. It was clear that he wasn't going to simply stop harassing the waitress without good reason – the figure before him not nearly imposing enough to stop him, especially not with the array of unnatural colors the canine sported – red, yellow, and orange. He hardly looked threatening, even if he was dressed like a captain, minus the hat.

Without a moment's hesitation, the figure moved and the pirate found himself looking down the barrel of a pistol, the man stepping forward to allow the bear to see into his unnaturally green eyes. “Or I blow you to smithereens without a second thought, ye lice infested sluggard!” he snarled, pressing the barrel into the bear's nose.

Even with the height difference, the bear seemed to sober up a bit – enough to put his hands up and reevaluate what he was doing. There was no way he'd get a hold on any weapon before the canine would pull the trigger. “Aye!” he started, voice a little smaller, or maybe it seemed smaller now that the canine cocked the weapon, “Oi, calm down, ye've made yer point!” His voice was a bit more frantic as the stranger stood there, unwavering with the gun in his face. “I was only havin' a little fun!”

“If I see you touchin' or harassin' another one of these barmaids, don't think I won't,” the stranger finally spat, removing the gun from the bear's face and re-holstering the weapon on his belt again. “Now act like you got some manners!” With that, the man moved to the bar, eager to talk to to waitress – or at least make sure she was alright.

Syd hadn't paid any mind to the lion beyond watching his shady little exchange with the bear. It was hard not to, given that he'd taken to keeping an eye on the man, intent on his words. He wasn't a fan of men or how they treated women, especially when they were as drunk as the bear was. He'd hardly been able to take a drink when the man went for the vixen again.

“Oi!” The canine shouted, standing up from his seat again. “Serve yer own drink if yer gonna be actin' that way.” He grabbed his gun from his belt and without a second thought shot the hat right off the bear's head. A hush fell over the tavern soon after; the crowd's attention fully on the exchange between the two.

The white wolf made his way to the gate without problem other than a minor delay in arranging for food supplies for the trip and ensuring that he would have enough left over to start up a new business elsewhere. "Let's get on the road." he thought to himself as he got to the port, stepping on board the ship. Once he stepped on, he was looking about for the captain, seeing the dragon. "I believe I'm the one you're looking for. Shall we get preparations to go to Dock Port City underway?" he spoke as he looked to the young dragon, leading up some food suppliers onto the ship.

"Ay thats the plan. Im Bolt." he gestured to himself "and thus is my sister Nut." he pointed at a green female dragon sitting at the co pilots helm. They both wore standared sky pilot attire thick jackets and air masks with rigs made to hold oxygen tanks on thier backs with grey cargo pants that held assortments of tools and wires. "The outer deck is safe to be on when we are under the clouds. So basically at night. This is a high altitude dirigible. During the day well be abobe the clouds so we can avoid pirates. The ships sealed but youll die if you go outside. And finally the bunk rooms are down the hall along with the kitchen and showers. Make a mess clean it up. And youll be expected to help in defense of the ship. Other than that we'll reach dock port in less than 2 days. Sound good?" he asked sticking out his claw to shake. His emerald eyes glowing friendily.

"Vosur Aekira, and I've climbed and lived in high-altitude areas where even most dirigibles can't go, so you don't really die from the lack of air, you just pass out. You would die from the fall caused by passing out in the wrong place, so thanks for the warning." he spoke in correction while shaking Bolt's hand in return. "Also, I've had food for a week for the entire crew loaded on but if I don't find a good location at Dock Port within the first two days, we'll be heading to Circle City next. My business location and my equipment sold will more than easily cover for both trips if absolutely necessary."

The tavern fell silent, the only sound being the hasty steps of the waitress who scurried away, visibly shaken. The bear just let her go and looked the man who just shot his hat off dead in the eye. There was rage and shame in his eyes, but also something else. Some people would have said it was anticipation.
"Bad move" said the bear. He slowly reached behind his back and pulled a small gun out of his belt. "How 'bout a shootin' contest? You and me, outside. Now." The bear looked around, at the people that were staring at the two of them. Then, slowly, gun in hand, he walked backwards towards the door.

