I can help with a few of these!

!. I used fleece for my first bat suit for the wings, and flannel for this next one I'm working on (since I need to dye a design on the wings and fleece does -not- take dye nicely)
2. Depends, if its foam I'd use wire, resin springs. If foam, I did a mock up test and found this way seems to be the most sensitive option http://fursuit.tanidareal.com/savoy/en/03fmakeheada.htm (http://fursuit.tanidareal.com/savoy/en/03fmakeheada.htm)
3. It's up to you and what the design is going to be. My first bat, I made the wings part of the arm, and the hands separate and would grab onto the wire part of the wing to open it up all the way. This next one I'm working on, the commissioner wants two fingers out, the pointer and the thumb, and the other fingers hidden, which I'll probably just make a mitten like-thing for the other 3 fingers.

For my first bat, I used wire coat hangers that I coated wit rubber to cover the sharp edges. Some people use wire, maybe 12 gauge or thicker.

Here's my first bat http://www.furaffinity.net/full/20755780/ (http://www.furaffinity.net/full/20755780/)

And the concept art of the one I'm currently working on http://www.furaffinity.net/view/21488860/ (http://www.furaffinity.net/view/21488860/)

Thanks so much Nori!
Are the fleece pieces of the bat membrane part (photoshoot picture) double sided? Or did you just cut it out?
Title: Re: Euharmonics' Fusuits
Post by: Nori on December 02, 2016, 11:12:22 AM
It's just one layer cut out to the shape, since this fleece was pretty thick. The 'fingers' have foam in them to keep the fleece a bit straighter. :)

I went to the fabric store today and I found 2 types of fabric; Polyester and cotton. Which do you guys think is better to use as the membrane part of the suit?

Up to you and what you think feels good. I think polyester (I've mostly worked with fleece so my info might be a bit off) frays much less than cotton, but you can't modify it much with dyes and bleach. Cotton doesn't hold sweat smell as much, since its natural fibers. I'd go with whatever one you like the best, if you aren't going to be modifying colors or anything, and if you like both, go with the cheapest if they're both the same quality :)

I guess I will be going with polyester then haha
Main concern however is that it will shrink..?

That's why you wash the fabric the same way you would wash what you're making it into :) It's a good idea for any fabric (except fur) before you cut it and sew it just to be safe :) Polyester doesn't usually shrink since its plastic, but just wash it before hand :) And I meant that cotton keeps the sweat smell contained a bit more, I didn't work it right. I personally like fleece more for wings, it just looks a bit better personally.

Oh, I see haha. Thats pretty smart :0
Imo fleece looks too dusty for my liking.

It -looks- like it could be some kind of thin spandex, maybe 2-way stretch with the stretch going vertical, since when the suit opens its wings all the way the folds are still there, and if the stretch was horizontal I'd imagine it would be a bit flatter. Also since you can see the light from behind it. I don't know much other fabric that would look like that, but that's my best guess.

I am requesting this topic not to be locked unless requested. I am still in the planning stages of this fursuit which might result in inactivity of this post. However it is really up to the mods.

If it becomes locked due to inactivity, feel free to request it being unlocked again. We don't manually lock all threads. Threads that haven't been replied to in a while automatically get locked.

1) Anyways, polyester should be fine, as long as you do hand-wash, if I recall correctly. It can shrink in the wash if you're not careful, but that's with a lot of fabric types :)
Other thin and light-weight fabric you could consider:
spandex, nylon (although I believe this isn't really good when being around fire and stuff >-> as it can melt), cotton, velvet, chiffron (might be a very good alternative), and well... silk or silk-like stuff.
2) Springs are better to use, as rubber deteriorates pretty fast over time, depending on the type of rubber, thickness, etc.
3) It depends what you prefer. I don't think I can stand it if my fingers are that far apart and my hands 'lift' a large wing, increasing 'pressure' on my hands and fingers. In the end it's still heavier than no wing :P But that's preference.
Title: Re: Euharmonics' Fusuits
Post by: guest22811 on December 22, 2016, 09:22:04 AM
Thanks Nori and Ventus! I'm using spandex, it's stretchy :D

I feel so bad for not updating this topic lmao;
The head is already made  XP  and right now, the wing is nearly done *cries that I have literally not even uploaded my reference sheet yet*

However, I have a question. I want both of my wings to be removable if I need to use my hands in an emergency. I've currently made them separate, however there is this membrane part that connects to the side of the suit. What do you think is the best way to do this?
I can either
1. Just sew it on anyways and pull down my arm sleeves when necessary. This doesn't satisfy what I want though since thats detaching, not removing.
2. Use magnets, which imo is not strong enough
3. Use a hook type of thing but that would be too visible and annoying

Here is a badly drawn MS Paint diagram of what I'm talking about.
Black: Body
Red: The removable section
Blue: the connection point

Please give me as much suggestions as possible!!! :0
If I end up not thinking of anything I'll just sew it on (#1)

I second velcro! For my bat I made slits in the wrist, made a little flap to the cut would be hidden so I could pull my hands out and still keep the wings on.

