Title: The Hooded Cloak
Post by: Trixsie Vixen on August 13, 2016, 03:35:33 PM

In a forgotten town, past the edge of civilization, is a back alley.  And down that back alley is an unlit stairwell leading down to an unmarked door.  Behind the door lies the remains of a once busy tavern: The Slaughtered Lamb.

Since the end of the slave trade the money dried up and then so did the alcohol.  All that remains is a permanently closed kitchen and dozens of poorly lit booths, stalls and corners.

Those denizens who speak of it simply call it The Cloak.  Some meet there to do shady business, some because they don't want to be found and some just want to forget the horror of their past.

The rules are few:

1 No brawling!
2 Mind your own business!
3 Don't mess with the barmaid!

"You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy."

(OOC: The setting is purposefully vague to allow for characters from any era to co-exist.  All welcome regardless of species, setting and interests)

Surveying the snoring buffalo sprawled across a table, Trix the barmaid waited for the gamblers nearby to get in an argument before collecting her tip from the slumbering patron's pockets.  Surveying the cobweb strewn monument to dark and ugly carpentry which was The Cloak, she had a feeling today would see a new face darken her doorstep.

"I hope they have money"

Ben walked down a dark ally to a place somebody recommended to him. Honestly he didn't know what to think of the situation, walking down a dark narrow ally because somebody told him it'd be worth his while. In fact now that he said it in his head the whole idea seemed ridiculous. But Ben was ready for anything, he had been in many fights before; quite evident from the stitched cuts in his cloak and the scars on his face.

"Here it is" Ben grabbed the handle to the door and pulled it with extreme force expecting somebody on the other side waiting for him. With the door now wide open Ben stood sword in hand and hood covering most of  his facial features  with a shadow.

He scanned the room only to see that it was an old tavern. So Ben returned the sword to its spot on his side.

Trixsie looked up as the door opened.  Her desire for business at war with her distaste of company.

"Shut the door, you born in a barn?"

She grimaced with a hint of welcome and nodded to a vacant booth.

A fur in a hooded cloak bursts in, shivering and then shaking himself. He has red eyes under the cloak, but other then that it is hard to tell

He sticks his paws in his pockets.

A truly odd person walks into The Cloak who just radiates an aura of excitement. She was a red Fox with short hair and wearing a red sun dress. The tips of her fingers, feet and tail were truly strange as they seemed to swirl with a multitude of different colors...and oddly looked like they were made of paint. She skips over to an empty booth and sits down, pulling out a sketchbook and humming to herself.

"Hmmm, looks like there's some new furs in town"

Trixsie takes a cloudy glass of water to the red fox.  It's not obvious if the glass of the water is cloudy.

"Kitchen's closed but I could rustle up something if you want"

Turning to the red-eyed mystery fur
"There a seat by the fire your cold"

The red Fox opens her  sketchbook and writes using her finger, which actually was made of paint as it seemed.
"Do you have any paint or ink?" Is what she wrote and it appeared that she was mute.

"Ah, quiet type huh?  I think you'll fit in nicely"

The surly barmaid searches out the back and returns with a bottle of black squid ink.

"I was saving this for a mystery casserole, but you can have it for $10.  And that's at cost"

The Fox smiles and chugs the whole ink bottle, as she does her fur turns blue instead of red. When she finishes puts a $20 on the table.

Impressed but trying not to show it the vixen takes the money wordlessly.  She walks to the fire and pokes it into action, then goes back to the closed kitchen and puts on a pot of coffee.

While the barmaid is away, the Vixen looks around for something to do. This place seemed so dark and dreary, maybe she could do some entertaining for the guests. She got from her booth and went to the center of the room.

The hooded fur and watched this is interest, but rarely seemed impressed, and walked over to the bar itself with a very high air about himself. He brushed past the now blue fox, not bothering to take a second look at them.

The Vixens fur turned grey as she started to look nervous, but start anyway. She started dancing but at the same time it felt like she was getting ready to paint. She made brush like movements with her arms and when she did, actual red paint began to float in the air. The paint roared to life as it caught on fire and it became clear that her paint was magic. As she continued to dance she began to look more and more like a dancing flame, flickering this way and that with her brush like movements. Her feet also began to spread green paint across the floor which sprouted grass and flowers with each step. The whole scene was a work of art.

The hooded fur watches, but seems uninterested. He grabs a drink and seats him self at the bar, and leans back, watching before yawning.

The Vixen looks at the figure and puffs up her cheeks in anger. The plants and fire disappear and the Vixen goes back to her booth.

He watches her go back to her booth. He takes a sip of his drink and closes his eyes, sighing deeply.

The Vixen started looking sick as she sat in her booth losing a bit of color.

He watches, and sighs, putting a paw to his fore head and then sitting up straight. He gets up and slowly advances towards the sickly vixen, his body coming closer and  becoming imposing.

Ben had been sitting quietly in a chair off in the darkest corner of the room. Quite some interesting people around these parts. I lean back in the chair two of the legs lifting off the floor.