Syd didn't move from his place at the bar. In fact, he just cocked his gun again, ready for another shot, this one aimed at the bear's hand – specifically the one that held the gun. So that's what had been handed over – or at least that's what the colorful canine assumed. He smirked. “I think I made meself very clear,” he started, tilting his head at the bear, “I could have just shot ye once already. No duel. No nothin'. I'm not doin' anything but enjoying an ale here without you makin' a scene and harassin' the waitstaff. S'not much to ask really, an' I already gave you a chance.” Now he leaned against the bar, eyes still fixed on the bear. “So I suggest ye sit down and enjoy another brew without touchin' that lass again.”

The canine watched the bear with interest. “As a matter o' fact, no.” He answered. “An' I won't be fallin' for your little push there, either.” Syd wasn't really naive to the ways of men, or how sensitive their masculinity was. He was a bit thankful he had none to speak of. He stood there, gun still fixed until another entered the bar again – it was the lion from earlier. Rather than speak, he listened to their little exchange, head tilted to the side curiously. “Aye, an' who might you be?” The canine finally asked. He swallowed hard – what on earth could the stranger have wanted from him? The man had handed a stranger a gun, intending on it to be used on someone, with that someone being him. “Someone out for my skin?” he asked, wearing a light snarl. Part of him wondered if he'd been found out – if the lion knew that he was in fact, not actually a man.

Keeping his gun on one target was easy enough, but now there were potentially two. “An' I'm sick of his attitude, so that makes us even.” Syd replied to the lion, still side eying the bear. It would take a lot for the canine to simply drop the bone he was gnawing on, especially with how the bear treated the vixen. He'd been there before – men were wicked creatures. His gun remained on the ursidae, even when the lion revealed winked and showed his gun. “An' what're you the judge? I'm many things, but a fool I'm not.” He stepped down from his bar stool and gestured with his gun. “After you, lad.” There was no way he was taking chances, even with the lion's little display – after all, he'd also supplied the bear with the gun. With that, he would tail the back of the two outside, if only to get on with his night.

People in the valley called him the "high land reaper." he was The fanged kings right paw. "The king hopes that you use it well. And apologizes for the delay. He hopes he can call his debt settled." his voice was like sandpaper over broken glass. And a chill seemed to roll through the library.

"Well best go get settled in.  Nut. Show him his bunk. Itll be the last one on the right. Im going to go check with sheila and get us under way." he said as Nut nodded and stood beckoning the wolf to follow. "Sheilas alright by the way. She may seem mean but shes a real nice fox i promise." she said softly. As she placed her hands on the walls and took him down the hall past the mess and showers and a few bunk rooms before stopping and feeling the label on the door. "Ah..here..here we are." she stuttered slightly.

Swiftly scanning through the last few paragraphs, Arias set the document aside with a low snarl and retrieved one of the many pages the librarian had retrieved for him earlier. While he suspected these would only work to provide him with the same information he had gathered a dozen times over, it was better to exhaust every possible avenue of research by comparison to dallying with idle thoughts. Or idle mages for that matter, a number of whom never ceased to infuriate him when they espoused the same systems that had been put into place for years beyond measure. It made him wonder if they even desired to explore the wealth of open ground that lay before them, eagerly awaiting even a single curious mind.

Letting out an exhausted sigh, he was about ready to rest his face on the table or attempt to tear apart the magical parchments when a mysterious figure sidled up next to him. With a hand extended, they set a scroll he had never seen before near his ever-growing pile. Just as this action was taken, a chill that would have bitten to an organics bone rolled through; yet it was powerful enough to even make Arias briefly shudder. Turning his gaze away from the table, he eyed the new figure.

