Title: Vine's Drawing Hell
Post by: Vine Tabris on October 09, 2011, 02:08:40 PM
-[DeviantArt] (http://valexi.deviantart.com/)[FurAffinity] (http://www.furaffinity.net/user/valexi/)[Nabyn] (http://valexi.nabyn.com/)-

Ehh, as some of you may know, I'm Vine, and I do art things sometimes. I'm 21, I teach art to middle school kids at a non-profit after-school organization that gives free art classes to underprivileged kids, I'm a south paw, and I've been drawing for as long as I've been able to hold a pencil.
So, here's my art thread. I was told it was okay for me to post my non-furry stuff as well, so I'll be posting whatever works I feel like sharing.
Want to know anything else, just ask.
Despite my cold appearance I'm actually pretty nice.

Latest drawing:

A commission work for Gaia (huur duurr). A little racy, but I hope it doesn't go over the PG-13 rule.
It was quite fun to do since I'm rather fond of things with horns, but it wasn't until after the drawing was done that I noticed I gave her a little bit of a man-jaw. But the client didn't complain, so I guess it was okay.

Thanks guys.
 ^_^
Actually on Gaia my prices aren't too bad, it's "name your own price," but people are usually pretty nice about it and pay a decent amount.
I hope to start doing more real money commissions soon, just need to set things up.

More than that in some cases! Vine you just need a paypal, you don't even have to link a bank account to it unless you're going to be using it for ebay or other online retailers that accept that form of payment, but it's not all that difficult and you could start making some bank! :D

100s = 600 or even 700 dollars in my head. More than that and it's "nearly 1k".

Oh gosh, you guys are just too nice. Nah, when I start taking commissions I don't think I'll charge all that much; at least not to begin with. If I get lucky enough to have demand rise then I'll adjust the price appropriately.
And of course friends get discounts.
 ;)
I already have a Paypal account, so I just need to set up a Tumblr or something, get prices set, organize all my info, and make it all look nice.
But I have to do all this while still doing work and college, so I'm a bit slow on gettin' that stuff set up.

Take this for instance, these are EXTREMELY low prices compared to the quality. I say the Digital Flats (I have one myself from this artist) is worth at least 40 compared to what other "equal" artists charge.

Well, I'll sort my prices once I get everything else in order. I do know there's a lot of competition though, so that's why I would want to start low. When I make a price guide should I just list the prices of a full-body drawing? When I do commissions on Gaia I'm used to charging by headshot, midshot or fullbody....

Oh please don't ; w ;
I don't think I'm all that great myself, and I quite like your drawings.

Why are you so amazing :O
Eheh, my major in college is art, and I participated in an after-school art program from middle school through high school (which I now work and teach at), so I've taken quite a few classes. But personally I think I'm far from amazing. Always room to improve, yeah?

Wow. That's amazing work there, Vine.
Thanks a bunch  ^_^

Here's a WIP I'm currently working on:

Figured I should draw a headshot of my demon-sona that doesn't involve killing small animals, plus needed to fix a few things for reference.
Still need to ink then color it.
Oh, and I have terrible handwriting because I'm left handed, so yeah.

The price charts can be anything. I've seen prices based on hours, based on size, headshots, waist and full, colour, shadowing... You do whatever you feel is fair. Like for instance:

Sketch
Head - 5
Waist - 8
Full - 10

Lineart
Head - 10
Waist - 14
Full - 18

Flat:
Head - 15
Waist - 25
Full - 30

These are just prices I made up to show the increase. Or you can have a table where the commissioner is able to put together things on their own. Like a sketch with cell shadowing would be sketch price + cell shading price.

Neat-o, then yeah, I'll probably be organizing them by headshot/midshot/fullbody since that's what I'm used to going by.

Derp derp, random study.
I'm pretty bad at drawing noses, so I decided to practice.
God damnit, why must noses not make sense?

....I'll update with something more interesting later.

Reminds me when I had Viral Divinity draw me my demon. I had extremely specific details about how his nose was supposed to look like and she got it spot on, first try without even paying any attention to what I had written. I commented and praised her talent and she scoffed and said "I love them honkers."

These are good. Especially the one on the top left with eyebrows, that one is my favourite.

Maybe I could show you my demon if you need noses to practice on? It has a lot of shape to it.

Ahh I think I remember that one.
Yeah sure, I could always use more nose subjects~

Faricho has a Roman nose with a deep crease below the eyebrows and a flattened point on the ridge. Nostrils are angled down and the wings are rather pointy. The eyebrows are also rather meaty and prominent, making the nose a strong feature.

I'm not asking for free art or something, just trying to inspire you to improve something you're working on.  0:)

*is currently drooling*
Remind me to get money when you start commissions xD
I would love to see how my hellhound (Nex) or my Ferai (Skree) would look