What about a zipper? I feel like velcro isn't going to be strong enough

@Ventus I'm using spandex  :P  It's perfect
Title: Re: Euharmonics' Fusuits
Post by: Ventus Fall on December 23, 2016, 11:26:20 AM
I've come across good and bad velcro, no matter the size of it. It really depends.
Zipper is also a good valid option, but might be harder to handle when in a fursuit, especially from those sides you want :)
Title: Re: Euharmonics' Fusuits
Post by: Nori on December 24, 2016, 12:22:16 AM
I use very good industrial veclro from a specialty store, I have trouble prying it apart the first few uses XD
I second what Ventus said, zippers are good, but if you're still wearing your suit it will be very difficult with the fur and fabric getting caught in it.

I went with velcro!

This probably sounds ridiculous, but I literally just finished the suit 3 days ago  XP

Like,
the entire suit.

It's weird how I never even bothered to update this forum post, probably because I couldn't be bothered to take photos.

I went outside in suit with my mom yesterday :3
The place where I suited was at the lobby area of my mom's apartment. I was absolutely terrified at first; I mean, me, a 14 year old, was literally in a gigantic bat costume running around. However, there were a few children around, and things soon turned more fun than scary

Here are some photos!

aaa tyy xd

For the fingers:
I don't know what it's actually called, we just had it lying around in the shed. It's some sort of plasticky material that bends when pressure is applied. Kinda like a fishing rod. They're actually quite light.
I used a wire coat hanger for my pinky fingers though because I didn't have enough length of the rod left and had no idea where to buy it ://

Nice! I LOVE the webbing. I'd personally have lengthened the middle and index fingers on the wings, even if it's tough. Just out of personal preference to bat wings having an appropriate spread. And the head is cute. Reminds me a LOT LOT of Dutch Angel Dragons. Like... a crazy lot. XD

I have two fursuits that I completed quite a while ago XD
Being me, I never bothered to make a post or even mentioned them. Since I've already finished them both, I felt like I would ask for critique : 3

Here is some photos of the first suit that I made back in January. His name is 'Tragedy', or 'Vincent', informally. It's got a slight stilt on the hooves, 3D eyes, and a moving jaw.. I need to fix the tail, I do realise that goats do not have tails like that. This suit has a moving jaw that you can see here:

I wear it as a partial sometimes.

I don't have as many pictures of this fursuit compared to the other one.

I am more proud of my second fursuit. This one is skintight, similar to the Sofia / Belo4ka fursuit. She's unofficially named 'Vivacity', and I have no ideas for names. I guess I'll just wait till I find something I like lmao.
Here are some majestic pictures:

I am not very experienced with fursuits but i have to admit what you've done there look really good ^_^

I have to say that you are very very talented and that you should continue doing what you already do ^^
As for the individual suits I can't decide which one I like the most! Both of them look really great and the moving jaw part really made impressed me ^__^

You are so lucky you can make fursuits x3 I wish I could make mine..
Anyways keep up the great work  :3

I am really impressed with your suits. You have a nice style going on. Arguably probably my (or one of my) most favourite toony-styles :P

While owning two fursuits myself, I don't think I have anything to critique on. I wouldn't know what! XD
I like how you mention they're skin-tight as well. That's something I'm looking for if I would ever get another fursuit.

Anyways, nice job once again :)

All the info below is outdated haha.
The suit has been repurposed for a client instead, meaning this is the 7th suit I have made.

================

Just started today, nothing interesting to see at the moment, except for a bucket-head base. I will try and post updates.

The specs I am planning to implement are:
- Skintight suit, made out of plush/mink fur. Similar to Belo4ka.
- Static jaw with follow-me eyes.
- Extremely long set of ears.
- Attached tails (I really despise non attached ones).
- Fullsuit.

However, I do have a question to dump.
Where the *hell* would I put a zipper? I'm aiming for a skintight suit, and adding a zip in the front or back would be obviously visible. I can't 'hide the zip with the fur' because I'm not using fur, I'm using mink, and it's very very lowpile.
I can literally 'cut' (seperate) the entire suit in half along the waist, I will be wearing clothes over it. If anyone has a better suggestion, gimme xD
Title: Re: Euharmonics' Fusuits
Post by: Ventus Fall on June 04, 2017, 10:44:53 AM
If you're wearing clothes over it, you could put the zipper at the pack.
Let the head-neck flap cover it a bit at the top-most part, wear clothes and it should be as good as invisible, no? :)
You can always use a scarf or something of the sorts to also cover the neck part up if you don't want to have that.

My ITO suit is all faux seal fur, so really short fur as well. The zipper is at the back. Not only is the zipper the same colour as the fur, it's also rather tiny. So even by itself it is really rather unnoticeable.
But even then it is sovered by ITO's 'mane', a green longer-haired fur flap covering the back.