Atramentous was the only word he could think to describe the incredible darkness that seemed to compose his fur. Looking up, white, black-circuited eyes met glowing crimson that bore an indescribable depth. While most would have found this new man sinister to the degree of immediately fleeing in the opposite direction, Arias learned long ago to never turn down help; regardless of the rather unusual package it may come in. Chipped tongue flicking at the air, he carefully retrieved the scroll, but did not yet read its contents as the fox finally spoke.

"The king." Arias cocked his head ever so slightly. He had met a good number that proclaimed themselves the royalty of various lands, but he did not recall a single instance where he had performed an action worthy of procuring such a debt. Let alone from a figure who obviously wielded great power if they were able to employ a creature such as this. Then again, there was an entity he often heard mentioned in hushed whispers among the various mages that used the library. A man who had risen to power in another prominent city, one that he had looked into for a time in order to decide if he should visit their grounds next. A place that he actually intended to go to once he was finished here.

Considering what to do next, he finally decided on bowing his head in response. He was not one to openly give away how unaware of a situation he may be, especially one in which the Fanged King was a responsible party. Instead he rose from his seat, matching the fox in height and possibly surpassing him by a few inches. Now that he was standing, he retrieved the scroll from the table and carefully tucked it into one of the plates that composed his right thigh. While he had every intention to pour over the document in full detail, he felt uncomfortable doing so within the confines of Circle City--let alone before this fox of no name and disconcerting disposition.

"If he wishes to know of what I learn, will communication be maintained in a similar manner?" Arias' eyes narrowed somewhat. While he was fairly certain this comment in and of itself would not give away how completely out of water he felt, he also thought it was a question he was required to ask. If the Fanged King bore interest in what he was researching and possibly intended to utilize it, he required the answer to such a question. Doubly so if this fox was going to be the sole go-between.

"I am to accompany and help in anyway i can. His majesty has heard you are searching for The Vault of The Ancients. And he wishes to allow me to aid you. If any where to try and steal your research..." in a smooth motion that seemed beyond any speed even a powerful warrior would have been able to achive a silver arc slammed into the marble floor with a dull thud and the sound of cracking stone as a scythe blade had sunk half way into the floor. Cutting through the stone like butter. "Im here to show them it would be unwise." shadow then pointed at where the scroll had been placed. "The scroll contains a contract that contains how much the fanged king will pay for any research you find on the ancient vaults to. be shared woth no one but him. It also contains a few pieces to the puzzle only 3 mages in as many centuries have seen and been able to place." and woth that he simply stood at his side silently. As if he had never spoken at all.

"Good. Well the crew is just me and Nut. Well....there is shelia. One moment. OI!SHELIA COME INTRODUCE YOUR SELF YOU LAZY WOLF!" he paused for a moment. "OH BLOW IT OUT YOUR ARSE YEH SCALY OAF FOR I FIX YEH WITH A RIGHT WRENCH UP YAH ARSE!" came an angry reply. Bolt shrugged with a chuckle. "Best mechanic in the open skys and knows how to use a steam sword and a tesla shotgun to great effect. But. Oh whoa is me that sailor mouth shes got." He looked around the cabin.
Vosur watched this interaction between the captain and the mechanic, stifling a chuckle before he follows the lead of the dragoness. "Would be tempting to talk to her, but the etiquette of tool-tinkerer is to not interfere." he spoke his thoughts as he followed, stopping at the door. "How often have you been attacked en-route?  You made mention of requiring me to take part in the defense, but with the small amount of crew and lack of anti-air armaments, I judge you go by speed more than true defense. Or did your mechanic set up 'concealed armaments' in this ship's hull panels?" Vosur spoke as he looked back to Nut before opening the door and setting his gear inside the room other than the sword-and-sheath he wore on his belt.

The lion sighed and nodded. He turned to the bear and said in an exaggeratedly gentle tone "I'm right behind you, Mister," The bear was clearly confused, but he eventually saw that this would go nowhere if he didn't move. So he eyed the canine suspiciously before turning around. He stepped slowly towards the door. The lion turned around, too, smirked and then followed the bear, eyes still on the canine.