The vixen looked up and wasn't really intimidated by you. She just seemed mad, mostly cause you didn't like her art. However she can't hold your gaze as she felt awful and just pulls out her notebook. Using a pencil instead of her fingers she writes "What do you want?"

He takes a seat opposite her, and gives a very unnerving look, constantly looking at you without blinking. He pulls out a pencil of his own from his coat pocket, and writes down "I'm sorry"

She looks at you and smiles slightly. She writes more. "Its fine but I put a lot of effort into that dance...maybe a bit to much. Also I am not scared of you...there is only one person I show any fear towards."

He gives what seems to be a chuckle and starts writing. "I know. I'm not trying to scare you.
I just would rather not converse if I can avoid it "

He pats the paper, leaving the pen and getting up, and slowly walking back to the bar.

The Vixen blsuhes and quickly writes down something, holding it up and  grunting to get your attention. In big bold letters it said. "My name is Moka!"

He stops and tilts his, before turning around and reading the paper. He (presumably) closes his eyes and nods before turning around to head back to his bar seat.

Moka smiles and eats the lead right out of the pencil which actually makes her feel a bit better.

suddenly a light blue and white spinning portal opens up near the ceiling and a silver dragon with torn skin in the wings wearing whats looks like a tight black tank top and dark blue long and tight pants from unknown shiny fabric falls through yelling "bloody hell!" breaking a table. he quickly stands up aims his left hand to the portal above and it transform into blue bits from the elbow up turning into some sort of canon and he fires a a white laser in for 2 seconds then his hand changes back and as the portal starts to close he yells in "well no need to thank me! just saving your sorry research station! thank me later!" he looks around and goes to a chair in the corner.

Trixsie the barmaid returns with coffee and notices the silver dragon but pretends not to be surprised.

"Coffee's hot!" she announces to the room and leaves the pot on the main bench table.

"there might be bread later, don't hold your breath"
She returns to the bar to wipe glasses.

After the barmaid announced coffee Ben stood to go get himself a cup

"Thank you" is all Ben said as he poured his coffee quickly returning to his seat giving a yawn before taking a few gulps of the scalding liquid.

The entrance door pops a hesitant few inches, just enough for a snout to poke in and a curious eye to examine the dim area. The snout backs out a tad as if uncertain, but the door slowly swings open, revealing a bear. He is young, maybe looking even younger for his age, and his worn clothes, backpack, and fur are sprinkled with dirt. His head low in shyness, he steps inside and carefully shuts the door.

His name is Geoffrey.

The barmaid turns to Shoon and nods "I have nail-polish remover, but I'm almost as attached to it as I am to this place.  Arsonists meet Thursday nights".

Trixsie casts a glance at the young bear, she hated trouble and the shy looking lad had 'Trouble magnet" written all over him.

Sha-draw gets up off the Floor, still wearing his hooded cloak. He finally had managed to stand up, though he swayed towards the ground a bit.

He looked around at all the new comets and shrugged, grabbing another expensive toxin.

Trixsie headed to the kitchen but stopped, turning back to Shoon.

"shall I start a tab for you?"

Moka eventually got bored and left the hooded cloak, but as she left another new face entered. It was a white cat with red eyes and short bleach blonde hair. He was dressed like a priest but something seemed off about him, as he seemed to radiate with pride. He went to go take a seat and waited.

Trixsie glowered briefly and the snickering dragon.  She had learned to be nervous of the laughter of others.  But sparing a glance towards the newcomer, she went and put on the tea.  It was mint and chamomile.

"Oh, that was quick"

The barmaid pours tea for Shoon, "careful, it's good and hot" she cautioned, then put the pot by the communal coffee pot.

"Now, can I get anyone anything?" Trixsie asked in a tone that suggested the correct answer was "no".

The hooded figure removed his hood revealing a blach dragon muzzle, matted with blood and parted with scratches, and an eye patch over his left eye.

"Yeah... How about something to ease the pain." He said, throwing a bag of gold on the table in front of the barmaid, hoping she wouldn't object.

Eyes suddenly bright, Trixsie swept the bag of gold out of sight and her smile switched from sour to sweet like it had been a trick of the light.

"I might have something in the first aid cabinet, just a moment".  She trotted off, returning quickly with a vial of swirling green mist and a cough drop.

"This will fix the pain" holding out the vial of ghostly green "and this will help the taste of the medicine" she hands over the menthol candy.  "Don't operate any large vehicles for three hours".

The cat got up and got some tea, taking a sip not caring that it was scalding hot and sat down. The mysterious stranger could feel that despite the feeling of demonic power coming off the was strong, it felt controlled which was uncommon amongst demons. Everyone however could see a cold iron cross on display around his neck

Trixsie watched the strange cat silently.  The Cloak had seen conflict between demons and priests in the past, but never a demon priest.  She wondered if this was the first, but knew the value of privacy.

"As for you Mr...dragon, I would suggest relaxing as your best course of action. Ticking off the owner would be bad after all."
