Title: Weird thoughts
Post by: Bricket on April 14, 2017, 12:38:04 AM
On advice from some people I decided to start this thread here where I will post time to time random thoughts, poetry, shorttales, horrible jokes, etc... basically everything my mind seems to be able to come up with.

Let's begin shall we?
There you are, standing at the railroadcrossing
Signals going off, lights flickering, bells are ringing
You look at your watch, clock is ticking, time is running out
A fast walk across the track, an horn, an impact
There you were, standing at the railroadcrossing

Hmm......I hope you aren't really thinking what I am reading.

Oh no, it's just a bit of poetry I had in mind.
If you want to know why I made that bit: a few days ago a befriended traindriver hit someone who was crossing the railroads whilst the signals were working. So when heard that news I started thinking of this.

Okay.  Thanks for the clarification.  I was worried.

No need to be worried about me  :P

Here is some more weird stuff
If someone was raised in a room ,and told this room was his world. Would this person be interested or having the urge to "discover" more?

Oooooh! I love thought experiments like these! That's a super weird thing to consider, but I feel like someone like that wouldn't be interested in discovering more. Unless they had some reason to believe there was more than that room, they'd have no reason to believe that there was anything more.

BUT, if I see what you're doing correctly, you could be comparing this to our situation. Saying we may be sticking ourselves into this hypothetical "room" of what we can observe and wondering if there is more to it all. Thinking about it that way, than I guess maybe someone in that room might wonder if there was more to it, like who stuck them there and if there *was* something besides what he knows.

Super interesting though!

A great answer to say the least  :)

Why are so many young people interested in communism/socialism? Is it because they're used to the fact their parents give them stuff for free they expect the same from the state?

Why American Liberals call themselves liberals if they want to curb in liberties?

What would happen if people followed their own morality instead of the artificial "society-morality"?

So... uh... don't know where to post this, so I'm just gonna borrow this thread  :P

But I'd feel bad if I did that without replying at least partially to the last post, so I'll answer the third question. I don't necessarily know how synthetic "society-morality" is. While we all differ somewhat in how we feel about ethics and morals, I think society's morals are, for the most part, a shared system of morals most of us have. However, I assume you're actually talking about norms. Like not being able to have an emotional conversation in public, or submitting to conformity. I assume then that we would just have a really... interesting world. We'd see some weird stuff. While I tend to be less caring, some people see no problem with some quite terrible things, and I'd prefer people keep that to themselves if they don't want to change. If you do actually mean morals, then the world would be chaos. Our morals keep us from overwhelming murder and violence all for no reason.

But, as for my own weird thought... What makes us... us? Is it our memories? Is it our bodies? As weird as it is to think it, we wont have the same cells or even the same memories or ideas within weeks, never mind years. Or are we only us in this moment, never to be the "same person" ever again?

For the third question, I think that, to some extent, people do follow their own moralities. Some people will do things that dare deemed immoral by others.

I really think we need to either resurrect Anoni's thinking thread or start a furlosophy thread.