Once outside, Syd stood with his back to the door, ready to go back inside. He was clearly feeling impatient given the whole ordeal would have concluded had the lion not stuck his nose where it hadn't belonged. The bear had been annoying on his own, he didn't need any help. The colorful canine would have crossed his arms huffily, but instead, he settled on keeping his gun fixed on the bear's armed hand, half tempted to shoot the gun out of his hand and conclude this little meeting on his own terms. As a pirate and dancer, his trust was thin. He'd been drawn into games before.

“I'm gonna give you one chance to explain yerself before I finish this up on my own, go back inside, and settle for an ale,” Syd announced flatly, moreso to the lion than the bear. Aside from his gun being steadily pointed at him, he paid hardly any mind to the bear, engaging with the lion instead. After all, the feline had been the one to cause problems. “You stuck yer nose where it didn't belong and there was really no reason for that. Why give that tar stain a gun an' tell him to duel me if you're not interested in killin' me?” His gun waved briefly at the lion as he spoke before it wavered back to the bear again. “I don't like games, so you best come clean.”

Syd was taken by surprise when the lion shot. He hadn't expected it, and it was obvious from the way his green eyes grew wide. He covered his mouth with his free hand immediately, looking down at the dead body before him. He'd intended to teach the bear a lesson, but killing him had never crossed the canine's mind. When it came to all the threatening he'd been doing, admittedly, Syd was all bark and no bite – his display only meant to threaten and scare. The most he would have done is shot the gun from the bear's hand and sent him back inside to be shamed. He only killed when it was a matter of life and death.

He lowered his gun, looking back to the lion with disbelief. “Ye didn't 'ave to kill 'im!” he protested. Not that it mattered – it was a common occurrence in the city. It still didn't stop him from being appalled by it. “I'd 'ave handled it all on my own, mate. I didn't need yer help.” Now he was huffy and did cross his arms, side eying the lion. “This is a right mess,” he sighed, nudging the bear with foot and reholstering his weapon. He rubbed his face, a bit distraught, “He may have been rotten but that didn't warrant his death,” he muttered. “You do this sorta thing often, do you?” Syd placed his hands on his hips expectantly. “Because I ain't cleanin' this up.”

For the first time within memory, Arias was genuinely startled when the fox moved with such speed that even his eyes just barely caught it. If this man had not been ominous enough on his own standing, the precision with which he moved and the fact he could cut through marble with such ease would have certainly proven it. Turning his attention to the unusually clean slice, he rolled his shoulders and chuckled quietly. "I appreciate the effort and trust the Fanged King is putting into this expedition." He looked back to the fox as a genuine grin crossed his features. "Regardless of your or his intent."

Reaching back down to his thigh and retrieving the scroll from inside the plate, he carefully unrolled the first page. With an eyebrow cocked, Arias quickly read through the information that had been written down, sometimes murmuring under breath as he paused on a few paragraphs. "...limited to the eyes of the Fanged King... for the good of the Highlands... bestowed upon you after great duress in recovering the required documents..." He bit the inside of his cheek. What he was reading and the fact that the king fully intended to pay him for his efforts if he succeeded in this endeavor was incredible. In the many years he had been researching and seeking the Vaults of the Ancients, most had proclaimed him either a madman or a faulty piece of technological shite. Hell, not a single person had put any stock into his theories and the possibilities he had come up with.

Barely refraining from keeping the excitement out of his voice, he rolled up what he had just finished reading and unraveled the portion that spoke of several pieces of the extensive puzzle that had been put together by mages before him. His eyes danced across the page and he pressed a hand to his mouth. Everything he concluded through his years of seeking was yet another vital segment added to the mystery. He was so incredibly close to having the answers he sought, yet so deliciously far. If only he had known!

"Spirits." Rolling the parchment back up and securing the document once more, he suddenly moved away from the table and swiftly walked out of the library. What he had requested from the librarian lay completely forgotten on the table for the next passerby to entertain themselves with. "I will need a few to aid me in this expedition, preferably fellow mages with an open mind."

