Title: Professional monster hunters for hire! [Fun and story rich!] [Alternate world]
Post by: Shadowka on April 22, 2018, 05:36:27 PM
[I'd prefer to run this on a Discord, Telegram or skype chat!]

Ah, good to see ya, I'm Shakad, son of Shaj, grandson of Shade Shadowka!

So, let me guess... You have an issue related to the supernatural or the downright strange, and you need some help solving that situation?
Or are you perhaps looking to get into the trade of silver slinging yourself?

Well, you are in the right place!... Or well, talking to the right fellow that is. Monster hunting has been a Shadowka family tradition ever since my great great great grandfather noticed he didn't catch the bone fever when he got bit by a ghoul!... Uhh, well he found out we are more resistant to supernatural afflictions, since that would and should have killed him otherwise.
Figuring this might be because of our blood, not the copious amounts of alcohol we Dragonians are known to consume I swear, He melted down his silver buttons and loaded them into his Colt 1860 navy, before clearing out the entire graveyard. Ever since he was obsessed with the supernatural and became quite the expert at solving situations that required some more ''creative'' thinking. It soon became his profession and he made quite a living, but he knew it could not last forever. He eventually passed his knowledge down to his son and so on and so on.
I've been doing this sorta stuff for half my life, and I'm pretty confident to say that I at least sorta know what I'm doing... No, I'm serious, I ''do'' know what I'm doing trust me.

I've dealt with Ghouls, Undead, Werewolves, Vampires, Ghosts, Hellhounds, Shapeshifters, Skinwalkers, Wendigo's, Witches, Curses and a lot more!... That and Assholes who Litter...Pricks

Now, don't be thinking that we silver slingers, which is slang for monster hunters, are just a bunch of gung-ho roughnecks with shiny shooters, no Sir/Mam!
Although we can never fully escape having to lay some lead and silver into the things that go bump in the night, most situations are solved with a silver tongue instead.
Most critters of the night are people like you and me, and are more than willing to come to terms if you can be persuasive enough. Violence is an option but not always a must!

Oh the stories I could tell you about when I met Minerva and we.... Oh, well I am getting off track, sorry about that.

Now, if you are in need of any help, or are looking to get into the trade, don't be afraid to swing by!

Shakad Shadowka

-The address is scribbled down underneath the notice in the form of a hand drawn map, pointing to the small town of Grey mountain-

[To help you get a feel for the type of story and the world I have prepared a description of the location you can find me in. The reasons and means by which you visit are for you to decide.
You are not obligated to follow this pre-written entrance, but I figured it would help you get a feel for the story! ]

___________________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________

You find yourself in front of an old wooden, three story ranch style home in the outskirts of a small village named ''Grey mountain''. The house was situated at the end of a long dirt road that lead a fair bit into the woods. The building had obviously been around for a while and the redwood walls had been bleached by the sun in certain spots, but was otherwise well maintained. The hot Southern sun and the humid Bayou air had taken their toll on most of the older buildings in this area, and it was rare to see such a place in a good state of repair.
Through the windows you could see the lights were on and smoke rose up through the chimney, curling around the tree branches as the subtle breeze carried it up towards the clouds.

Walking up to the door you'd pass another American relic. A Matte black old style Ford mustang with a set of reinforced doors and hood. It was caked in a layer of dust and mud and proudly sat on top of a set of large off road tires.

After climbing up the short stairway you'd be facing the front door. Above it sat a sign made out one of an oak board, reading the following:
'' Shadowka homestead and bar, monster hunting services. ''

There was no doorbell, instead you'd spot a knocker fabricated out of a horseshoe. This whole place gave off an old school vibe, yet had a strange welcoming look to it. If not for the car outside one might mistakenly believe they had traveled back in time to a place where electricity was not a common commodity.

After knocking you'd find the door to be unlocked and a voice called out from behind it

" Come'on in, I'll be with you in a second!''

The voice was that of a man in his mid forties, and had a slight Southern accent to it.
Following his instructions you enter into the home, Being greeted by the faint smell of charcoal and freshly cut firewood. The hallway was decorated with the skull of a deer that hung above the doorway and shelves of decorative bottles, glasses and books. Continuing through the hallway and following the source of the voice, you'd enter a much larger room that looked to be the bar or saloon type of area. It was partnered with a kitchen that split it in half with a bar top counter, and everything was styled in the same old school theme. The home was heated by a large stone fireplace that was situated in the middle of the living room and had a ring of furniture around it. The walls were covered in pelts, old deactivated guns used as wall hangers and other general clutter you'd expect.

