Title: Avian suits
Post by: pheonixrebirth on March 05, 2010, 08:30:52 PM
Im thinking bout making a costume for my Fursona, that of a Phoenix. i have an idea, but i'd like opinions on it.

Fake leather base, with feathers threaded into it with needles. Many needles. threading them into the core allowing it to not poke me, and keep the feathers in place. Any better ideas?

it sounds liek it would come out awesome if you do it right. id love to see this! keep us posted on what you are going to do. sounds like the suit may be a little warm, what about a base other than faux leather? just a sugestion. sounds like its going to be sweet either way  ^_^

Faux leather is a lot like normal leather jackets, but much lighter both in weight and temp. it's a very versatiel material. :D :P

I would use lots of leaf shaped pieces of cloth cut from shimmery colors.

There are quite a few movies where someone looks like a bird (such as fairytales etc) I would look at those first, because real feathers would be very hot, fall out a lot and be hard to clean.

Not to forget that feather do eventually rot away, leaving you with only the horn base sewn to the leather.