About to say more, he took note of an extremely unusual figure who stood off to the side. Whether they had been listening in to the conversation he carried with the sable fox or were merely a curious passerby, they were certainly a rarity. Relatively diminutive horns combined with unusually sharp canines immediately told him that this man did not come from a simple lineage. What was a being such as this doing out here in Circle City? The mages here were not the friendliest sort, especially to those they deemed 'different'. Arias was lucky to even get through the gates to begin with. "...Would that be against the kings clauses?" He suddenly finished, simultaneously attempting to ignore the being who had distracted him.

Marlock had in fact been listening and had actually been watching the two carefully. Before Arias had even started his conversation with the fox, Marlock had been skimming through several books all about various legends. The legends he was mostly interested in were objects and places of immense power. He when one such thing came up, he read it carefully and focused on every detail. Most other mages in circle city have written Marlock as a mad man, and they weren't that far off from the truth.

Marlock had suffered a severely traumatic experience a while back and while he won't share all the details, it clearly has mentally disturbed him. There are many rumors surrounding Marlock that he is a drug addict, that he makes deals with evil outsiders, and that he was the only person found alive in the destroyed town of Adriano. Marlock will not confirm or deny any of these rumors and instead offers people who ask such questions a sandwich. He is also very addicted to sandwiches and loves a varieties of things between two pieces of bread.

Once you Arias had started talking with the fox Marlock had taken interest. This vault thingy may have been the thing he was searching for all this time. When Arias said he needed another mage to come help with his project Marlock got up from his seat and came over.
"So i couldn't help but over hear you need another mage to help with research. I would be glad to offer my services as I am not just a mage but also an accomplished swordsman." Marlock said getting rather close to arias with a big grin on his face.

The armored binturong had nearly rounded the corner at the end of the small, bustling street by the time the fox caught up with him. It took her calling out a few times before he seemed to realize that anyone was speaking to him, his head turning around to get a look at the speaker, eyebrows set in a curious expression. When she came trotting up to him he just smirked, noticing just how attractive the fox was, but made no comment. "What do you need, Miss?" he questioned, his mannerisms and way of speaking far out of place in the lawless city. He looked down at the bag of coins in his paw and motioned for her to follow along, continuing on his way, but at a slower pace. It wasn't often that people called to him out of a crowd, but this certainly was not the first time, either. Turns out beating up thugs and thieves attracted attention. Who knew.

The sound of a gunshot rang out, not an unusual sound in these parts but this one was close enough that several people instinctively ducked and began looking around. Anthony just frowned to himself, though he didn't slow or later his course. In fact, the gunshot had come from up ahead. "One second." he said to the vixen as they walked through several people hurriedly moving in the opposite direction. They were not in a full panic, but some had paws over their mouths or were looking at the ground. None of them so much as glanced at the formed guardsman.

The crowd parted and both the binturong and the fox were left standing several dozen paces away from the scene in front of the tavern. The male just sighed quietly to himself and walked up to the two, the lion shamelessly rummaging the pockets of a bear who, based on the wound in his chest, was quite dead. The fox all but forgotten already, the 5'6" binturong looked from the feline over to the canine standing nearby.

"What'd he do?" he asked casually, as if it was nothing new, and truly, in DPC, this was nothing new.

"Thats the bear of the sky waves..howd they manage him.." skyla wondered aloud as she sized up the 2. Skyla was a crow sniper.  Trained by tge fanged kings royal air brigade to defend airships from the crows nest of ships with her rail gun sniper. She could size up danger they seemed dangerious but not evil... I wonder.. She thought to herself..if this expedition could use a ship..