Before you had any more time to look around you could hear someone open a can of something and place it down on the counter. Behind it Stood a tall but slender figure, clad in a red checkered shirt and dirt stained khaki cargo pants. The tall Dragonian swiped one of his bangs out of his face before he beckoned you to come closer with a smile.

'' Ah, don't be shy I don't bite... What can I do for ya stranger, need a drink?

He gestured to the old red fridge and stocked liquor cabinet behind him.
Shakad was a tall, grey skinned Dragonian with long blood red hair and a well kept beard. Dragonians were the more humanoid relatives of dragons, and were basically two legged wingless humanoid lizards who were in many ways anatomically identical to humans, except for their faces, ears, horns, a tail and a few other minor things. He had lighter red markings on his face that made it look like he was wearing warpaint around his eyes and on the bridge of his nose.

*knock* *knock*

The wolf pauses for awhile.

"I'm comin in." He said with a deep voice.

The wolf opens the door and proceeds inside the room.

He was Erik, hes was a tall grey wolf wearing a ushanka covering the area of his eyes. He has wide shoulders and wears a thick leather jacket and a dark blue jeans. He has two black marks on his lower face resembling a like a tusk.

Erik walks ahead to the counter.

*Shakad rose his hand, greeting the visitor with the same kind smile he was known to show to strangers*

'' Howdy there fellow, what can I do for you today?''

*He lifted his beer from the counter and took a sip*

'' Could I offer you something to drink?''

"I would like to have a am drink, but I always get too carried away so... no."

Looks around the room then proceeds to get near Shakad.

"So... you're a monster hunter too?" He said as he slightly raising his chin.

''As you wish, I can respect that!''

* The Dragonian stepped from behind the counter and nodded*

''That I am friend, you in the business too I take it?''

"Yes, I am."

Gets closer to the counter.

"Do you accept request? Yes?" He said as he grin.

The expression hes showing is not clear due to his hat covering his eyes.
He only appears to be grinning normally.

"Well, you see... I am a monster hunter like you, right? But my specialty is all about lethal poisons or toxins, stealth hunts and capturing monsters. But you see here, my friend. What im hunting is something different... that all my specialties are useless against IT. So... if I can't take it down... I'll just get someone else do it for me."

Sits down on a nearby chair.

"Is that clear enough for you?"

*He shrugged and scratched his neck*

'' Well, if you put it like that it does... I don't see why we can't figure something out''

*He extended his hand to him and regained his smile*

''So, if we are going to do this we might as well know each other by name. You know mine, may I know yours?

Erik just looks at you with a black look. You cant make out his expression due to his hat.

A wolf, black by design, knocks quietly and enters. He looks around, seeing a Dragonian and another Wolf already talking. He decides to wait, thinking it rude to interrupt.

Shakad frowned and scratched his chin as he listened carefuly to what Erik had to say

''Now that sounds quite odd indeed... But I'm glad to see you are not too worse for wear''

He gave Erik a gentle pat on the shoulder before he looked up from his conversation when he heard the door open and shut, never losing his smile

''My my, it seems i'm going to be getting busy today!

He beckoned the stranger to enter and got up to greet him''

Howdy there stranger, can I offer you something to drink?.... Beer, a coke perhaps?

He walked over to the bar area and opened the fridge to grab another can of beer. Nudging the door closed with his foot he placed the can on the counter for his new guest*

[Pyrus, a white wolf, walks up the steps to the porch, dawned in his leather armor, corked glass vials filled with liquids of different color rest in easy to access places on the outside of his armor. He peers threw a black lose fitted hood, and a gas mask, the lenses seem to glow a sickly green. It is connected to a tank on his back, painted black, with pouches containing certain items. A mace dangling from his left hip, a hunting knife on his right.]

[He bangs on the door three times then opens the door, letting himself in, his mask making auditable noise, every so often, a small bit of smoke escapes the exhaust port]

"I hear there is hunts going on.. I'm here to hel-"

[His eyes catch Erik]

"Ahhh tovarishch, how do you do?"

[Pyrus glances tward the supposed owner]
"Where are my manners? I am Pyrus. Seasoned alchemists and master at alchemical warfare. At your service"

Before Shakad even had the time to receive an answer from the guest he just welcomed, he was surprised by another visit. Gauging by his reaction to seeing Erik he figured the two knew each other.

