Title: Parents, Money, and College
Post by: Fly Boy on August 09, 2011, 02:18:17 AM
This is more of a positive and advice seeking thread as well.

Beginning with the positive:

I learned a few minutes ago that I am now a "CANDIDATE" for the United States Air Force Academy, one of the most selective schools in the country, now all I have to do Is file paperwork, go to an interview, take a Physical test. But it'll all be worth it if I get accepted there. :D

Advice seeking:

My parents have never been too thrilled about my choice of going into the military, even to pursue my dream of becoming a fighter pilot. So they have asked me to find Civilian schools that have good, solid engineering courses and is somewhat affordable. If the College is in Florida, even better because I get a full ride anywhere in Florida thanks to my grades and the people who play the lottery to pay for it  XD. But ya, anywhere in the US, and a good solid engineering program. I don't want to screw this up and neither do my parents so I'm asking EVERYONE I KNOW.

Just thought I's share that little tidbit with you guys, any advice would be greatly appreciated.  :)

What kind of engineering are you looking into?

My mate graduated in Mechanical at UNF, and although it was decent, he's said if he could do it again he'd probably go for UF or UCF instead. UNF's Civil and Electrical programs were a bit more organized than the Mechanical. Georgia Tech is also quite nice, if you have the ability to go out of state.

I graduated from UCF, and although I don't know much of anything about the engineering program, I really liked the school itself.

Aeronautical engineering specifically, but Embry-Riddle would be too expensive for bright futures alone. I was thinking about UF because of a dual Mechanical/Aerospace course, but that Campus is HUGE!! I've been looking for the smaller schools that aren't as overwelming

Pfft. UCF is the largest university in Florida, and one of the largest in the entire country. I like smaller classes, but I did just fine anyway. XP

I would say for you to go to the Airforce Academy. Follow your dreams dude. I know your parents are probably just concerned for you and your well being. But I think you should live to do what you want to do. And that way you won't live with any regrets! :P

I'm more or less helping them feel secure by now. Life is just a show, the more things you do, the more entertaining it is.  :)