The sable shrugged. "I see no reason why he would be apposed. As his right claw i can make such decisions. Just choise wisely." he said ominously. As another mage entered the picture. He reacted in no way. He simply drew closer to his now charges side. He had no opinon or agenda and did nothing to show approval or disapproval at the creatures actions or demeanor. He was trained not to do anything to influence a decsion. Many kings would become friends with body guards and thier opinions could influence a decsion. The Fanged King didnt believe that that should be the case. All soilders close to the Fanged King were taught that they were worthless in any way and were to find thier worth in protecting thier king. That was all. They lived through the greatness of thier king. Making thier loyalty almost unbreakable.

The canine watched the other, a bit disgusted, but not for long. The city was lawless and no amount of being upset was going to bring the asshole back to life, even if he hadn't deserved death. “No offense, mate, but seein' how you were gonna pin that on me, I don't think so,” he huffed, crossing his arms with a skeptical eye. “An' who knows if my coin will outweigh my worth to you.” He placed his hand on the tavern door once more, though just as he was about to return inside, two others joined their little gathering, investigating, evidently.

“Nothin' worth shootin' him over, that's for damn sure.” He griped, answering the binturong and pointing at the bear before the lion could get a word in edgewise. “He was drunk and got a little handsy,” then pointed back to the shooter, “I assume he was broke and got a little shooty. Either way, I ain't got a part in this other than tryin' to get the damned bear to settle down and stop harassin' the waitstaff here. The girls weren't appreciatin' it and neither was I.”

Bowing his head as he acquiesced to the foxes comment, he suddenly found the figure he had taken note of earlier standing precariously close. Immediately his muscles grew tense and the ribbons dangling from his head swayed as the tethers twitched. One of his hands had even closed into a fist, his first instinct to deck the man and make sure he was firmly out. Instead he tried to force himself to relax while maintaining a carefully neutral expression. "Hello to you, too." His gaze slid to the Fanged King's right hand, noting that they virtually disappeared when they fell into step with him. Curious. "What research projects have you worked on prior to this? Or will this be your first outing?"

Pinching the bridge of his nose and releasing a shallow breath, he waved for the hybrid to walk with him to the airship docks. If they wound up working together on this venture, they were going to need to visit the next two major cities: Mountain Gate and Dock Port. As much as he desired to gather everyone and everything he needed from Circle City simply due to the fact they were magically inclined and tended to attract such entities, there were some supplies they simply could not purchase within these walls. "It is a shame you cannot fly," he whispered quietly under breath. As much as he enjoyed the thought of riding an airship to their next two destinations, he was not a fan of the possibility of their mode of transportation being attacked. Or having to try and save the crew as it crashed and burned, all of which would never prove to be an issue making the journey through the skies on his own.

Wetting his lips, he shook those thoughts from his head and listened as his query was responded to. As much as working alone was yet another preferred route, given the general public's... tendencies, he hoped this fellow would instead fit the qualifications he required. It would make life far easier and perhaps even give him someone with whom to swap theories, bringing them that much closer to the Vault of the Ancients.

Guess that's what I get for growing up in the location that has the most tasteless food." he added with a shrug as he glanced to the wolfess before he started cooking up some steak with some chopped lemongrass since those would be most likely to go bad first if the trip delayed. "Hm... any recommendations for some grains in the meal?" he asked, not turning his head but one of his ears pivoting to anticipate a response.

"F-foods food..if its well cooked and tastes alright its better than the slop Bolt makes." she said stuttering nerviously at first but she was quickly coming back to normal. Nut giggled. "Were dragons sheila..we dont really taste what we eat so we go for a pleasing texture rather than flavor." sheilas voice change to a very gentle and smooth tone when adressed Nut. "Ah know. Its nay your fault you beatiful little fire blossom. Its that rouge of a brother you got." she grinned kindly as Nut nodded with a laugh. "He is a rouge isnt he.." "and a oaf, a buffoon, a boob, a chump, chunky, rotund-" "and not deaf!" said Bolt with mock sterness as he strode into the room. "For shame. The crew insultin thier caltain. For shhhaammee."