'' Well would you look at that, seems like I'm getting popular''

He chuckled and shook his head, walking over to meet the impressively clad and obviously well prepared white wolf

'' Nice to meet you friend, I'm Shakad Shadowka. T'is good to meet some new colleges, we can always use more skilled individuals in this line of work!''

He looked him over and blinked, scratching his neck in what seemed to be one of his more common quirks.

'' If I knew you ya'll be showing up I would'a put on something more suiting myself. But ah, Anything I can get ya friend? Beer, soda or something else? If ya'll staying I'll prep us something to eat.''

"Ahh. Pyrus... long time no see!"

Erik stood up and walks up to Pyrus and grabs him by the shoulders.

Many Supernatural beings have overrun the village next to mine and are on their way to mine. I have sealed the village off, but I'm afraid it won't hold with out me there..."

Shakad poured the man some scotch with ice in a home made shot glass before placing it on the counter. He turned to Wilco and listened to what he had to say, letting the other two talk for a bit

'' I'm sorry to hear that fellow... I'm sure we'll be able to do something, but I need you to describe what sort of creatures are terrorizing the place... Or maybe just give us a description of what they look like, so we can better plan and prepare?''

Overhearing the conversation between the other two patrons he looked up

'' If it is ingredients you need, I am sure my friend Nishka can help you out. She's our local shaman''

"If you even knew what I had friend. You should come to the shop i run. I have everything from rare crystals, to napalm, to plants that haven't been seen in the wild for 300 years. And even some rare bones in excess. But as a show of good faith."

"For you! Seven silver nitrate and garlic powder, blessed rounds. And the mag once empty is silver aligned and folds into a blade. For you... My new friend"

He took the magazine and nodded, taking out one of the rounds and looking them over.

'' Now that sure is interesting. Thank you, I am sure I can make good use of this somehow. I have an old 1911 here somewhere but I much prefer this puppy.''

He placed the magazine on the counter and reached down into one of the drawers to pull out a large revolver, placing it next to the magazine. The large silver .44 long colt chambered Colt 1860 army conversion looked to be an original, and had a color case hardened frame, long barrel and an engraved red wood grip.

'' I have a pair of Browning hi-powers as a backup, but this was good enough for my great great grandfather, so it is good enough for me.''

The dragonian frowned and moved his hair out of his face as he pondered over what Wilco had just said.

'' That is quite a mix of creatures... And they are all coming from a single place, working together?''

This was quite the oddity, as most supernatural monsters did not play nice with each other. He took his revolver and placed it back in the drawer, tapping his fingernails on the counter top.

''And sure, but try and keep it from staining the carpet... Don't want to upset the wife''

He said with a chuckle, obviously messing about.

He chuckled and shook his head.

'' Seems like we hunters prefer going old school huh?''

He leaned on the countertop and sat down on the stool behind it.

'' How about this fellas... Out of the two cases we have before us his seems to be the most urgent.''

He gestured to Wilco and placed another can of beer in front of him, trying to cheer him up a bit.

'' I suspect that we might be dealing with a sorcerer or black magic user who has decided to terrorize the place by creating random monsters to scare out the inhabitants. I could be wrong on this, and it could indeed be a very odd collaboration of a bunch of usually hostile and mindless monsters, but I highly doubt it.''

He took a few seconds to think over his plan.

'' Now, my expertise lies in dispatching of feral monsters and persuading more self aware critters to come to peaceful terms. I have dealt with curses and magic wielder before, but I can't honestly claim I am wholly confident in my abilities to deal with such a fiend on my own. ''

Gesturing over to the impressively clad white wolf, he spoke again.

''Pyrus, I have the feeling you might have a lot more knowledge about the Arcane than any of us. And if the offer for your services is still on the table I would like to invite you to join us, as I fear we might be putting ourselves through a lot of trouble otherwise. I'd also like to know if your friend Erik will come along, he seems like a very capable fellow and you can never have to many hands on deck in our field''

He turned back to address them both.

What do you two think, sound good?
If you are in need of weapon maintenance or specialized ammunition I can supply you with that. I've worked on a lot of blades and shooters in my day, and I can get them back in shape in no time. I've also got spare rooms and decent meals to offer.... That and a cabinet full of strong drink, I am a Dragonian afterall.

