ARE YOU EXCITED? I'm excited. Know why? Because you're now looking at the thing Tweak and I have had in the works for well over a month now! WOOOOOOOO!
Although the new look of the forum is the first thing you'll notice, MANY new awesome features have been added. Want the list? HERE'S THE LIST.
- MAJOR graphical and technical redesign
- Four brand new forum themes to choose from (can be changed via Profile>Look and Layout Preferences)
- Helpdesk to manage forum bugs, support inquiries, and suggestions/feature requests
- New percentage-based warning system that will function differently (and hopefully more efficiently) than before
- "Steam", "Fur Affinity", and "DeviantArt" linking icons integrated into profile
- "Currently" status profile field (as a replacement of the previous "Mood" option)
- "Reference" profile field for linking to a reference image for your fursona
- Redirect boards, for board icons linking to other pages
- "Species" is now a searchable option in the memberlist, and is displayed and sortable in the memberlist
- Three new emoticon expressions: @.@ , <.< , and D:
- Three new emoticon species - tigers, leopards, and snow leopards: (http://www.thefurryforum.com/forums/Smileys/Tiger/smiley.gif) (http://www.thefurryforum.com/forums/Smileys/Leopard/smiley.gif) (http://www.thefurryforum.com/forums/Smileys/SnowLeopard/smiley.gif)
- Extra protection put into place to prevent spammers
- New personal messaging options, allowing you to view PMs all at once, one at a time, or as a conversation
- Customizable filters now available for PMs, so PMs can be automatically sorted into categories
- YouTube videos will automatically be embedded into posts, simply by pasting in the YouTube URL
- Topics are now sortable by the date the thread was started
- New option to ignore particular boards; the boards will still exist and be viewable, but you will not be notified of new posts in that board
- New Arcade options available, as well as an Arena where you can compete with other forum members at your favorite games
- Much more!

Of course, as many of these features are brand spanking new and freshly released, there WILL be some bugs to work out. If you find something that doesn't work or seems out of place, do not hesitate to tell us! the change of placement of some of the forum area, letter color change and...
i dont like it. i REALY enjoyed the simplicity it had. while the backround is nice...i really dont like the change.
can the old look be added to the list of choosable layouts??

Quite like it. A couple of things I'm not too keen about, being the scrolling seeming a bit off with the background being static, but that's just something I'll get used to. And maybe something that was already there I realised because of the change. :p That, and the YouTube links being automatically embedded - is there some way to stop that happening for me and only me (As in, the person browsing and only that person) or does the forum add the code to the video to actually embed it?

At the moment, I don't think those kind of options are available.

I'll be honest; I saw the "maintenance underway" and was like, "nuu!" But when I got back and saw the modifications done to the website, even though the original red does look pink (switched it to blue), and my new reaction was: "Wow... This is pretty sweet!" But I admit I was confused when I saw the Help Desk option; I thought I had been promoted or something, haha.
But truly, brilliant job on the upgrade you two! It's great!

Good question! I'm going to be writing out a thorough explanation shortly once I get around to it.
Short explanation is: 0% = no warnings, 100% = baaad. :P Every time you (in general, not meaning you specifically) break the forum rules, your percentage goes up. How much it goes up depends on the severity of your rule breakage. At certain points down the line, your percentage will determine whether you are being Watched (same as what used to be called "Warned"), Moderated, or Muted. Each day you go without breaking any rules, your percentage will go back down a little bit until it's back to 0%.

Amazing to see how far the forum has come over the 3 years or so I've been a member. Of course, if I was around more often, each improvement wouldn't be so sudden or drastic but...heh heh, that's my fault.
I have to say that you've really outdone yourself with all these new changes as of late and this big overhaul is pretty impressive. The revamp of the warning system is one that I think will help make a difference (the ability to see what you've possibly accidentally done wrong can be helpful). New design is looking good although I must admit that at least on my monitor the red theme is a tad pinkish and blue seems to be leaning more purple than blue. That could just be me though and I have to say that regardless, it's looking good and pretty polished. Thanks for all the hard work!

I want to thank everyone for the comments. Both myself and Zephyr have been working on plans for this for over a year, the actual creation took 3-4 months.

Is it possible to revert to the old layout because this is rubbish?

This layout isn't that different to the old one though. Yes, it's changed slightly but everything is practically in the same place - or a more intuitive place.
The layout had to change as it did due to the changes made to the backend, it's a complete recode, I've had to adapt a lot to fit with it.

By the way - in case some of you were wondering where the old left-side menus went (like when viewing your Profile), you can change the view by clicking on the expand arrow on the upper right.

Due to response about the themes, I've slightly edited the Red theme so that it is a more vivid red rather than slightly pinkish. Just refresh to see the changes.
If this bothers you because you like pink - don't worry. We have plans for you. ;)

I think it's better to show the blue theme before you log in rather than the really noticible in the library red theme, just sayin.