"As with a lot of people, probably has a good sense of smell if you decided to pay the galley a visit from the cooking." Vosur quipped to Bolt. "I know we're probably under-way already and may be running on autopilot, but why pay a visit to the galley so soon? My cooking can't be that good, can it or did I manage to burn that much time with preparation for cooking?" he asked as he rummaged a bit for some dry flour to fry in a little oil and diced peppers to make some spiced hush-puppies.

Every now and then, his sword-and-sheath set and then his hip-mounted tool-kit would tap against the stove with an almost musical metal-to-metal set of taps much like that of a set of wind-chimes as he was cooking, his movements intentionally playing a song and rhythm as if to tell him what he should do next with the cooking.

The binturong's round head turned from one, then to the other as they spoke, his face betraying his curiosity. He had seen this very man here not an hour prior doing exactly as they had described, but he still looked surprised when they recounted the story. Less that the bear was shot dead, but rather that anyone had bothered to shoot him. Harassing waitresses was one of the lesser offenses to morality that went on around here. he just gave a nod as the lion began to move back towards the door, clearly not intent on stopping him. It may have been a murder, but heir story fit the bill and honestly, Anthony did not feel it was an unmerited attack.

"Fair enough." He replied, turning back to the fox behind him as the two stepped into the tavern. "Sorry about that, Miss. Now, what was it that you needed?" He inquired, only briefly glancing the direction of the tavern door. This bag of coins belonged to somebody inside, but they could wait another few minutes. This vixen seemed to have something urgent to say, though currently she seemed to be mulling over the dead man in the street. She had mentioned something about a bear of the sky waves, but Cheg had no idea what that was supposed to entail. Didn't much matter now, in any case.

"Oh..uh right." she said after grabbing the bears sword and shoving it into her pack. While also drawing out a piece of paper. "Its...its from his majesty The Fanged King..he..he wanys to emply your services." she said sliding the parchment over to him. "Protection job. A mage the King thinks can find The Vault. "The Highland Reaper"..is accompanying them as well.." she shook seeming visibly shaken by the name as her back hair on her neck stood up slightly. The reapers name did that to furs. The sable fox was captain of The Royal Personal Guard of one of the most ruthless and powerful kings in the land. He didnt leave many survivors. But the ones he did leave had tales to tell of him. Each darker than the next.

Syd squinted a bit at the lion upon his reply, still feeling as if there was something not quite right about the fellow. Maybe, beyond the fact that he'd shot the bear dead in front of him, it was how aggressively the man kept changing his accent, or perhaps it was the fact that he expected Syd to simply forget about the whole transaction that had taken place. Either way, the canine let out a huff, still unhappy with the results. He'd have turned on his heel and gone elsewhere had he not already intended on staying at that exact tavern for the night.

“I'm comin', I'm comin',” He called out waving his hand dismissively at the feline, even if there was a tavern door between them to prevent him from being seen. The canine seemed to linger for a moment, as if trying to figure out how to proceed, though in all reality, he was really keeping tabs on what the vixen had said to the other. He couldn't help but be at least a little nosy before he interrupted, “Ya'll comin' in or what? I don't know a single soul that'd turn down a free drink, and if I'm even slightly honest, I think I want that lion payin' a lot of coin for shootin' someone.” Sure, it was a bit childish, but it would also possibly draw the other two inside so he could continue to eavesdrop.

"Eh." Bolt shrugged having no real come back. He was an awful cook and he knew it.  he then turned and

went to the cockpit and lifted off. It was so smooth anyone not paying attention might not even notice they had. He locked the wheel on a fixed course and joined them again as the food was ready. Nut and Shiela were chatting and laughing.

He eventually finished up cooking and brought everything to the table, sitting down with a sigh as he managed to cook up enough for 5 servings for himself, but he did not know how much would be enough for the others. "Not often that I've done anything like that. Usually it's just for me on my own." Vosur spoke with a chuckle before he added "Be careful on the hush-puppies. They will burn your insides if you're not careful." before he ate one of the small breaded pieces from his own plate.