This is the best picture I can find showing the back of ITO with the green mane on the back covering it all up: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/14628836/ (http://www.furaffinity.net/view/14628836/)
The mane consists of the head part and the torso/back/shoulder part.

I agree with ventus on the zipper bit, I'd probably use a scarf personally
I can't wait to see photos of it, your suits and art are always nice to see ^^
Title: Re: Euharmonics' Fusuits
Post by: guest22811 on June 04, 2017, 01:03:12 PM
AH, the neck flap thing is what I did for my previous attempt at a skintight suit, but it made the neck look out of proportion :0 The sona I am currently trying to reproduce in fursuit form has a very visible neck, and a generally human figure.

A scarf could be a good alternative ^^ Definitely never thought of that! Thanks for your contribution :3

And ey, Lumix, thanks!  :P

Making a hidden zipper won't work? I've sewn hidden zippers for bags and whatnot, and it works pretty well <3
https://www.craftsy.com/blog/2014/02/how-to-sew-an-invisible-zipper/ (https://www.craftsy.com/blog/2014/02/how-to-sew-an-invisible-zipper/)
Title: Re: Euharmonics' Fusuits
Post by: Ventus Fall on June 04, 2017, 05:19:43 PM
Would a hidden zipper work? I'm honestly asking as for my ITO suit it is a semi-hidden zipper and it doesn't work too well.
1) For some reason even the short fur seems to go in between the zipper.
2) The zipper handle is very tiny and people find it extremely hard to pull down. Might be because things seem to 'pull'. If that even makes sense. Not just the fur, just the overall stuff. (Words D: )

I mean, you can always try, there is no harm in trying x3

Ehh, the price usually depends on the complexity on the sona tbh. However, some colors just aren't available at all, making it impossible. I have most of the spectrum, though xD

Am I cheaping out? I don't feel like my suits should be worth that much mainly because they're not as polished on the inside compared to the outside.

and shhhhh
I don't consider myself a 'proper' furry either, I just think it's cool to have animal costumes  o.O

ALRIGHT
So what happened was I literally got a client right after I made the previous post, so I decided to just use this base since it was suitable. Since it was for a dog though, I had to increase the muzzle length.
WhaT DOES EVERYONE THINK??? :DD

Also, I ordered the purple for from fabric.com, and HOLY **censor** SHIT, THE FUR QUALITY IS SO DAMN GOOD AND ITS CHEAP!! . I will *definitely* ALWAYS order from them from now on! Oh my god, I have been living under a rock for the past few months aaaagh

I am planning to make a fursuit out of an interesting character that I own. I have been holding this up for ages, even though I have more than enough money. So this is the character:
http://euharmonics.deviantart.com/art/Euharmonics-Heartache-Reference-Sheet-685588357 (http://euharmonics.deviantart.com/art/Euharmonics-Heartache-Reference-Sheet-685588357)
He's some sort of canine monster thing.
The reference is slightly outdated. I want his tail, ear fur, arm fur and back-of-leg fur to be longer. I'm talking at least 1ft long, I think it would be real cool if he had fur parts that are just majestic and long as heck, especially when dancing.
Also, notice his small claw hands. I honestly don't know why I did that, it just looked awesome. I've already got that done, and I am so excited to show everybody sometime :3
Only problem is, how do I achieve this?
I have ordered fur samples and all of them have piles that are not long enough; It would not be as noticable and just make his arms look plain fat.
NFT fur? No, that would be wallet destruction. Besides, it's still not long enough for my liking xd

So how would I achieve this?
With a wig.
That's right.
Only problem?
I have no experience with wigs.
I bought a 80 cm wig a while ago for really cheap on Ebay and very good quality
Would this be a good idea or not?
I'm thinking of buying like, 10 wigs, Then planning and cutting out the sections, and applying them to the area I need.
This sounds like the best idea to me, unless someone else has other ideas.
Only thing I am worried about is how long it would last. Does it do well to dragging around? Do the fibres shed a lot?

I'd suggest wig wefts instead, or extensions. They're already threaded and held together, you just need to apply them. I shied away from normal wigs when I was experimenting with it myself, the backing goes two directions, and even if you were careful, the nature of wigs is to act like hair, so they connect at one or two parts.
Also if you want NFT fur, this site sells the leftovers they don't use https://hairymannscloset.com/

Hmm, where do you think I would be able to get them?

Most hair care places have them, if you have a general store that sells hair products you could get it that way too. Online of course too, I've seen some cheap ones on Amazon.

Some digitigrade progress!!
This is my first time doing a digi suit, and this foam is really heavy by itself already.
Does anyone know if it would be better to just fur the foam or steal it's pattern then make pillows?
I am slightly reluctant to make pillows since I ain't good at that stuff.(http://i.imgur.com/IFt8VDd.jpg)
Here it is compared to the fursona.

Either I am shorter than I thought, or the perspective that I took the photo at made me look short.

A suit I made a while ago for a client.
I do a very great job of updating my works, I know.
