Title: Furry Comics and Literature
Post by: Kalylia on April 25, 2012, 04:57:50 AM
So, I couldn't find a topic for this and I /really/ hope I'm putting this in the right place...

I know there's awesome furry comics and literature out there, but as I'm still really new to the community and everything, I don't know many of them. So I thought it would be really awesome if we could all share our favorites, make recommendations, etc. (I put this thread here so we don't end up with a bunch of recommendations for pure smut.)

I discovered a comic called "Original Life" (http://jaynaylor.com/originallife/) today and read through the entire thing. I really like this one. It's a really nice look at family drama through furry eyes. I've really enjoyed the artwork, too.

I'm really looking forward to seeing your recommendations! (Especially as far as literature is concerned, honestly. I need an excuse to read more.)

"Freefall" is good, and a really interesting art style on the wolf, made anthro very simple, yet appealing- guess that's why I like it the most :P

Indeed it is. I have a good three that are very much worth it, as well.

My Life With Fel

Slightly Damned

Anthronauts

I watch all three of those, alongside Twokinds.

Blacksad is my favourite comic. It's really surreal in the sense that it's actually..a really believeable world.

It's about a antrho cat named Blacksad who is a detective and goes through murders from mobs, racism, rape, etc. I know it sounds cliche but the writing and the art is amazing.

For webcomics you could also look up Fur-Piled, Swords and Sausages, Housepets, Curtailed, and Little Tales ;3

As for literature you could check out the book Sight and its sequel Shade, also the Firekeeper series was pretty good. Finally you could find a translation of "The Romance of Reynard the Fox" I haven't finished that one yet but it is pretty interesting. ^w^

I used to read Extinctioners when it was published regularly, but I lost track of it, and it also just started being a bit too much of a rip-off of X-men in some places.

In terms of Web Comics, DSV Nautica is pretty good, but again suffers from a lack of regular updates.

I found Concession to be a very interesting comic. It lasted a couple of years and is now over. The first pages did not have very good art however over the years, the style was improved. The artist now makes other comics too. Concession can be found here http://concessioncomic.com/index.php?pid=20060701 (http://concessioncomic.com/index.php?pid=20060701) while the artist's other comics, such as Ballerina Mafia and the Order of the Black Dog, can be found here http://www.ballerinamafia.net/index.php?pid=20100906 (http://www.ballerinamafia.net/index.php?pid=20100906) and here http://www.orderoftheblackdog.com/archives.php (http://www.orderoftheblackdog.com/archives.php) I hope you enjoy them as much as I did.

I have not extensively explored the world of strictly furry literature, but I have to recommend the adventures of Captain Furry. It's somewhat flawed; the main character's faults aren't really treated as such, and if you hate inflation/weight gain, then you definitely won't like this, but nevertheless, it is a very heartfelt story, even outside its genre.

It's basically about a frumpy but tidy Lion trying to survive life with his sloppy canine roommate. I read it just before I graduated. You can find it on Captain Furry's furaffinity page, although you need an account to read it.
