Title: Shinobi's drawings!
Post by: Nobi on February 10, 2013, 08:04:37 AM: Hi there! Since I've actually been drawing lately, I figured it would be fun to post my sketches here! It's not amazing, and I'm still very much developing my drawing style/skills. Some of it will be on sketchbook paper, and some of it will bear the infamous blue lines of a regular old spiral notebook.

I would love to know what you all think, so please feel free to comment! ^_^

Here are a couple of drawings of two non-furry friends of mine, as I imagine them as furs!

This one here was a request from an IRL friend of mine. It's supposed to be a Tairen, from his favorite book series, Tairen Soul. Since I've never read it, I wasn't familiar with them. However, he gave me a description of how they look and what they have, and I pretty much just did my best. XD

This is just a random fox I sketched one day during one of my classes. Seems I've finally figured out a better looking way to draw necks! This was done before the Tairen, by the way.

If you're friends with Spotted_Serval, you may have seen it already. I gave her a lightsaber and a kinda Star Warsy getup because the first time I roleplayed with her, we had a lightsaber duel! :D

I finally got around to doing some scanning, so I have three new ones here, one of which you've already seen if you've noticed my new avatar. :) I'll post that one first, so you can have a better look at it:

Admittedly, I kinda screwed up while coloring my left pant leg; I started out by making the base color brown, but then I actually looked at my jungle fatigues and noticed that the base was much more green. XD Other than that, I'm quite happy with how this one turned out! Super excited to have it as my new avatar! :D

This is the first drawing I've made that has multiple furs in it! I do wish I'd had my sketchbook on me at the time, but it was once again one of those instances where I was suddenly inspired, and just couldn't let that get away from me. So out came the legal pad, and off I went! :3 It depicts myself and two of my good IRL friends, Sarah and Patrick, playing D&D. Tremble at my evil Dungeon Master paws as you hope for a 20! >:3

This is a much better drawing of Patrick, which I actually did before the D&D sketch. I think his pose and expression quite effectively convey his status as the biggest otaku I know. :P

And Byracka, forest scenes are still nice! They often have a nice, liberating feel to them, I find. :) But as for depicting more ordinary events, I've had so many that I've wanted to do like that! I started on one a while back of two friends and I just walking to the parking garage at our university, but I ended up scrapping it because I couldn't get the proportions right. :/ But I definitely plan on doing more drawings like that! ^_^

Nixon: "words?" You mean my signature and the date? And "prop?" You mean her camera? XD

Leaf: Thank you! One thing I've noticed about my style is that it tends to change depending on the gender of the fur I'm drawing. o.O With males, as you can see in my avatar, I lean toward a more western style when it comes to drawing heads/faces. But with females, it seems, I go for more of an anime style... I'm not really sure why... Maybe because the anime style is cuter, and therefore better suited to female characters?

Byracka: *is pushed* I shall accept your challenge! Expect more backgrounds in future drawings! :)

Thrasher: I tried to make it as faithful/accurate a rendition of Maine as I possibly could, hehe. Hence the extreme levels of kawaii-ness. :3

And if you're worried about the time it'll take to get better, just think about it this way: that time is gonna pass by anyway, regardless of what you do with it. Why not use it on something creative?

Just a fun little sketch using materials I had available (inspired by something Squeedge did), that may or may not actually have some kind of deeper meaning. I'm honestly still figuring that out...

I CAN Draw but i'm not motivated enough lol.
I know in time I can get better (and I had 2 years LoL) but I refuse to draw. Haha.

Oddly enough, both of them started out as completely random sketches, intended only for practice at first. I guess I oughtta practice more often! XD

Post by: Nobi on August 04, 2013, 06:26:02 AM: Weapons are always fun to draw. :) A lot of my early drawings (besides stick figures) were weapons, and even today I find myself getting a little carried away from time to time when drawing a character's weapons when I should be focusing on the character themselves! XD

A drawing competition with a due date...? Sorry, Nix; not really my style. For one thing, art—for me—is never about competition. Also, while I may be able to churn out a six-page essay two hours before it's due and still get a reasonable grade on it, I can't draw well under any sort of pressure.

If you wanna draw your own fursona and show it to me, I'd be fine with giving you my opinion and constructive criticism. But if we were to each draw one and have people vote on which one is "better," it just wouldn't sit right with me, regardless of who "wins."

This particular image was put on Maine's and my own list of things to draw after a particular conversation we had which involved the most epic pawbump of all time. As you can see, my interpretation was pretty heavily inspired by Dragon Ball Z. xD

This first one is another self portrait. Inspiration, it seems most often strikes me when I don't have my sketchbook on me. So I was forced to just use regular old notebook paper:

This also marks a radical shift in my drawing style. Where I'd previously tried to achieve a more realistic style, and in some cases an anime/manga-esque style (usually when drawing females), I've found that the more cartoony style you see here comes a bit more naturally to me. So expect to see more of this in the future!

Next up is a piece I've been working on for a while. I put a lot of time and effort into this one, and I'm quite proud of the result! The subject is one I've drawn before, and I had just as much fun drawing her this time as I have in the past. ^_^

I'm a fan of both cyberpunk fiction and fantasy, so I wanted to combine them in this piece. So this is my interpretation of Maine as a cyberpunk mage! :D

Heh, thanks Tim. :) But my avi was done entirely by Maine, so she deserves all the credit for that. ^_^

But, seeing as how I created a new D&D character yesterday, I very quickly him out on the back of his character sheet. His name is Kanzhou, and he's a burlap plush construct who happens to be one heck of a gunslinger! ;)