He chuckled at the last part, Dragonians being very well known for their love of strong brew.

"I know how to kill almost anything.. show me the armory"

Shakad frowned and scratched his neck.

''Well, I have a few pieces in storage, but I doubt you can call it a well equiped armory. mostly just basic gear''

He guided whoever would follow through another door that he opened with a brass key, this one leading to the basement. It was devided in two areas which both served their own purpose. On the left was the general storage for food, drink and other personal supplies Shakad had. The right side was the armory, protected behind steel bars and a large cell door.

He unlocked the heavy metal door and pushed it open with a soft squeek. It wasn't a big armory, and had a few long guns mounted in metal racks on the walls and some heavy wooden and glass gun cabinets. Most of the ammunition was hand made and placed in little wooden cigar boxes. Most of the rifles were modified surpluss stock or commercially available weapons that had been converted to fire silver rounds or other such munitions. Old Swiss Veterli carbines, Remington rolling blocks, Mosin Nagant rifles, Double barrel and pumpaction shotguns both sawn off and in their long configurations, Lever action rifles, revolvers and early semi automatic pistols were most of what was available.

''This is it, all of them work and the ammunition is stored in the bottom of the cabinets. The large crates in the back have the specialty equipment we won't have to worry about right now. I can lend you a piece or so, but I do have to charge a fee for ammo or if you want to hang on to one, they do cost a fair bit to make.''

"There ya go friend, how is that? "

He turned to Wilco and smiled.

[Pyrus slowly finishes his scotch. Placing the glass upside down on the bar, he removes all but one round from the magazine. Placing the remaining 4 next to the over turned glass, standing them on the rounded end of the shell. He slings the rifle offer his shoulder and dawn's his mask, checking the seal. The auditable sound of the mask sealing, preasurising, and filling with that pail green vapor, as he puts his hood up and walks out of the home. He walks off of the property, disappearing into the foliage, headed towards the target.]

Shakad followed Wilco, his hand reached closer to his holstered six shooter as they grew near the location in question. To the other two the weathered hunter would give off a lone gunslinger vibe like the riders of old. His duster had been patched many times and had obviously accompanied the hunter on many long trails.

Wilco slows down as they reach the village. "We're here..." He says as they pass through the barrier, now fading. He chants a small verse, before slamming his paw into the barrier, it glowing brighter. "Just in time..."

As Pyrus watches the cave mouth, he sees a figure suddenly spring forth from within.

A tall red wolf, clad in a long black trench coat, bounds out of the cave in a mighty hurry. He carries an oversized greataxe which crackles with unnatural, fiery blue energy. His back has a massive, smoking wound that tears through his coat, and he looks rather beat up.

As he exits the cave he turns and swings his greataxe with as much strength as he can muster, slicing at a misshapen monster that was right on his heels and sending it squealing back into the cave. He then continues his mad dash, oblivious to Pyrus's presence in his hurry.

[Pyrus for a moment had his pistol aimed at the back of hunter' s skull then notices the tussle removing the sights from the intended target]

"My my, the night keeps getting more interesting..."

[Pyrus says muffled threw his mask, then picking a grenade from his best pulling the pin and tossing it into the mouth of the cave then stepping to the side to avoid the blast]

The red wolf running from the mouth of the cave is unexpectedly knocked prone when the force of the grenade's explosion ripples through the air. He quickly struggles back to his feet, looking around wildly for what caused the blast. He notices Pyrus crouched near the cave entrance.

"Hey! What are you doing here?" he calls out. "Listen, there's some powerful arcane forces in that cave. You shouldn't hang around here!"

"H-hey wait! Hold on!" the wolf says, staggering after Pyrus, back toward the cave. "I'm telling you, this place is a death trap! I barely got out alive," he says as he catches up to the strange, masked wolf.

He looks Pyrus over. "I can see you're a hunter, but even so you should be careful of this place. I tried taking that maniac on alone, and THIS is what I have to show for it," he says, jerking his thumb to indicate the gash torn into the back of his jacket. "You'll need some backup if you're going in."

'' I am very sorry to halt you from heading back into the meat grinder, but might I ask you a few questions before we all proceed? It may be wiser to stick together, especially since we don't know what we are dealing with here.''

The middle aged dragonian let go of his shoulder, extending his hand after sliding his revolver back into the holster on his hip.

''I'm Shakad by the way, nice to meet another hunter''
